We're just over a week away until the Friday night curtain raiser.

I fancy Ipswich as (maybe not so) desk horses this season. West ham are going to take some beating I think.

P'boro will more than likely go down I think. Hard to say who with as I think Brighton and Southampton will be ok. I fancy Watford, Barnsley and Doncaster to be amongst the strugglers.

Bring on the new season!

Can see Watford doing well for some reason.

Going to be a huge season for most, for us certainly.

Just wondered how many games we've got on Sky, on the Cardiff away one?

West Ham will walk it imo. After them it's up for grabs. We could finish anywhere from 2nd to 10th imo and we're one of 8 or 9 clubs that could go up. You never know with this league.

I don't think West Ham will walk it by any stretch of the imagination they will be a competitive outfit for the title but so will we as well

Ipswich have stacked up nicely with players, I can see them finishing inside the playoff places.

Same goes for Cardiff, Hull and Middlesbrough, the latter have shown they needed time to gel and didn't do too badly in the second half of last season.

I don't think Reading will make the cut to the playoffs this season (7th to 11th finish).

West Ham are my favourites to go up automatically, Brighton will do well back in the Championship (around 8th to 10th place).

Birmingham won't be the same after all this administration talk, whether it happens or not. They will have to sell some of their better players regardless.

Peterborough, Doncaster, Watford and Crystal Palace fighting against relegation.

And Coventry and Derby will struggle again (lower half finish).

Predicted top six:

West Ham

Nottingham Forest

--------

Southampton (my dark horse pick)

Leicester

Reading

Cardiff

Bottom three:

Doncaster

Coventry

Peterborough

This is clearly going to look horrific at the end of the season when none of these materialise, but such is the nature of this division. I honestly think Southampton will be big contenders when the time comes - they already have a squad which looks sharp on paper, specifically some excellent players in the likes of Lallana, Chamberlain and Lambert.

Brighton should do well for themselves and would be a useful bet for a strong finish, but I think Peterborough are in for another struggle unless they turn around their defensive issues very quickly. Cardiff may have lost some players but they seem to have replaced them adequately. They'll be thereabouts when the time comes, just like Reading. I hated putting us in the frame, but I don't see why we shouldn't be challenging with this team. We just need a top drawer forward to finish it off.

Hate to use the cliche 'strongest season yet' but it looks that way. Very competitive and you can see why it's popularity grows across the word.

Never one for predicting until the day before. However, I have grouped up the clubs as follows.

Champs - West Ham

A.Promotion/Play-Offs - M'boro, Hull, Cardiff, Leicester, Forest, Burnley

Top Ten - Brum C, Blackpool, Ipswich, Brighton, Donny

M/Table - Leeds, Derby, Soton, Reading, Pompey, Millwall

L M/Table - Brizzle C & Barnsley & Palace

Relegation - Watford, Coventry & P'boro

All subject to change. Question marks on Ipswich on doing better and Brizzle relegation.

West Ham have a team full of strength for this level with no real departures so far. You have the likes of Collison and Noble who will stay and be quality at this level. Only question could be back four.

Boro had a cracking end to the season playing footy the right way. Rhys Williams will be one of the stand-out's this season and Marvin Emnes will finally come to the party.

Hull have built a decent squad, they will be very tough to beat if funcitional. Cardiff I think made some very canny signings bit like us if fits you can look at 2nd. Forest will have a crap start to the season before kicking into gear if they had a board will to let McLaren the transfer reins, they be up there. Burnley another side I say which have built well.

Brum and Blackpool will suffer hangovers. Ipswich I have a question mark against their back four. Brighton probably to keep their confidence and have signed well from the lower divisions. Donny suffered last year because of an injury crisis - they have a striker full of goals and top midfield if fit.

Leeds another hangover. Derby are building, they are a couple blocks short of a playoff bid. Southampton similar to Derby, resting on their laurels a bit and need some steel at the back for me. Reading could be caught out - long-ball merchants now without a decent ball four but they have a very good manager and work ethic. Pompey - mid-table personified now, still short of a squad. Millwall haven't replaced their departures, could be tough.....their history of this division is a couple of seasons and then everyone losses their fear factor against them.

Brizzle looked a bit of a mess at times last season and have lost big time with no Caulker, their defence could be in for some pastings. Barnsley, good manager, good set of players but it maybe a bit beyond them, though I could see them as the next Burnley. Palace normally a good start ensures staying up...failure to do so this season equals the drop.

Watford suffering big-time finanicially - same applies to Cov. P'boro said they were going to get experienced Championship players this term and failed. Their squad is probably worse than it was then.

This league gets tougher and tougher every year. Anyone is capable of beating anyone on their day, look at Scunny oing QPR last season, thats single results cost me a couple of grand! lol. (EDIT: i didnt bet a couple of grand, i would have won it, just needed that result to come off).

Id have to say its going to be between West Ham, Ipswich, Cardiff (theyve made some impressivel signings i wasnt aware of), Us (obviously) and Brum still have a tidy team and made a couple of decent signings.

I'll be looking out for Brighton to be a surprise package and turn a few heads.

I, like a few others it seems, felt Middlesboro might do ok this year, finished the season ok with some decent young players and a decent Championship manager, now I'm not so sure though.

I expect Cardiff and Forest to still be up there, Birmingham will still be tough to beat, Blackpool could go either way but I reckon they'll be a decent side. west ham clear faves but I think it depends how they start, they start well and they'll run away with it in my opinion. Unsure about Reading, depends whether they keep Long.

Ipswich have made some decent signings but defence doesn't look very strong to me. I think Southampton are most likely out of the promoted sides.

Think Doncasters time may be up, I like them but no real signs of progression and pressure on Billy Sharp. Barnsley and Coventry will flirt with relegation but will probably be ok. One suprise team usually struggles, maybe Derby?

Posted

West Ham, Birmingham, us, Forest should all be up there.

Southampton, Hull, Millwall and Burnley shouln't be far off.

I think Peterborough will struggle along with Doncaster.

Posted

I can see teams such as Barnsley, Coventry, Watford, Peterborough and Doncaster looking at relegation. I think Southampton and Brighton will be ok, and Southampton might even have a dip at the play offs because they have a pretty strong squad.

West Ham and Birmingham will be looking at promotion, but, Birmingham look like they might be loosing essential players like Dann and Foster in addition to the already departed Roger Johnson.

Can see Middlesbrough doing well.

Posted

Burnley and Hull will do well, without being spoken about much.

Don't think Brighton will do as well as many are speculating, but should be safely in mid table. Southampton will be a danger.

Is this a new phrase or are you talking about a different sport? :P

Think Cardiff will suffer quite a bit this season. I reckon around 12th or 13th come April 28th. Lost so many key players and staff. Take time to rebuild.

Ipswich and Southampton will be in play-offs. There's always one team that does well from promotion (Norwich, Leeds, ourselves etc). I reckon Southampton will be that team.

Cov, Peterborough and Barnsley to go down.

Us and West Ham top. Birmingham around 10th. Forest in play-offs again (lose again too :P)

Anyone knows where can we watch the football games outside? We usually can't afford the ticket :( There so many sports bar nowadays. But which is the great Sports Bar experience? Plus a great drinks offer. Suggestion. By the way were here in Manchester.. :)

At the same time that we are constantly strengthening our squad, other Championship teams seem to be weakening.

Birmingham, for example, have sold some of their better players (Johnson, Foster and others), so have Burnley (Eagles, Tyrone Mears)... Cov have lost King...

As far as I can see, only West Ham and City have improved their squads, in any obvous way anyway.

IF we gel quickly as a team, we surely must have a great shout at one of the top two positions? Other than West Ham I can't see any other obvious rivals this season, in terms of radically improved squads. Am I wrong on this or have some of the other Champ teams got much paper, on paper anyway?
