Pearson interview

How that whole interview came across, to me, was as 'payback time'

Nigel verbally (and non verbally) gave the journo both barrels last night. So he got it back today.

That's how I saw it.

What's good for the goose... You give it, you take it.

Whether you agree that this should happen or not, is down to individual opinion.

But to me, that's what that looked like today.

I don't think Murphy was sticking up for Baker, he was using last nights incident with Baker as a way to get at Nigel with his questions.

But you're right in the whole if you dish it out, you've got to take it sense. Though Murphy's delivery seemed far more honest and true to the point than when Miliband talks directly to a camera, I think Murphy was just fishing for reactions anyway he could.

Both

Some journalists think it's all about them... maybe it's a BBC thing.

This

PM has been to a press conference about LCFC and turned it into a press conference about him. Like a poor referee that turns a game into one where you talk about the referee. Well done Pat Murphy, you have turned a press conference into something about the reporter. Maybe you will sell more books when you retire

Bullying

Bullying is the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or aggressively dominate others. The behavior is often repeated and habitual. One essential prerequisite is the perception, by the bully or by others, of an imbalance of social or physical power. Behaviors used to assert such domination can include verbal harassment or threat, physical assault or coercion, and such acts may be directed repeatedly towards particular targets.

A person who uses strength or influence to harm or intimidate those who are weaker:

Think he meets the criteria

It's a bit of an ambiguous definition, by that a person who tries to influence a weaker person is a bully.

Well that sums up almost everyone, so who gives a fùck if he is.

Do you seriously think the team would play their hearts out for him if he were a bully?

Talk sense.

Well done for having words with Murphy too.

Pat would never care about anything I thought but I felt it was worth saying what I felt anyway.

Great to have your insight in scenarios like this, sort of puts all the extreme opinions (one way or the other) in perspective.

It's just an opinion though; I'll criticise and praise whenever I see fit. I'm not a knee-jerk forum extremist. Pearson deserves criticism IMHO for team selections and tactics but equally praise for the good stuff. I just try to be fair and balanced. (And thanks  :D )

You can do that without losing control. Is my point.

It looks weak, not strong.

Say that again and I'll punch your fkn lights out Col  :P

Seriously mate I think far too much is being made of this again.

Managers are wheeled out straight after games when emotions are very high and surely outbursts are only to be expected due to the pressure and intensity of all things Premier League.

NPs been man enough to publically apologise, let's move on!

I can't see this having a negative impact on us.

It's just a chance for Pearson haters to stick the boot in.

Sorry Col, I am with you on most things, but you are wrong on this. The Presser today was supposed to be a pre-match about the Newcastle game. Pearson started out by apologising politely, appropriately and in public to the reporter (having already done it in private) and the reporter accepted the apology. What Murphy did was stupid, distracting and, frankly, insulting. He said Pearson is paranoid, in need of anger management, a bully, and makes a fool of himself at press conferences. That has fvck-all to do with the game against Newcastle - whose manager, incidentally, publicly supported Pearson - and I wonder if he would have had the guts to say the same things to Alex Ferguson.

I used to like Pat Murphy, but he has gone down in my estimation. Mind you, I believe he is a Villa supporter, so maybe he is letting the fact that they are more likely to go down than we are get to him. Pr!ck.

That's actually what I'm saying mate or have I misunderstood you?

The reporter SET OUT with an agenda I think?

He seemed to see it as payback time.

I can't be bothered to read 12 pages. I assume this has been posted but just in case.

I couldn't give a toss about these press conferences and Pearsons responses. But it's funny how tribal football fans can still be at times - Our manager = right, journalists = wrong, other clubs' managers who behave in a similar way = arrogant twats.

Whilst I like Pearson, perhaps am looking through blue tinted glasses and do agree with what Pearson has said I compleatly agree with what you say, if Dyche had said something like what Pearson did last night people on here would be slagging him off and taking the piss.

I do find the moral high ground taken by some "journalists" to be pretty hypocritical. The same people writing for papers that have headlines such as "the wally with the brolly", "prat in the hat", "Turnip Taylor" and headlines taking the p' out of someone's speech impediment, are suddenly offended and labelling him a bully for comparing someone to an ostrich.

A chance for Pearson lovers to defend him.

All jokes aside, I'm not a Pearson fan, and as much as it's odd behaviour, and he's now said sorry, it's something or nothing.

What I will say is, his behaviour has been bad this year, and for me goes to far, and strange with comments like yesterday, can he handle being a top flight manager.

Being a top flight manager isn't just about the football, its handling the pressure, and media, and sorry to say, Pearson is making a big target of himself with the media, who today have filled the news, with his odd behaviour, so when stories dry up, they will try and create them, and Pearson is a reporters dream.

Swear I've skipped about 10 pages and your still the centre of attention! What did you do?! Haha...

As for people making a huge deal out of this, like it's going to affect our players and essentially lead to our downfall needs to burn their house down whilst in it.

The lads will be probably having a laugh with Nigel about it and with the following interview with Pat Murphy had just made Pearson look the bigger man.

A team he cares about, is passion about and is working his bollox of to save just lost their first game this month. Yes, we played well but 3 points would have been huge for him. Of course he's not going to be in the best of moods.

If we lose against Newcastle, it has nothing to do with this moment so all the fans 'preparing their post for that moment' just fvck off and die!

Get behind the manager, he is a great manager and is a key reason why we are where we are - IN THE PREMIERSHIP NOT LEAGUE ONE!

Kasper on the incident and Pesrson

"I think a lot of us found it quite funny," said the City goalkeeper, who was speaking at the launch of his new Precision Goalkeeping glove range, Schmeichology 5. "It is not something we take a great deal of notice of.

"Anyone who has played under Nigel Pearson, knows what kind of guy he is. He will take the hits if that is what is necessary for the greater good. That is what you need in a manager, someone who is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure his players are ready to perform."

Pearson claimed today that he is a completely different person on the training ground that he is with the press and Schmeichel was quick to confirm that is definitely the case.

"He is an immensely respected guy in the club," he said. "He is the boss but he has got a very endearing side to him. A very calm side and he is a very, very good man-manager.

"He knows when someone might need a kick up the backside and also knows when someone might need an arm around the shoulder. He is very good at doing both. You need that in a manager, someone who can measure the temperature. He is exceptionally good at knowing what players need and when they need it.

"If you look at any performance, all the players are playing out of their skin trying to do whatever they can to stay in the league. If we weren't behind the manager, then perhaps we wouldn't have had the chance to stay in the league like we do now"

I don't really understand this, surely being a football manager is all about the football? There are many polite managers who never get anywhere.
