The space we give attackers

Lets face it, Newcastle had some guilt edge chances today. Any other prem side and they would have taken them. Im baffled by the amount of space the opposition sides are getting in and around our box. Its been happening a lot this season. If we give Southampton this amount of space im sorry i cannot see us winning.

Yer but if they score 2... We'll get 3!!!

It's the Premier League - teams are going to create chances. I'm more interested in how many we created, which was a lot, lot more.

I agree, it wasn't that we were great today more that they were awful. We score 3 goals from set pieces today, when was the last time that happened?

It's normal with 3 centre backs, especially not the quickest ones to defend deep. Part of the formation. With Cisco out they didn't have much of a threat up top. The main danger if they were playing well how they set up should come from their wide players and Crosses in from them. It worked.

Am i talking about chances? Its the space we are giving players. You wouldn't find a pulis side giving the opposition that amount of space.

Space in non dangerous areas! I don't remember Newcastle having real space in a goal scoring opportunity once today.

Talking about Pulis, his team gave us plenty of space in their box at least three times a couple of week ago.

At 2-0 up we just played professionally and closed out the game. Natural thing to do at our end of the table.

Let's give the team the credit they deserve today and stop trying to find fault - obviously the negative posters are all brilliant at their jobs.

You wouldn't see them scoring for fun either. Not sure what the point of this thread is, it's not even accurate, Kasper only stretched once, and that was only because he was bored and wanted something to do, knowing the ball was 2 foot wide.

Other than against us... When we scored three... Again.

Sometimes the only thing you can do is shake your head

No doubt if we lose you'll be back to slagging all and sundry off again ?

I don't remember any gilt edged chances Riviere had one chance that he fluffed, other than that they were just shooting from distance or putting hopeful balls into the box which rarely troubled us.

I don't see how anyone can criticise our defending today.

Maybe I'm weird but when you mentioned Newcastle's 'gilt-edged chances' I thought you were referring to the chances they had.

Your posts on here are about as good as your namesakes premier league goal return

Sunderland surprised Southampton, sadly, and this will be a spur them on, so we really need to do the same next week.

I doubt it will be so easy for us, as it was today.

We put bodies behind the ball, if they want to shoot from 30 yards out then that's fine by me - they're unlikely to A) get it through Was/Wes/Huth/Cambiasso's foot, B) hit the target from that range, and C) beat Kasper from that range even with a deflection.

We can afford to let teams play it around our box so freely as long as they don't find the space in between, they only did a couple of times and they didn't punish us.

I can't agree with OP. Chelsea aside, we've hardly given anything away recently, we don't give any players space in any part of the field. Having said that, ball retention was average in the 1st half. Thankfully we got away with it as Newcastle did fvck all on the ball and gifted us two goals.

Eh???.They had a couple of shots at best.

How many chances did we have...had you left by the time Vardy had that open header!!?
