What's Going on?

After Sven there was a 3 week gap before NP. People said the club was in disarray. Wrong, they didn't rush and made quite a good appointment. This has only been 7 days so far. If it takes another 2 weeks, the new manager will still be in place well before the start of the season.

But most of the managers groundwork is done during pre-season. Missing out on a manager now is potentially a lot more detrimental than in the middle of the season when the only focus in on managing the players for the matches.

It wasn't wrong at all, the club was in dissaray. We had amassed a 90 billion debt, had a missive ly unbalanced squad, just lost 3-0 at home to Millwall, were in the lower half off the championship and had a load of players on huge money who couldn't be bothered to make any effort for us.

We appointed a man who was capable of sorting that all out but the reason getting that man took three weeks to get though was because we spent that time trying to convince Martin O' Neill to come back first and then sounding out whether Harry Redknapp was available, fortunately neither of them wanted the position.

So forgive me if I'm not just going to sit here convincing myself everything looks fantastic as the top men are on it.

It's incredible given how privately the owners go about their business, some people know exactly who they approached and when. Come on mate, if you knew their day to day activities back then surely you still know them now... Who have we approached? Whose on the list? What did top have for breakfast? Share the knowledge!

I have a slight feeling it'll be announced one evening (like it was before, when Pearson came back, without any clue that he was returning!).

I'll say either tomorrow or Thursday.

When it happened last week I was disappointed obviously, but fairly sure that if we made a quick appointment and kept the backroom staff intact we could carry on without much impact on the forthcoming season.

The longer it drags on for though the more damage is caused. Considering the club bleated on about wanting to get business done early they've completely shot themselves in the foot in terms of transfers. Regardless of who's selecting our targets, players won't be rushing here when its still a possibility that Lennon or Cotteril could be coaching them next term.

Can people stop putting up betting odds please? The favourite has changed about 5 fvcking times for gods sake, it obviously has absolurely no bearing whatsoever on what's happening and neither do the reports based on the fvcking odds, could we at least wait until a reliable source pops up with something useful?

That would be absolutely shocking if that were the case, we're over a week now from the time we sacked Mr Pearson.

I think the more likely scenario is they wanted Hiddink (it makes too much sense given he resigned two days before Pearson was sacked and he is so highly respected in Asian circles of football) but given he appears to not want a manager's job but to be paid to sit watching us in the stand they now have little clue who to fall back on and are now having to think over who instead they want.

True. I suppose it could also be possible that we are still in talks with hiddink, seeing as since the story broke alleging we'd made an approach there has been silence. What about hiddink with Shakespeare? Could that be a possibility?

Seriously, the owners better be out there grafting a 15 hour shift every day to try and sort a deal / get the right man in because whether they like to talk about what they get upto or not, in this day and age of tech and journalism somebody somewhere would have clicked onto something if anything of any interest, even just movement from the owners, anything at all was going on. I genuinely think they may have fooked it.

The owners have left.  No goodbye, they just walked out.  We'll never see them again, there will be no new manager appointed.

Looking at things a bit more positively...

Ideally there would be some sort of succession planning which means that the owners/Rudkin/Neville would have had a plan in case Pearson left for any reason, even when they might have had no reason to sack him (e.g. left to join another club, serious illness etc).

It doesn't really seem like this is the case, although they might have had the likes of Hiddink and Lennon in mind and it's just taking a while to negotiate with Hiddink, with Lennon as the backup option.

Even then, you've got no guarantees that anyone you want would take the job unless you tap them up, which nobody would have wanted while Pearson was in charge.

The players were sacked on 17th June and Pearson left on 30th June but we signed Huth and Okazaki in between those dates. Huth was so important last season that you might consider we wanted him re-signed before Pearson was sacked and maybe they were trying to get Okazaki and potentially Cambiasso over the line as well before they sacked him. Seems a bit duplicitous but if we'd jeopardised Huth then people would be moaning about that.

The other thing to consider is that we could have appointed someone within three days and then something about a far more appealing candidate being interested could come out in the papers. It makes sense to wait a little to see whether anyone expresses an interest. This looks to be what has happened with Ranieri, whatever your opinion of him and regardless of whether we're actually interested in him.

And if you're going to take a few extra days to make such a huge decision as this, it makes sense to do it in the close season while the players are just coming back in for fitness training, especially when it seems like every other member of staff other than Pearson is still around to oversee things.

We're still not seeing anything in the papers about anyone being offered the job or turning it down so I don't think they're desperately working their way through a load of rejections. It genuinely seems like they're taking the time and hopefully will make a good appointment at the end of it.

That's the positive spin and I don't think any of it is too far-fetched.

Fingers remaining crossed.

I'll check back in in 4 weeks time then when we've signed no ****er else and Cotterill has taken the hot-seat after everyone else got bored of waiting and took other jobs/declared their boredom.

I'm thinking more about Esteban making his decision, existing publicly identified targets definitely stating that they're not coming to us and the more exciting managerial targets ruling themselves out.

Who's to say we haven't got a manager in place already,it could be that they don't want to unveil the manager to quickly else it would look bad.

Look bad or get him in, sign the right players, train with the boys and get to know everyone? Hardly a toss up is it.

It's all about timing, this forum would have erupted if the new manager was unveiled the day after Pearson got sacked,I'm sure we will here something this week
