Bagworthblue Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 If he wasn't a foxes legend would he even be on the radar? This whole thing just stinks of the board getting desperate to find a manager to appease the fans after their first name choice turned them down copy and paste of my earlier post as I can't be arsed to type it again - -i disagree and think we underestimate Rudkin he did brilliant at Leicester He did great at Celtic and decided to take a break as his wife was ill He did better than anyone much else has done in years at Villa and decided to leave after 4 years following a dispute with Lerner the 4 years before the average finish was 12th but that was because of one good season a few years before in 6th, the other seasons were circa 14th the 5 years since the average has been 14th and they've had decent players too - i.e Benteke He took Sunderland to their best finish in the Prem in his first season, was strugling in his 2nd season and got sacked before he had a chance to turn it around He has only ever once been sacked in a long career - unusual eh We have a squad full of players to match the type of football he plays He is a similar manager to Pearson in that he looks after his players, protects them and builds squads with great team spirit his appointment is likely to keep both fans, players and staff upbeat allowing us to go into the season on a high rather than a low after the Pearson sacking. he carries no baggage these days and hence a good chance he will keep the existing backroom staff, or even agree to as part of his contract meaning even less disruption. and finally - listen to players he has managed - they talk about how he would be able to get them to walk through fire if he asked. They can't explain what it is about him, just that he makes you feel like you are the best and makes you want to do everything you can to succeed. And I've had that from the horses mouth of one ex city player.

Bagworthblue Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Lots of excellent points there, its just a feeling I have, and still stand by my comment that MON over NP is no great improvement tbh I just wish we still had Pearson. failing that and looking around at who is available that wants to come here, I think firstly we need to choose someone who will keep us up and then if possible someone that can help us push up the league not many about - I think Rudkin feels that with Money, O'Neill can push us into the top 10 which is the target for this year. He has proven he can do that with 7 top 10 finishes, one 11th and one 13th it's in the past and time will tell but I think at least they are basing the decision on what he has done and could well be seen as a step up from Pearson - who knows, Perason may have had us topping the league in a few years (maybe not) - we will never know
gerrytaggart Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 If he does come back I think he will be extra motivated to not **** up his own legacy here.
Wymsey Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Walsh as defensive coach. Guppy as midfield coach. Trevor Benjamin as striking coach. Prefer the first 2!
Vindaloo FOX Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 you can tell MON is gutted that it did not work out for him at Sunderland, i think he will come here with a point to prove that he is not past it like some are saying. I am well looking forward to the opening game of the season. Leicester vs Sunderland, THE RETURN OF THE MESSIAH & THE KING POWER WILL BE BUZZING !!!

If MON is hired then he will have my full support.

Matt Posted 11 July 2015 Posted 11 July 2015 Given that they aren't qualified coaches I think it's more than a little unlikely. This is just nostalgia going to the head. I'm pretty sure there are. Muzzy and Elliot had something to do with Academy once upon a time i'm sure, meaning they have some coaching qualifications i'm sure. Guppy was with him at Sunderland and possibly with him at ROI. Lennon s obviously Bolton. Walshie, not sure, think he's probably the only one who hasn't. That said, no, they shouldn't come and coach with him.
l444ry Posted 11 July 2015 Posted 11 July 2015 Pearson got lucky last season and thank fook he did. Overall, he did well at Championship level but a lot of that was due to the Thai ownership and stability of the club. And to call O'Neill a sideways or backward step is frankly laughable!

Claridge Posted 11 July 2015 Posted 11 July 2015 Were we actually looking for an improvement on NP. Most on here would have loved Pearson being our manger starting this upcoming season. I'll take sideways right now if that's what it is. Oneil is a big step up from Pearson, cant help feeling Pearson was lucky at the end of the season with the fixtures and the fact that most of the team were in excellent form at the same time. Yes you could argue that was down to Pearson but then it must be true for the under achievement earlier.
BlueSi13 Posted 11 July 2015 Posted 11 July 2015 Love the guy but don't want him back. He's not the man he once was and without his old backroom team, he hasn't been able to replicate his successes elsewhere either. 'Never go back' is the perfect cliche for this scenario. His reputation at this club is cemented forever, why risk it with a tricky second spell?

Seriously? After all Pearson did for this club over both spells at this football club, some people are still calling him 'lucky'? Absolute ignorance of the highest order.

Yes you could argue that was down to Pearson but then it must be true for the under achievement earlier. Lucky with the fixtures at the end or unlucky with the fixtures before that. Everyone plays the other 19 teams twice, after a full season we were the 14th best in the Premier League. That's it, you don't get lucky to finish 14th with the 19th most expensive side in the division, you have to be bloody good to do it.

To everyone who thinks that: What drove you to sign up for the forum of a football club you apparently don't follow? The past few seasons are exactly why that theory is bollocks.
KP Fox Posted 11 July 2015 Posted 11 July 2015 Garry Parker? Must admit, would be nice to see him back after the way he left. Sacked the day after that thrashing by Leeds while he was caretaker manager.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 11 July 2015 Posted 11 July 2015 Maybe Cambiasso, or someone else, took charge behind the scenes for the last eight or so games. That's as good a theory as any that have been put forward so far.

We were tailed off in March and had an amazing run of 9 matches. You could play out that season from March 20 times over and we would probably go down 19 out of the 20. While it was a great achievement to stay up from where we was, there certainly was some luck involved at the end. Also we was only 3 points ahead of 17th, so things were close down there. O'Neill on paper would be a massive step up from Pearson. That's not to say we wouldn't have improved more under Pearson. We could have, but there was also as much chance we would get relegated next year.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 11 July 2015 Posted 11 July 2015 Walsh as defensive coach. Guppy as midfield coach. Trevor Benjamin as striking coach. Prefer the first 2! Trevor Benjamin has no link to O'Neill though?? He was a Peter Taylor signing

It's quite simplistic to put the successful run of games at the end down to luck whilst completely ignoring the numerous occasions we were extremely unlucky prior to that. You can only judge a team and manager on what they did over the course of a full season and we did very well last season under Pearson.
Corky Posted 11 July 2015 Posted 11 July 2015 I'd rather be lucky and survive than competitive for the majority, unlucky and relegated like the 2004 team. Pearson did what was required- he kept us up. It was unconventional but it was managed. He's gone, we're moving on but the points total was enough to survive (and in most seasons too). The next man has a platform to take us forward.
