RedSoxUK Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Firstly his recent club record is a hell of a lot more consistent than Svennis, and he doesn't come with a reputation of wasting money on shite. Secondly, our circumstances are now completely different to when Sven came in 2010. I think this is important coming into a club, promoted a year ago, bottom dwellers up until the final 10 games. We can't spend millions on shite because it'll cripple the club financially and demoralise the rest of the squad. I think Ranieri will have an idea of who he may want to bring in already.. but, Rudkin seems to be acting on Steve Walsh's targets, who Ranieri can essentially trust - so I feel safe the millions we may possibly spend are safely invested.
Donut Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Positive about the appointment. Has experience working with a few of our players, and I cant really see the motivation or "10 years out of the Premier League" issues either. Tactically astute and flexible, and happy to work within the director of football structure. WIll be interesting to see how he sets the team up and their style, but optimistic
cjslcfc Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I generally agree with you Bovril but didn't I read on SSN that he had a win rate at Chelsea of 53% ? Having spent 120 mill with them, that's not exactly a great win rate is it? I wonder how it compares with Mourinho? 11th best in PL ever:
EnderbyFox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-f3Xt6E_r0 English seems decent "'I'm very fine"

To be fair though, he did inherit Chelsea when they could literally not spend a penny. One summer he signed Enrique DeLucas on a free and that was it. But he laid Mourinho's foundations when the Abramovich money came in.

Ranieri's spending was done at the latter end of his stint I believe, and as some teams who invest millions and buy plenty of players at the same time will know, it doesn't always work out how it's expected.

Fair enough. Good info.
Soar Fox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Never mind... We can get big Sam at xmas And Pearson to return next summer to help us get out of the championship again.
TrentFox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 TFF for that. Was dragging on way too long. Underwhelmed, but was probably always going to be. Onwards and upwards. Welcome Claudio.
bovril Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=316456 Ranieri's signings vs Mourinho's.
RedSoxUK Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Fair enough. Good info. Chelsea fans, the real Chelsea fans pre-Abramovic, agree Ranieri was a good, steady manager for them.
ImBlue Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 And Pearson to return next summer to help us get out of the championship again. Yawn

Wymsey Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I genuinely think this is the biggest risk the owners could've done, it'll either be an excellent one or a bad apple one. Their low level of patience for anyone, may affect how long he'll be here for - particularly if he has a worse-than-expected start.

Wymsey Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I don't know where you're getting this from? Making Sven and Pearson leave, rather unexpectedly.
Babylon Posted 13 July 2015 Author Posted 13 July 2015 Who would have been better? Name a name and don't sit on the fence please? How the hell can I possibly say who would or wouldn't be better, I'm not God. But you cannot list just six people and say he's the best available.
RowlattsFox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Any manager appointment is a risk, Fulham tried the experience way and went down. Cardiff tried the up and coming way, and went down. At least it's pre season and he's got a bit of time to get his ideas across.
Salieri Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Oh well, certainly could have been a lot worse. Still rather have Nige but am fully behind the new man of course, welcome Claudio.
Max Power Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Surprised by the negativity tbh. Perfectly decent choice. It's clear they wanted a nice, experience, savvy guy after pearson and Ranieri fits the bill. Now let's sign some midfielders and win the league
