Confirmed: Ranieri new manager

The hope: Has good contacts, is still respected by players, gets in a couple of names maybe slightly above our station, gets us to comfortable mid-table and by the time he goes we are a more attractive proposition to still-relevant big-name managers.

The reality: Cringeworthy, naive and expensive. Has a good start but is sacked after a woeful run of results as he usually is. Let's just hope we do enough in his first few months to stay up. Sven 2.0.

How can you talk like you've got a crystal ball an hour after he's appointed? We've all got our reservations but you're the most negative person on this forum.

Why is everyone going on like Ranieri wasn't even linked with the job?

I was wondering the same. Cottee really hasn't followed this very closely and seemed to be a Sky rent-a-quote. Obviously not thought too deeply about this. Surprised that Muzzy is surprised.

Keeps us up, gets us in top 14,by xmas no relegation position he will be a success. If he buys and allowed to spend 12-30 mill. on players then top 12 will be a success, if playing positive football.Anything in the top 10 would be a great success.

Because of owners actions, and future wishes, their continued success will be measured, on a top 12

pos.only.Including playing style and some sort of cup run.

Unfairly perhaps, but the owners must realise there will be an higher expectation, from all fans, owners have commited, and shown their hand......

General consensus amongst other fans is that we are nailed on for relegation. Ranieri has such an unfounded reputation, record is better than his status suggests.

Newcastle appointed Steve mcclaren FFS and wasn't greeted with such negativity on the football world.

Guess we'd have been saying the same had one of our rivals appointed him. Known here as the tinkerman and if you're only as good as your last job, in his case that was an unmitigated disaster. Still, he has done okay as a club manager, so have to get behind him and hope for the best.

What did the woman on Radio Leicester say?

He's basically shite, boring, players will get fed up of his changing tactics all the time then he'll fvck off in a couple of years.

At least he has a sense of humor  lol

Ranieri in his own words

Ranieri, nicknamed "the Tinkerman" for his liking of squad rotation, was also known for his turn of phrase while at Chelsea.

On being called "the Tinkerman": "If it is the case that you need just a first 11 and three or four more players, then why did Christopher Columbus sail to India to discover America?"

On his selection dilemmas: "When I don't put Damien Duff in the squad, my mother, who is 84 years old, asks why? She kills me about it, it is true."

On his imminent departure from Chelsea: "Before you kill me, you call me the "dead man walking". I must buy you an espresso. But only a little one - I am Scottish."

At a press conference before Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by Monaco in 2004: "Hello my sharks, welcome to the funeral."

I really don't get the negativity ...... We sign a world class manager for once and it's met with "hope he doesn't do anything different to Nigel" ....

Change is uncomfortable for some people but without it you generally don't make progress .... this is a progressive appointment, even if only short term. IMHO.

Getting jobs and around the world and getting sacked a lot does not equal world class. We'll soon see if he is.

My biggest concern is continuity or the lack of it. Different style, different style of management etc.

Not impressed to be honest.

Managed a lot of big clubs - sacked from the majority due to poor run of results/over tinkering.

Spends money like water. Doesn't have a history of putting together a structured approach for prolong success.

Not the right appointment for a club going into there second season in the top league.

Can see this ending in tears sacked before the end of the year and survival will be key on who remains after January.

I just think Top and Vichai are using this club as a learning curve for Top. There's no method to his recruitment of Ranieri at all. He is in his last few jobs a failed managed. Going back as far as Valencia after leaving Chelsea.

He failed to fulfil his mandate at:

Valencia - sacked poor form ( trophy winners the previous year)

Juve (sacked - poor form)

Roma (sacked - poor form)

Inter (sacked - poor form)

I don't understand it.

2 new youngish midfielders.

Well, the owners said, quite explicitly and publicly, that they want a top-10 finish.

Don't get people worrying about him bringing through quality youngsters. His last job in club football was Monaco. He signed James Rodriguez, Falcao, Ocampos Martial and Abdennour.

I don't get these negative comments towards him at all.

I can understand why people are disappointed with the Pearson sacking, but it's happened. To have someone of the calibre of Ranieri is considered a coup for a club of our size. We may be PL but we're still considered low PL. Our expectations for both league position, player recruitment and managerial appointments need to be realistic and fall in line with our status.

Should we remain and continue to improve year on year in the league, then we can start recruiting to keep up with our growing reputation.

Personally, I'm pleased at his appointment. I take little notice of his short-term jobs in Italy as no one lasts very long there, clubs are run completely different to those in England. The more important thing is that these top clubs keep appointing him in the first place! He must be doing something right.

For those that compare this to another 'Sven' signing... listen. We might not have been that successful during his time here, but it was an exciting time to be a Leicester fan. Let's hope Ranieri's time is exciting too, but with more success.

As much as we all loved Nige and disappointed he was sacked, we have to move on and I for one will be 100% behind Mr Ranieri. Given the other managers linked with the job I think Ranieri is a decent appointment.

Allardyce - wouldn't have taken the job as he's taking time out of footy.

Lennon - not convinced he could attract the calibre of players we should be aiming to sign

Dyche - just no.

O'neill - things aren't always great 2nd time round and his record with Villa and Ireland is nothing to write home about. Not convinced he did could re capture the glory he had 1st time round.

Klopp/Hiddink - wouldn't have come to us.

Cotterill - lol

Preki - who?

So in my opinion, Ranieri was the best available option. Time will tell.

Just realised that it was Ranieri who sold us Dennis W*se.

Ranieri OUT.

Smart bit of business........ ;-)
