Confirmed: Ranieri new manager

Dunno why some are bothered that he'll 'only' last a couple of years. Two years is a long time in football management.

No s**t, the last 2 WEEKS have felt like an eternity.

He failed to fulfil his mandate at:

Valencia - sacked poor form ( trophy winners the previous year)

Juve (sacked - poor form)

Roma (sacked - poor form)

Inter (sacked - poor form)

I don't understand it.

Got Juventus finishing 3rd & 2nd.

Got Roma finishing 2nd in his first season.

Inter have been on the decline for a while.

If you don't have winning success at clubs like that then you get sacked, unfortunately that's how those types of clubs operate but finishing 2nd isn't bad.

He did brilliant at Monaco & that was only a year ago.

Already worked with Huth and Cambiasso. Clearly our 2 best players, big managerial name with huge CV, worrying his recent record and amount of jobs but publicly saying he wanted the job shows signs hopefully that he will take job serious and not just a pay check.

As much as we all loved Nige and disappointed he was sacked, we have to move on and I for one will be 100% behind Mr Ranieri. Given the other managers linked with the job I think Ranieri is a decent appointment.

Allardyce - wouldn't have taken the job as he's taking time out of footy.

Lennon - not convinced he could attract the calibre of players we should be aiming to sign

Dyche - just no.

O'neill - things aren't always great 2nd time round and his record with Villa and Ireland is nothing to write home about. Not convinced he did could re capture the glory he had 1st time round.

Klopp/Hiddink - wouldn't have come to us.

Cotterill - lol

Preki - who?

So in my opinion, Ranieri was the best available option. Time will tell.

You mean the best of those linked, not the best available. Because there are more than about 6 managers out there.

Whole thing just stinks of us not learning our lessons from the Sven debacle.

Right had abit of time to calm down, again I'll reiterate i'm not too keen, but it's not awful I guess and he's probably the best of a bad bunch on the list (Barr the young managers who tbh i'd have gone out my way to get) think most of my negativity over the situation is because i'm still bitter about Nige being sacked and i'm bitter towards the owners for that reason, i've picked their statement to bits, mainly of the use of 'long term', this is not a long term appointment, it is not a long term strategy, I don't see it that way anyway, hopefully i'll be wrong but i'm quite confident in saying all of that.

Another thing and maybe i'm just being picky and finding things to slag off now but no press conference, flew straight out to Austria with the owners, now I know it's good to see him 'getting straight to work', working with the players straight away but does anyone think perhaps there is no press conference because the owners don't want to face any awkward questions? Have something to hide about the sacking? :dunno:

Who would have been better? Name a name and don't sit on the fence please?

Your talking out of your ass Babs not even comparable imo, I could understand if we appointed a manager with no prem experience.

With Sven we appointed a manager with no championship experience and that was destined to fail.

People like linekar saying same old names getting jobs! Would he have said the same if allardyce got it?

Wouldn't read/care much about what people say - take more from Ranieri's previous stints in management, the players he's managed commenting on him and the fans of those teams.

Lineker isn't a manager.

Cottee isn't a manager.

Harry Redknapp isn't even in the same universe in terms of tactical management as Ranieri.

His league record seems solid enough. He's not Clotterill. Let's wait and see.

Understatement of the century.

I'm surprised at how underwhelmed people are. It might not work, but he's got a proven track record of getting good results at top European teams. I'm excited.

Fresh start for all the players - will certainly be an incentive for some of the fringe players.

Didn't know about the Walsh connection, I'm getting more and more positive.

Firstly his recent club record is a hell of a lot more consistent than Svennis, and he doesn't come with a reputation of wasting money on shite. Secondly, our circumstances are now completely different to when Sven came in 2010.

I generally agree with you Bovril but didn't I read on SSN that he had a win rate at Chelsea of 53% ?

Having spent 120 mill with them, that's not exactly a great win rate is it?

I wonder how it compares with Mourinho?

Out of realistic candidates (after it had emerged that O'Neill wanted Keane with him) I'd have probably gone for Ranieri - might be a spender but he knows his onions. I don't really care about his record with Greece, only so much you can do with a lacklustre squad and international football is nothing like league where you have time to buy players and oversee them every week. Looking forward to seeing how we start the season, just really hope Walsh and Shakey stay on.

Welcome aboard, Claudio!
