Andy King's future

Recommended Posts

Now NP is no longer here to pick his favourite players will Kingy and Nugent get a look in next season. With a new class manager I can't that happening.

What a load of rubbish. In the Championship NP kept Drinkwater and James together pretty much every week and Nuge was an important player and had a great partnership with Vardy. Pointless thread yet again

How on earth has King suddenly become the "best" or "second best" midfielder at the club?? When did that happen lol

He is currently first choice CM imo. James is injured long term, he's better than Hammond and ended the season stronger than Drinkwater.

Tidy and efficient. I believe in one game he had a pass rate of 96%. A much better footballer than James and Hammond. Only second to Cambiasso, so is currently number one out of our midfielders.

You never know, he may play king in his old role of just behind the strikers, poaching like the old days, personally i would love to see it!

Has King ever played behind the strikers? I remember him having most success in much deeper position. He always played like Lampard in the way that he'd time his arrivals late but his base position was never that high up the pitch.

By being better than James and Drinkwater, but not as good as Cambiasso?

Before last season I possibly would have put Drinky ahead of him, but not anymore. Never been convinced by James either, think King is the best of those three.

Edit: forgot about Hammond. But yeah, he's bottom of the list. Not a bad player, but we have better options.

Is this a joke? After Cambiasso, Kingy is the best midfielder at this club. He's also one of most loyal and longest serving players we've had for a long time and IIRC he's our top scoring midfielder of all time, beating Muzzy Izzet.

Personally, I've found that the people who don't rate King are generally people who know **** all about how the game is actually played.

Without any disrespect to King, majority of Muzzy's goals came for us in the prem.

I personally think, as an all round midfielder, James is our second best midfield player.

BUT, for me, it's our midfield that pound for pound, still remains our weakest position.

Both in terms of strength and steel AND in terms of play making and scoring sufficient goals I think it's imperative that we push the boat out for a real quality player to accompany Cambiasso and the others. Cambiasso is quality but kicking on a bit now. James is good, but not brilliant. King is lovely on the ball but still lacks a bit of physicality (although has improved in that respect) and Drinkwater is a bit of a master of all trades but not brilliant at any.

So, for me, a really good midfielder would be most welcome.

Yeah... but he's just not is he, not to the majority of people.  Thankfully Pearson didn't think that as he picked James and Drinkwater more last year.  You spoke to the OP like it was some kind of stone cold fact, when it's exceptionally debatable.

Kingy has been part of the set up for 6/7 years. Every time a new manager comes in he proves his worth and battles back into the team. Played his heart out during the run in as well. How you can accuse him of being a 'favourite' is beyond belief.

The reintroduction of King into the side last season coincided with the start of the great run.

Wasn't it at West Brom? (Came on as a sub and helped turn the game)

King has become one of my favourite City players. I think having Cambiasso around has improved his game. He's always been composed on the ball..now even more so.

I really hope he stays and he plays.

  :sweating:  Are you feeling alright Col?!  :P

The opening post has to be a wind up. Became 3rd choice to a very effective Drinkwater and James partnership but last year he showed just how good a player he is. With James injured and Cambiasso not here, Kingy is the best we've got at the moment. He's so dependable. Watch the training vids and he's pretty tidy in posession and the one time he gives it away, trying to play a killer pass, he intercepts it straight back.

There are more dynamic midfielders, better passes, harder men but there are very few with his reading of the game and all-round ability in the middle of the park. He'll always do a job in a variety of roles which is why he should be here for a long time no matter how far we rise up the league.

Dear me amother idiot with a short term memory. King has been invaluable to us over the last 5 years. He is a true professional, when out of the team he workd bloody hard to get back into it, he he is happy to work hard and wait for his chance. True professional is Andy. Great guy as well.

As for his ability. He has cropped up with some of the most imprtant goals for this club over the last few years. He scored two vital ones nearby he end of this season, one of which you could argue saved our run. Others mention able are against Man City, against Chelsea and there are countless more.

He is a box to box player, who is fantastic at mopping up and spreading the play quickly. .(see the training videos for great examples of this). He is crucially also great at being in the right place at the right time. True club legend!

As for Nuge, top scorer in the championship season and amazing at linking up the play, someone created a statistics table about how nuge had loads of assists this season, that's what he is great at. He has been more of an AM for us in the letter part of last season, so really he should be judged on assists and link up play as apposed to goals.

Finally Konch. Well I think he is passed it now. But he has been a great servant to the club. Nige didn't play him for most of the latter part of the season as schlupp played lwb. Hardly picking your favourites is it?

Grow up.

If Kingy leaves i'll kill myself

best post of the day - we can live in hope.

King doesn't tackle and trots around all day

Only ok going forwards. If people actually went to the games they would see he lost us so many goals over recent seasons by allowing opposition midfielders to run past him or slide through balls past him which ended up as goals. Just stating the facts - no need to get so angry about it.. lol touched a nerve I see

Or do you mean he's the best now Cambis gone, James is injured, Drinky not good last season, Hammond is...well Hammond?

Kingy had got his place back.. Got injured against Chelsea.. Matty was filling in for him when he got injured..

yes but all passing backwards - whenever he receives the ball he just gives it back to the same player - watch and you will see - open your eyes tinted glasses brigade.

Well he didn't pick Drinkwater more did he? In fact there was very little between all 3 of them in terms of pitch time last season.

In fact by the end of last season King had re-established himself as the preferred partner to Cambiasso and on merit.

None of King, Drinkwater and James are consistently good enough to hold down a place for a whole season at this level at the moment but thankfully King stepped up when James' form tailed off towards the end of last season. The reality is that King is unfortunately quite a streaky player who can go 5 or 6 games without offering anything to the team but is on occasion an absolute colossus for us. His performances in big games throughout his City career have regularly been outstanding.
