The ugly face of racism.

Points accepted, Finnegan.

But, I wouldn't be comfortable walking through the streets of Bradford, Greater Manchester or Northern Ireland if I were black currently.

I'll give you Ireland. Ireland and Wales are about twenty years behind the rest of Britain, we're forgiven a bit of racism. ;)

I don't think there's a lot of racist violence against black people in Manchester though, is there? Let's compare Bradford to the white deep south or the rural depths of eastern Europe shall we?

You wouldn't like to be a Jew walking through Bradford.

Lived in Manchester for the past three years, it seems very varied. It seems rough also, but it always has been.

Pretty sure you'd be no worse walking through a Muslim estate in Bradford in orthodox Jewish attire than visiting Neston Gardens in a hijab.

The vast majority don't give a toss but there's idiots everywhere.

White British people reminding everyone that ethnic people can be racist is becoming as boring and tedious as people calling everyone politically correct, usually to mask something stupid they're saying.

I think I am going to have to speak with her, though not until I've calmed down a bit. I'm not so much shocked at the attitude - dickheads come in all colours and creeds - but I'm appalled that she would express her views to a twelve year old; it would have been easy to make an inoffensive excuse.

How old is the girl Buce?

She's just turned 12.

People do say 'I am not racist but......' in the same way as 'I believe in fairness but that is PC gone mad' or 'We never had H$S laws in my day  and I was never injured in my job as an accountant'

This woman seems to have her reasons but what they are I cannot guess. If she has had a bad experience it is no reason to label all white people the same in the same it is wrong to label all Muslims as potential terrorists.

I posted a link a few weeks back where they interviewed Muslims from somewhere like Doncaster. One bloke said that his teenage son said to him that if there is a mugging in the area the finger points at non-white people first. But the ones interviewed were disgusted by the actions of the Muslim Terrorist groups and never regarded them as true Muslims. It was the place where a teenager ran off to join ISIS. One said they know the family but cannot bring themselves to visit to see how they are coping.

I completely agree, it's unfortunately far from uncommon though. Walk down any grotty high street in the UK and you'll see people bad mouthing people of another race etc to their offspring.

Whilst it obviously doesn't help matters, I don't think it's necessarily a given that said child will then follow in the footsteps. My mum for example is quite backward when it comes to race, religion, sexuality etc and always has been, but my opinions couldn't be any more different. Though she would never have openly said something like that.

I think you'll find it difficult to find a single person who doesn't think this woman is being both racist and a twat. So no, it doesn't sum up Britain at all and no, nobody with a brain thinks that only white people can be racist.

what do you think would happen if buce had said that to her? it would have been in the papers already. "racist Britain" etc. thats what i meant, that she thinks she can get away with being so blunt. and i didnt appreciate the way you wrote that post. sometimes its like people only browse forums so they can jump on other people like that.

12 is not the age to be introduced to racism or influenced by it. It is the age to teach tolerance towards others as the next four or five years they will face many of this type of issue.

That's bad. Why live in a white person's country. Ignorance of this kind is bad, stereotyping is just as bad.

The only question I would have is why does she have such beliefs

Sorry but that's rubbish, or people wouldn't want to immigrate here.

We're generally a very liberal, open minded, pretty laid back people. There's far worse race tension in the states and in mainland Europe. Hell, the further east you go the worse it generally gets - I love the Japanese but they're terrible for race attitudes!

The left wing press like to make out we're all racist, the right wing press like to hope we're all racist but the vast majority of the population don't really give a shit what colour someone is.

That goes for the white British and pretty much all ethnic minorities.

This woman might be a twat but as Matt says, there's countless other Sikhs that are cool.

There's racist morons from every race but I don't think they're a majority anywhere in modern Britain.

You really think thats why most immigrants want to be here?

The media can't report something if they don't know it's happened, nor was it exactly clear from your post that that's what you meant. I browse forums to voice my ill-informed opinions and I'd be pretty bored if people didn't voice their disagreement with other posters on here to be honest. If you think that counts as jumping down someone's throat then I'm sorry, feel free to put me on ignore.

Shocking Buce.one problem with confronting the mother is. Your daughter is clearly and understandably upset but could this then stir up a hornets nest and the parents insist their daughter does not talk to yours at school either, which will cause further distress, I know it's hard for a 12 year old but I'm hoping your daughters friend sings your daughters praises to her parents. Really tough one. Biting your tongue even though you're right or risk harming your daughters friendship.

Having a 12 and 15 year old whatever you do, it will be your fault!

Good luck.

I'm fed up hearing about the ugly face of racism, you never hear anything about its beautiful face.

It's probably rich and Italian, I reckon

No doubt when questioned the mother will deny saying it and will accuse your daughter of lying. Anything to get out of being questioned.

Tough situation to be in because you can easily make this worse and somehow become your fault.

I've no idea what he looks like, so maybe.

Has he ever put a picture of himself up?  For too long he's been a blank canvas onto which we paint our hopes and dreams as far as I'm concerned
