This is becoming "What Grinds My Gears", may as well merge.

There are things which people dont understand which dont grind our gears.

Like quantum physics.

Yeah but one of the things that they don't understand is that this thread is for stuff that you just don't get, rather than it being really annoying.

Which is really annoying!

Go for it. It would still make you a C***

No I wouldn't, especially when I spend the rest of the match checking how many likes my video got on Snappygram.

So basically you're just as judgemental as they are... just because you're watching a video doesn't make you better than someone reading a book. It just means you haven't any patience to indulge detail in a story and shallow?

This kind of behaviour annoys me when done at a social event and people have organised to meet up and do something together... and yes, it does happen.

For the same reason I don't get going to the cinema with your mates. You sit next to each other in the dark and don't communicate. Point?

No, I'm not judgemental, I'm speaking of experiences I've had. I'm not claiming to be better than anyone but often family members etc will act as if they are when they're sat there watching I'm A Celebrity and I'm reading the news on my phone. "Get your nose out of that screen for once". It's honestly laughable.

Of course it happens at social events, I try to stay away from it at all times. I play board games with my mates for example and it pisses me off when one of them just starts flicking through facebook when I'm explaining the rules.

As it happens I agree with you about the cinema, I've been on my own a few times. It seems to be a popular place to take a girl for a first date, never really got that either.

i always thought that was literally the point, you dont have to speak to her and she enjoys herself. it's win win.

People indicate to take the bend in a one-way road surrounded by buildings.  It doesn't grind my gears or annoy me on the roads but what else are they going to do, drive into someone's house? lol

happens every day by ours, there's a road that snakes through a golf course at the top of my road and people always indicate to go left then right, the only other option is to drive onto the fourth tee or the fourteenth bunker. obviously you're going left you wet one.

Speaking of, I passed a Picanto on the road to Rotterdam today and the person driving it was a cool sunglasses man.  Made a mental note to let you know.

In fact you see quite a few of them in Holland which further bolsters my argument because how many nations are cooler than the Dutch?  A couple of the Scandinavian ones maybe but can't think of a lot more.

Croatia is cool (I've never been but it looks cool and looks are the most important thing)

Croatia tries too hard imo.  It's like you have stunning scenery, your beer's cheap, and your women are outrageously attractive and enjoy topless sunbathing we get it already.

Post might be deleted but:

Don't know why some don't think 'Chink' is racist...

Some people use it in a derogatory manner, I think it's the tone and the context which make it racist.

Like the proper noun 'Indian' isn't racist but you start calling people "an Indian cünt" and it's obviously racist.

Apparently the new 'craze' for us oldies is that when you go out for a meal with friends/other couples, everyone has to put their mobile devices in the middle of the table at the start of the evening.

The idea is that everyone has a good old fashioned conversation instead of checking texts/social media/news/FT etc.

The first person who can't resist the temptation and picks up their device to check, has to pay everyone's bill. If everyone 'holds out' for the entire evening, the bill gets split equally. Some people just can't go 15 minutes without the 'need' to pick up their phone!

How the fook did we manage before mobiles! lol

I found that being dark and unable to speak meant my dates went much more smoothly, its only when they saw me in the cold light of day and i had to talk to them that things went pear shaped.

It's the equivalent of "P**i" but it's so common, that it's just regularly accepted as a reference to takeaways when it shouldn't be. For once, in that case it strictly refers to the Chinese (unlike P**i which is often used against people from more than one nation). My Grandma is Chinese and she hates that word. Obviously, it's not used in the same context as it used to be as much, but the ignorance is astounding.

It doesn't bother me, but I can see why it would annoy her.

If those were my friends then I'd strongly resist the temptation to go out and eat in the first place. What a totally guff little rule that is. There's nothing wrong with checking a phone during a meal. Last time I checked I still had good conversation round a pub/restaurant table whilst being able to look at my phone intermittently.

Maybe it says a lot about the people who do that than anything else. I mean you need your phone if the topic of conversation is polishing your mid-life crisis Boxter, the recent holiday to Tenerife and how the kids are doing alright at university.

I'd win by miles  nobody  ever phones me. The others would have their wives or GF checking up on them.

They could always turn the  phones  off or put them on silent.  I'd get someone to phone each of them in the first 15 minutes.
