Thought it would be fun, while all this madness over the vacant CM roles that Cambiasso and James have left, to have a poll to see what our perspective on our potential CM for this coming season.

Posted

1. I agree that somebody long term is needed, and I think Aránguiz would be the best choice (based on what I know of him, which is no more than that of Kanté or Mendy in all honesty).

2. Equally I think that we need somebody to fill Cambiasso's roll as best as possible, which of those suggested is Inler in terms of what he can offer off the pitch as well. For me, ideally, Aránguiz and Inler.

I know it's all hypothetical and based around potential signings and what not, but I'm hoping Drinkwater can reproduce the form he showed in the season we were promoted and that King can start the new campaign in the manner that he finished the last. They're both very capable, but I fear that their inconsistency will be their downfall should we maintain our place for a third year. King rarely has a 'bad' game, but he tends to go missing far too often.

*Edit* To clarify I'm not suggesting that Inler can offer literally as much as Cambiasso did behind the scenes, but that he can at least offer more in that respect than a player in their mid twenties can.

Cambiasso and Aranguiz, pure South American flair.

Inler is a fine player as well, can't comment on Mandy or Kante as I haven't seen either play.

Dream midfield pairing is obviously King + 1 other

Aranguiz and Kante. Good mix of established international in his prime and an exciting young prospect from ligue 1, which we love.

It'd make my summer and really settle my nerves if we bring in both.

I wanted Cambiasso to stay but even if he did I wanted us to sign centre mids.

We're not "replacing Cambiasso", we never were. We always needed another midfielder regardless of his decision to leave or stay.

Dream pairing is a clone of Andy King with Andy King.

If Street Fighter 2 is anything to go by, and I think it is, Andy King 1 will play in blue and Andy King 2 will have to play in black, and that'll just be downright confusion central

Have a feeling we'll have a definite answer for both Kante and Aranguiz, it's Aranguiz's deadline and if reports are to believed it should be wrapped up for Kante by mid-afternoon latest.

Kante & Aranguiz, and Aranguiz if only one option.

I'm not bothered about Cambiasso anymore, I'd rather have a longer term option.

Completely correct on all 3.

Last season we had Cambiasso, James, King, Dronkwater and Hammond. Now we have an injured James, King, drinks and Hammond.

Of course we are replacing him!

Unless you're being sentimental and saying he "can't be replaced"

I'm not getting sentimental no, I'm getting fed up of people banging on about him. He's gone now.

What I mean is, we were never replacing him as such - our midfield wasn't good enough last season so we always required a good central midfielder regardless of Cambiasso's decision. We seemed to wait a hell of a long time for him.

Whats the point of having the Cambiasso option in this poll? He's not coming back.

If its a dream pairing and Cambiasso is an option then you might as well put Xavi and Iniesta in the possible options too.

Because Cambiasso played for us last season and the was regarded as our best centre mid and the point of the thread is to gage our perspective of CM's linked to us. If the poll results show a large majority going for a new player and we succeed in signing said player then this thread will show that in the fans eyes our squad has improved with regard to CM.
