Over the moon with that. Fantastic start

Slightly disappointed to concede 2 goals to that shower of shite but hey ho. King and Drinky bossed the midfield and the attacking players are frightening

Very very promising

Well Faroe Islands, media loved using that to knock Ranieri and the amount of times I heard that from so called experts, that he shouldn't get the job was a joke... and using that as the only reason why lol

Shexy football.

Sunderland were turd in the first half so it's hard to judge but most teams couldn't cope with us when we play like that. A bit more ruthlessness going forward and concentration at the back and we're onto a winner.

Great first half performance and very impressed with Okazaki, our pace and tenacity going forward will damage teams and I have no doubt we will comfortably finish mid table this season, happy day's.

Great first game, bit gutted we conceded two goals at home in a game we dominated. I'm just going to be happy if we can stay up this season anything more is a bonus

Fantastic start, the desire, spirit and fearless football was still there, long may it continue.

Mahrez could be anything, he is outrageous, he could go down as the best value for money signing we ever made.

Leicester 4-2 Sunderland: 5 things we learned as the Foxes maul the Black Cats on opening day

VIEW GALLERY

Sunderland face another relegation fight on this evidence as they were ripped apart by Leicester City.

New Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri enjoyed a memorable opening day with goals in the first half from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, who bagged a brace.

The shell-shocked visitors were so poor, boss Dick Advocaat even pulled off captain Lee Cattermole after 30 minutes with his side trailing 3-0 after Cattermole dived in to concede a penalty.

The visitors' slack marking enabled Mahrez to run riot and Leicester could and should have scored more in the second half.

But Sunderland did at least show some fight after the break when Jermain Defoe pulled a goal back. But Albrighton then grabbed himself a deserved goal after teeing up the hosts' first two before Steven Fletcher headed in to lessen the visitors' embarrassment.

...And his team-mates are thrilled

Here's five things we learned:

1) Dick Advocaat should have retired...

Boss Dick Advocaat should have let his wife decide his future and retired this summer like Mrs Advocaat wanted. The Dutchman was a hero last season for keeping the Black Cats up but they look like they have no lives left on this evidence.

2) Lee Cattermole is a liability

Whoever gave Lee Cattermole a new five-year contract at Sunderland this summer really needs their head examined. The midfielder,27, was subbed after just 30 minutes here having given away a penalty allowing Leicester to make it 3-0.

And it's 3-0: Riyad Mahrez scores from the penalty spot

And wheels away in celebration

3) Ranieri is better at fan relations than Nigel Pearson

Claudio Ranieri got a warm welcome from the home fans and became an instant hero. Having read the owners' programme notes here, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha values the importance of “upholding the club's good name” and first impressions of Ranieri on and off the pitch have certainly been very good – in contrast to his predecessor Nigel Pearson who even told one of his own fans last season to “f*** off & die”!

4) The Foxes attackers are on fire

Watch out for Leicester's highly-dangerous widemen Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton who have both continued from where they left off last term after helping City stay up. The pair ripped Sunderland to pieces in the first half as Albrighton set-up two while Mahrez netted twice.

2-0: Riyad Mahrez scores Leicester's second goal

5) Vardy could become a £25m man

Jamie Vardy finished last season with an England call-up and on this form he will deserve a squad place again. His blistering pace gives teams huge problems and forces them to defend deep. The 28-year-old was 'at it' from the first minute pressuring Sunderland's defence. His ratting around never let the visitors settle on the ball and he was dangerous in the box scoring with a clever flick on. If he improves his finishing he will be a £25m player as he could have had a hat-trick here today.

we were amazing for an hour. mahrez, as ive said for almost 18 months, is the best player outside the top 4. okazaki could score no goals all season and still be a hero. great guys.

Good performance all round for the majority of the game. The defense needs to sharpen up a bit, made a few mistakes two of which led to goals, but going forward looked fantastic. Was really impressed with Okazaki, Mahrez and Albrighton. Okazaki and Vardy are going to be a nightmare for defenses playing like that. And Drinkwater looked so much better than last season, hope he can keep it up.

Didn't get the chance to watch it unfortunately. What formation did we play? 3 or 4 at the back?

4-4-2

Albrighton mostly was on the left and did incredible there, Mahrez the right. Schlupp pushed forward a lot from LB.

Yohan came on to play RB. Fuchs came on to play LB, Schlupp moved up.

Was a whole mix of formations, think they started 4-4-2 essentially, but Schlupp was way ahead of the LB position and Mahrez was all over the shot.

So I'd say a 3-4-1-2 just about, with RDL sitting back a little more than usual, idk to be honest. It did come to a 4-4-1-1 at some point.

idk!

As much as I am loving today, it's too soon to know how well he will do just yet

Disagree, some of the flack aimed at Ranieri was utter garbage, If NP was still here there would be a wankfest going on. Anyone who truly follows Leicester would have taken confidence with the pre season additions.

Overall, a very satisfactory start to the new season.

Claudio will have observed the weaknesses in defence that were exposed today, and will work on them, with perhaps one more quality signing coming in.

Up front we looked really good, but must not throw away opportunities, as we appeared to, today, being sharper and more alert.

The new players seem to have slotted in well, and Claudio must be well satisfied.

On a personal note, I am confident that that we now have the right manager, who will build us up to a higher level, and instil even greater confidence, and skill levels within the squad.

The future is looking promising.   :scarf:  :scarf:

For those of us who weren't there, some key questions:-

How did Drinky do, is he closer to the 2013-14 version than he was last season?

Kingy has been part of many great team performances, surely he is now accepted as being good enough after all the doubts.

Balti Pies, did they run out, describe the pastry, the filling, the smell.....

Also looked a little 4-2-3-1 on the defence

RDL - Morgan - Huth

                                   -  Schlupp

        King - Drinkwater

Mahrez - Okazaki - Albrighton

                 Vardy

Not sure 2 CBs are our best lineup but how can anyone complain for today.

Albrighton was out of this world. Mahrez was a magician, Okazaki and Vardy were terrors, Drinky was better than Cambi in any game last year, Kasper kept us in at the beginning,

Also liked the look of Fuchs when he came in and the intelligence of Kanté even the guy whose name I can't explain came in and bolstered the defence in height nicely.

Though Drinkwater had his best game for a long time.

I do but that will be Gary's excuse not to apologise

I thought Drinky was exceptional and he so nearly scored a blinder.
