Leicester City Vs Sunderland Post Match Thread 4 - 2

Credit to CR for playing 442.

Think that surprised Sunderland early doors. Reckon NP would have played 352 and Was would have got a game.

Mayrez is going to have the season of his life, he is so good. Vardy was very good and thought Okasaki never stopped running. Thought Wes had a good game, Drinky back to something like his best.

Can't wait for West Ham.

Before the sloppy ending we could have scored eight or nine times from excellent chances.

Some were made from sheer determination but others from the most sublime football I've seen from Leicester in years.

One particular move from defence through to the final shot on goal by Mayrez would surely have been an early contender for goal of the season.

But there were so many memorable moments and perhaps 45 minutes across the two halves of absolutely exhilarating play.

It was a team effort in capital letters but Mayrez, Vardy, Okazaki, Drinkwater and Albrighton were individually exceptional.

It was thrilling to see and doubly pleasing to see our newcomers get their first chance of first team minutes.

Any further potential signings should perhaps note that we're top of the Premiership! Happy days.

It's Mahrez with an 'h' ;)

I think Schlupp and King deserve praise too. Unbelievable energy he's got, that Jeff of ours. I almost couldn't believe it when he flew past Matthews/Coates at the end of added time. He pulled up alright, but not before he was already past his man.

King was at his usual positional best, which makes up for his glaring lack of pace, and should have finished the game with at least one goal. His attempt to curl one in with the outside of his boot first half deserved better.

Pleased for us to get off the mark with a win. And all of our new signings played as well.

I was particularly impressed with Okazaki, he was chasing every loose ball and was too quick for the Sunderland defenders. It was a shame he didn't cap off his performance with a goal.

Well I wasn't expecting that!  The first half was as good as I've seen us play for a very long time.  Some of the inter play was outstanding and it was particularly pleasing to see Drinkwater playing so well.  Considering that was for the most part the same group of players who started last season, what a contrast.

I thought Mahrez looked good last season, but on today's form he was fantastic.  Vardy and Albrighton carrying on from where they left off.  Okasaki looks to be a very good addition and in general we looked like a very decent premier league team.

The only negative was that the defence looked a bit jittery at times and it was a shame we let in two.  But we scored 4 and 6 wouldn't have been flattering  :)

It was a 352 to start with?

De Leat Huth Morgan

Albrighton King Drinkwater Schlupp

Mahrez

Vardy Okazaki

Switching to a 442

Deleat Huth Morgan Schlupp

Albrighton Kong Drinkwater Schlupp

Vardy Okazaki

Liking the formation, TIKERMAN at his best.

Mahrez is class. Okazaki looks great such quick feet. So many chances today, and I'm little disappointed we conceded two sloppy goals.

Great three points, all are vital.

Keep it up Claudio

Was 4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1 with Mahrez and Albrighton switching wings until we brought on Kante and switched to a 4-5-1.

Excellent team performance. The hardworking partnership of Vardy and Okazaki was fantastic. Drinkwater impressive too.

Bit disappointing with the fact we conceded two goals, especially the second I don't know how far Kasper wanted to come out of his goal. We could/should have scored more than four.

An absolutely brilliantly energetic and high intensity performance today. Mahrez, Albrighton, Vardy, Okazaki (fook me, we've got two Vardys now!) and Drinkwater all really impressed but truth be told a solid individual and team effort from all across the board.

The thing that impressed me most about Ranieri's debut was his ability to utilise some of our biggest pacey attacking threats the same fashion with a slight tweak from a counter attack emphasis to a more possession based control focus. That combination worked really well. Got a lot of joy out spreading play wide and driving for the byline. Some of the cutbacks and deliveries today were exceptional and we could have taken more advantage of them too tbh. A strong start from the Tinker.

Loved the tifo at the start again from Union FS too, a great entrance for the players.

Albrighton will be in the England squad at this rate.

ADVANCE TROLLING WARNING!!!!

- I think we should leave him out of the squad for the best part of seven months eh, Fox Ulike, Babs, Doc? What do you reckon? After all, Claudio needs time to learn.

Jeez, around five minutes into the second half, the Albrighton assist releasing Vardy on the left, cutting in to the box with a diagonal run and and beating Pantilimon with a right footed shot - inches wide of the far post. If that had gone in!! Beautiful move.

I really would've settled for this today...

Quite an apt hoarding today...

It was 100% 4 4 2/11 from the start.

Very good performance. Olazaki looks the part and our attacking performance was class. Very sloppy goals to concede but who cares.

Anyone else think their second goal was like one of those headers on Fifa where the attacker always wins the aerial duel?!

Enjoyed that. 60 minuets of hardcore football porn, and then a little bit of sloppy seconds however I was impressed with the new guys Okazaki in particular, very tidy player.

More of the same please lads.

Was never a 442 from the start we eventually did play it yes but centre backs were far to spread out for it to be a 442 sorry.

What the chuff were you watching ash!

4-4-2 and spot on to do so. Called it before that we struggle with 3 on 3 up top and he countered it brilliantly.

Credit to him today.

Pull your head out of your arse you daft shitbadger. Pearson took time to learn but he clearly did, and that's completely irrelevant to today.

First thoughts, Okazaki reminds me of Dickov, if he's got goals as well he'll go far.

You know it's a great overall performance when you're disappointed with a 4-2 scoreline. Mahrez, Albrighton and Vardy were all fan-flippin'-tastic. Okazaki is going to be great for us, gets in everyone's faces like Vards but good at getting back too. Drinky also very tidy overall. Shouldn't have conceded 2 but hey ho, fantastic start to the season!

I thought it was 'window licker'.

Clever lad.

I think we saw today, what ability some of these players have.

Considering this was the first time we have played this group together, Sunderland or not, it was obviously a superb performance overall. The potential is there, and given time to gel, we could surprise many of the pundits, by finishing in the top half of the table.
