foxfanazer Posted 13 August 2015 Author Posted 13 August 2015 We will speak slowly for you. 1. The three lads were misogynistic and treated the women poorly 2. They were racist 3. They filmed themselves and sent it to mates clearly bragging about their antics 4. They were on a work trip, paid for by the owners, in the owners country, where they are respected and have close relationships with the royal family and they were there to represent the club In Vardy's case, 1. He was racist 2. He was abusive 3. He was filmed by someone else and doesn't seem proud of his actions 4. He wasn't on a work trip representing the club Not sure if you can see the differences now. Maybe a spot the difference picture would help if you are having problems with the long words? I don't fancy spotting the difference between people at a casino table to Hopper's ring piece

Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 Anyone else cringe when Claudio randomly mentioned how well Jamie and Shinji get on? One big melting pot
shade Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 I consider myself an intelligent guy, went to university, travelled, well read, quite liberal and I can honestly hand on heart say I didn't know jap was considered racist until this all kicked off.
Wymsey Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 I consider myself an intelligent guy, went to university, travelled, well read, quite liberal and I can honestly hand on heart say I didn't know jap was considered racist until this all kicked off. Hear, hear. It's something to do with the Japanese War (one that I don't know about at all), and that word was apparently an insult aimed at their soldiers.

Ditto, apart from going to university. Growing up in the 50's / 60's, I can remember occasional animosity towards Germany, but none towards Japan or Italy come to that. Apart from the times we played sport against Germany, no problems at all. It's only since the PC brigade have analysed every little incident and encouraged division, that the problems are growing. In my eyes the problem is not helped by anonymous keyboard warriors desperate to get Vardy sacked. If they were really sincere in their beliefs re racial discrimination, why don't they jump on a plane to Moscow and visit Spartak's social club and preach to them. No that would be putting their head above the parapet. Vardy has apologised, accepted his punishment, move on.
fleckneymike Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 Hear, hear. It's something to do with the Japanese War (one that I don't know about at all), and that word was apparently an insult aimed at their soldiers. You mean World War 2.
Wymsey Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 You mean World War 2. Yes, you're right, sorry. http://www.japan-talk.com/jt/new/is-the-word-Jap-derogatory
fleckneymike Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 Yes, you're right, sorry. http://www.japan-talk.com/jt/new/is-the-word-Jap-derogatory No worries, but you may want to check that the University you went to was accredited if you've never heard of WW2
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 The cognitive dissonance on here is shocking. Every so often, I read a thread and think to myself, there is absolutely no way people can behave in a less consistent, more intellectually dishonest way than this, and then another thread comes along and proves me wrong. "I didn't even know Jap was a racist word whaaaaa?" Astonishing.
Frank to be Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 The Mirror's not even good for loo paper. And quite why anyone's mentioning the Vardy saga with the Thailand three I've no idea. They are hardly comparable. Because they've still got the knives out for owners since it was announced they weren't British and this is an opportunity to twist it in a little bit more under the cover of pretending not to see the obvious differences between the two cases.

"I didn't even know Jap was a racist word whaaaaa?" Astonishing. Why should people know? I've never heard it used nor have I used it. In a normal sentence, I wouldn't have considered it racist. Obviously using it at an abusive way because of someone's appearance would always be racist.
Maggie's town fox Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 I agree that Vardy was hit with a large fine, the correct punishment as he held his hands up as soon as it was made public, however professional's should also remember they are representing our great club but should not be held back from having a social life. As for the Scum Sun comic who are clearly looking for scraps after the Thailand embarrassment to fill there pathetic effort of a newspaper then I say that I sincerely hope that sooner rather than later they go the same way as the News of the World, DOWN THE PAN.
whitlock Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 Probably pay the fine from his winnings from that night

If it was even nearly as big a taboo as you're making out, how come The Sun have been using it in their headlines for years without anyone batting an eyelid? Probably not even exclusively them either

dedlock Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 Why anyone takes seriously a far right odious scandal sheet from the Murdoch stable heaven knows. As others have posted the story is so hypocritical given the language habitually used in that rag. Vardy was foolish. He has to be more aware of the standards required. As fans we should boycott the Rag as scousers did post Hillsborough.

Guest bennytwohats Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 It is double standards though. I despair.
Viva Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 I consider myself an intelligent guy, went to university, travelled, well read, quite liberal and I can honestly hand on heart say I didn't know jap was considered racist until this all kicked off. How about the fact that the bloke was probably not even from Japan? Just lumping everyone with the term Jap because they are from that part of Asia.
MC Prussian Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 Well, the club consider Vardy a valuable asset - it's no surprise they're clinging onto him and thus have "only" hit him with a considerable fine. He's worth millions. Different case with three stupid young lads on a work holiday, bragging about their misogynist and racist behaviour to the public. Their market value combined is probably in the five- to six-digit region.
Guest bennytwohats Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 How about the fact that the bloke was probably not even from Japan? Just lumping everyone with the term Jap because they are from that part of Asia. This, and the context that even if the term wasn't a racist term (which it is), it was used in a derogatory way to single out his race/nationality. Disgusting behaviour.
zante Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 Jamie Vardys having a party bring your sake' and ya charlie !
RumbleFox Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 Howdy all. Not been on here in ages. I think, if Vardy is genuinely sorry then this punishment seems just about OK though could be seen as lenient. I do have do take issue with those saying "I never knew the term "Jap" was racist though". I do not think Vardy's use of the term "Jap" would be seen as intrinsically racist had someone said "Hey Vardy, how would you describe that guy over there in terms of race/nationality?". Or, "How would you descsribe someone from Japan Vards, ya know, if you had to?". But, to seemingly choose to describe someone based upon their race does seem a little odd and is, I would say, inappropriate and probably racist. It is just, well, what is the point? Why use a person's race to describe them in the way he did? Why single that out as something to say. It would not even cross mind? Even if he had said "Yo Japanese man walk on" surely that still would have been odd? And possibly in the realms of racist? Some folk are weird. Also, did Vardy know for definite that guy was Japanese? Is he an expert on the differences between people from the many countries of Asia? What does Japanese even mean? Like, if I, as a white man, was born and raised in Japan I would be Japanese would I not? Or, someone born and raised here in the UK but with Japanese parents? Are they "a Jap"? I don't know, it is an issue that is not black and white (oooooh ya racist) but I think he was in the wrong and cannot really be defended. But if it was based more on ignorance than malice, and if he is genuinely sorry then I suppose this is the right step. Just, it is pretty depressing the language some folk still think is OK. Be happy when we get to a point when all this isn't even necessary and none of us feel the need to use something like "Jap" as a descriptive term rather than "Oi mate, walk on". Anyway, what a fookin' result last week!!! Up the Foxes.
