Migrants - What's the answer?

Yes, generally I am a caring chap. I class myself as a humanist ( I'm not religious), I try to help others whenever I can.

I abhor discrimination and I can't stand bullying.

I am (relative to many others) quite wealthy in terms of income, however in terms of average wages I probably earn just a bit above the national average.

I am very much a family man, with a large extended family, I enjoy football, music and travel.

My politics are... Surprise, suprise... Left wing.

Unlike many on here I do not see the words 'left wing' as an insult. I feel the term left wing in politics actually defines 'empathy'.

Your politics may lie elsewhere, maybe you feel you 'lie to the left' as well?

The thing is I am confident and sure in my views and so when a thread like this arises on foxestalk I do feel I need to give my views.

Oh believe me, I appreciate there are those on here that will simply pass off my views as 'Loony Left'. Please credit me with some intelligence.

I do not strive to change their views. People with right wing views tend to be the most entrenched ( In my opinion - thought I better get that in there).

I try to work on the views of those formulating their opinions, I will do this at every opportunity that arises. Because we live in a democracy (please don't try to put that down to some right wing political ethos), I don't need to convince right wing bigots to change their views (imagine trying to change the views of Jeremy Clarkson), I just need to work on getting a majority to support a left wing view.

Will I succeed? Will I fail? At least I tried.

Are you like that bellend Charlie Veitch on youtube by any chance?

Im not putting your views down to loony left, that title is reserved for harmless folk that are usually a bit naive IMO. I think you let the halo slip back there weller and you came across in the same vein as those people you seem to hate. Good luck with your quest, whatever that may be.

Let's summarise:

One of you resorts to calling me a 'bell end'

Another tries the sarcasm approach with implying the 'loony left' are 'harmless folk' that are usually naive (in your 'opinion' of course).

And the last, oh the classic, suggesting my views are entrenched and I'm not 'open' to 'alternative opinions'.

That last one really is the classic.

I am clearly not open to alternative opinions if I find them disagreeable, think about it.

Interesting debate folks, my bed beckons, work tomorrow.

Apologies if my 'entrenched' left wing views offend you?

of course not, if my views offend you, that's your choice. I'm not going to change your view.

Great article by Peter Hitchens, shame it's with the Daily Mail - but sticks to the rhetoric i've been posting in the thread so far.

He's doesnt't go greatly in to detail, but this is the angle everyone should be pushing.

Peter Hitchins finally emulating his brother's intelligence and knack of being spot on.

Not so much offensive as laughable.

You're entitled to entrenched to views because it's impossible that your wrong, whereas others entrenched views just prove that they're slugs.

Your empathy is an example to us all.

Apart from the fact nobody called him a bellend and instead he decides to twist things to suit his agenda lol

To those that say the country is full, are you admitting that maybe the NHS and schools are underfunded?

Yes absolutely, but we have to work with the revenue we have. Are you saying that they aren't?

Well there's been rumours of the NHS being corrupt.

I personally think it's bollocks but still.

The NHS is underfunded and always will be, the people in the medical profession will never get the financial reward that their dedication and hard work deserves from a state owned organisation because we just simply cannot afford it. Adding to the population, with no increase in revenue, is never going to help this.

Schools are a bit different and it's really only the infrastructure and extra staffing that's needed but still, where's the money for that? We can't just keep borrowing and expect future generations to pick up the tab, where and when does it end?

In a week where reports say 22000 police jobs could be lost by 2020, I question where the funding is coming from to house and look after the expected influx. Local authorities are broke.

Some on here will call him a knuckle dragger.. i don't particularly like the bloke but he speaks the hard truth..... but in a frenzy of  "holier than thu"  it will get lost in the mix ..its so much easier to react than think... then repent at leisure...sadly

The government are going to allocate funds from the international aid budget.

But only a one off payment to those local councils that recieve refugees.

So that will work in the short term, but long term the local authority will have to cough up. I get the impression these migrants are here to stay somehow.

I didn't post that to suggest it was a way of resolving the issue of cost to the local authorities and I agree with you, where will the money come from over time?

I've never liked him, he's constantly made a tit of himself on certain issues especially religion - a subject his brother was so erudite forthright, and unrelenting - which is so dearly missed these days.... But on this he is very much spot on.

This all came about because of a picture the papers made sure pulled peoples heart strings. But the mans family said he has lied that he was not living there and had been in Turkey for the last 3 years had an apartment and a job , HIs reasons his sister said was because he wanted free dental treatment.

I think helping the ones really in need should happen but they need to be checked , you also had a young man in his 20s give an interview , he don't want to stay and fight he wants a house , to go to uni and eventually work in a bank. The men that are young and healthy should be made stay and help fight get there country back , the people unable to should be allowed in for now until the all the fighting has stopped.  English  men had to fight in past wars why shouldn't they xx

I highly doubt they'll want to go back after the life we offer them.

There isn't a good answer, but then again we were a root cause of it.

Invading countries and destabilising regions, the problem we caused has now come back to haunt us.

We should have not got involved in others countries, regions issues.

It has lead to 9/11, all other forms of terrorism and now we have a refugee crisis on our hands.

So now we will accept people into our country who might well be anti British because we were a key instigator in causing the problems in their countries the first place.

We don't know how these people think, we don't know if they will integrate, so it is probable we will intensify the mess we are currently in, but within our own country.

Brilliant.

The topic title is a big question and I'm not sure the answers are contained here. In my opinion the government's approach to providing assistance to Syrian REFUGEES looks to be pretty sound If we are providing substantial aid to the refugee camps and admitting families to UK from within those camps .

Totally agree

Unfortunately many that come are going to be very easy fodder for radicalisation

Best plan is house them in temp city's at our expense (because we , Blair, caused a great deal if this ) near home and repatriate once there situation is settled

Mass acceptance of people just isn't possible in the world we live in now , just way too risky
