Aston Villa (home) Post Match Thread 3 - 2

Sat in a St Ives bar, thoroughly annoyed at half time at our worst performances in months. It didn't help that we had a Villa fan jumping about.

Alas the final 20 minutes were sheer joy as it quietly became evident the bar was mostly Leicester fans. Fair play to all three subs excellent.

I was very annoyed with Riyad, he gave the ball for their second and christ that last twenty from him. Amazing

Haha the complaints about the ref make me laugh - the bloke next to me was turning the air blue with what he thought of the ref giving us nothing.

He was ranting loudest just before the linesman flagged for our first goal! Haha for me Villa made a big contribution to their own downfall by taking off Gil.

As for us "kicking" their strivers for sainthood, they should have had a bloke booked in the first few minutes for the first scything tackle of the match, and wasn't it their bloke who tried to pick a fight with Vardy in the second half?

I think sherwood must have had the chance to sign kante in the summer but didn't. With all the players they signed from France and that veretout being on the bench. Bet he was fuming seeing kante when he came on

Villa took the royal piss out of Mike Dean with their time wasting. How could he let them get away with it for so long without dishing a card? It was a horrendous and typical anti-football from Sherwood.

So glad justice was done.

Gone in 60 seconds - Villa fans!

Also why wasn't Guzan sent off for flattening Dyer. Might have been harsh, but clearly took him out and last man?

Said before the game it would be interesting to see how Veretout matched up against out centre midfield, and to see if we'd missed out at all. Seeing that he didn't get on the pitch and Drinkwater and Kante bossed it, I'm going to assume not  :D

lol that is great

Love how some of them are blaming the ref despite the fact he gave them everything pretty much all game.

Oh and calling Vardy overrated when they have Gabby and Gestede up top. You couldn't make it up lol

I like the one bit in particular where one Villa supporter claims that Vardy fouled Bacuna in that penalty incident. lol

Drinkwater was immense today. Pinged a couple of excellent crossfield balls and was in the middle of all of our good moves. I thought Morgan had one of his best games too, dealt with their forwrds far better than Huth did. Kante is a must-start against Stoke, I haven't seen a player break up so many opposition moves since Lennon.

I was surprised Mahrez got so much praise again, from where we were sitting he just seemed to be taking one touch extra all the time and wasn't as effective but maybe expectations are higher after his good start.

Mahrez got praised because he lifted himself from an indifferent first half - when he asked questions but came up with too many wrong answers - and instead of letting it get him down asked still more questions after being helped by the advice of Ranieri, and had a hand in the three goals we scored to win the match.

Oh and 'how does that goal stand?' talking about the winner

Wow what an end to the game. Im on throat sweets today. Inler was poor, lets hope he comes to terms with the pace of the league. Drinky, Mahrez, Morgan and Vardy were incredible.

Ive just seen the post match interview from Sherwood. Practically crying. One comment has really pissed me off and if i was a Villa fan i would be absolutely fuming.

'2-0 up with half an hour to go the game is won.'

EHHHHHHH are you serious? How on earth can anyone say that in any level of football. 30 minutes is a hell of a long time. Sherwood lost them that game with his ridiculous substitutions.

Gil scores to go 2-0 up. Straight away subs him off for a STRIKER  . Clearly Sherwood thought the game was won and thought Ayew could get some gametime. Awful decision. The game isnt won until the final whistle has gone. You cant go against a team with that attitude. Even worse against a Leicester side who after last season proved we have a never say die attitude. Any other manager would have still thought at 2-0 up against Leicester AT THE KING POWER that there was still a chance of us coming back.

Sherwood is an absolute fraud and is loved by the media simply for being English. If he is to be successful he needs to learn the basics. You could see Bacuna was struggling badly and Amavi was getting ran ragged.

Im absolutely delighted we won that game. I will admit at 2-0 down i thought it was just going to be a bad day at the office. Kante and Dyer made the difference. All in all a great weekend to be a Leicester fan and already on 11 points. Incredible.

Yeah, I liked that! Reading that thread was almost as entertaining as the game. Maybe he though Dyer fouled the keeper?

Although, in fairness, there were plenty around me (including me) who weren't sure if it was definitely a goal, although maybe that was down to the hard wired instincts of a Leicester fan not wanting to believe in case it gets snatched away!

lol Reading that makes the victory even sweeter, especially after their arrogance Olé-ing with over 20 minutes to go.

Enjoying a king-size bag of these currently:

Sherwood is a likeable bloke, and it's understandable why the media took to him as he normally comes across very well and gives them what they want. But he was massively out of his depth here. If he thinks that a 2-0 lead with half an hour to go is "game won" then he knows less about football than my seven year old son.

Any other team leading away from home in this situation tends to shut up shop. We saw it last season from Stoke and Palace to name a couple. They were crying out for an extra midfielder, especially after Kante came on. The Villa fans aren't wrong - this defeat was a product of their manager's poor judgement.
