Foxhateram Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 So far he has been well below the standard we need. His choices on the ball have been very suspect it's not just his pace. I wish people would stop touting him as a champions league and international player, he captains an average switzerland side and played sporadically in the champs league with sides that are of a lower ability in the competition. He is miles behind cambiasso. Stop making that comparison. I am sure in time he will be a useful asset. But I really don't see him having the necessary pace of thought for out type of football. He will be useful for when we want to hold possession though.
Finn Claw II Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 Drinkwater has stepped up pushing Inler out of the side. I certainly hadn't imagined that scenario at the start of the season. It is a long season though and Inler will play his part in time. You need options, sometimes that is to keep the ball rather than play on the counter. I bloody love Kante but I have to hope Inler will prove to have better distribution and will be the right player to play in certain games.
ScouseFox Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 I love how just because he isn't fast he isn't good enough Pace is obviously a good asset to have especially with our style of play but whatever happened to a player reading a game? This is a guy who's played champions league, UEFA cups, major world tournaments captianing his country but few appearances and not being very fast and we should be selling him asap Cambiasso wasn't very fast but look at how we loved him! Inler is probably faster than him!? Not sure how much of a pre-season he got at Napoli as Italian league is few weeks behind but I'm sure once he is settle, got some game time and sussed the English game we will all be singing his praises. not being fast isnt a problem, not being fast only becomes a problem if you can't make up for it by being good in other areas. and he's so far shown he's good at absolutely nothing at all since he got here. that's the problem.
Guest Col city fan Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 I think he's great at breaking up play and slowing down the speed of the game by trying to retain possession and that would've come in handy. We were simply overrun in that game and ultimately paid the price for trying to keep up with the Joneses, so to speak.I think it's a good job Inler wasn't in the side against Norwich. How he's played and looked so far, we'd have lost IMO.We didn't lose because we attacked with pace and our midfield defended (along with the back four) resolutely when they had to. I could be wrong, but I can't see Inler fitting how we play. However, it's early days still and maybe he can show us something that he's not showed so far..ie how to keep up with the pace of the Premiership. There is no way I'd consider dropping either Drinkwater or Kante to replace them with Inler, based on what I've seen so far.
st albans fox Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 Inler, like a few who have come here, is probably not at a level of fitness that is required. He needs some time to adjust. It may well be that we and he move ourselves towards each other in styles.
Richard Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 It took Fuchs time to settle and get up to speed but he was superb on Sat. Inler's time will come, Drinkwater/Kante will lose form eventually or we'll switch to 3 in the middle during that tough december/january run
TMELcfc Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 Inler getting cup games will be enough for now, while he adapts to the pace. People are still missing the point about how long he spent in Italy. The football over there is a lot slower compared to here. It even took a player of Cambiasso's class & experience to really cement himself as a crucial player. He was injured and left out just as much as Inler has been so far. Give him a f****** chance before you write him off...
Great Boos Up Posted 5 October 2015 Posted 5 October 2015 In the transfer window I'll admit; I was DESPERATE to sign him. It's just currently our style of play doesn't suit him. No possession, no time, and a quick counter. However, come an injury to Jamie or Danny or Riyad, even N'Golo we may have play a different style later in the season. Keep more ball time and hold a more solid defensive line and perhaps nick a goal. Then we have our man. That is our option in the squad, it's just not for right here, right now. Let's get to 41 points and see what Claudio does then.

I agree with you but I think it's a little rash to make an assumption of the guy before his career has even started here. A lot of the comments on here is that he is not fast so won't suit our style which means nothing really, the position he plays you don't nessisarily have to be a fast player. The guys has barely played since being here so far and just believe it's a little rash to already be looking for him to move on especially with the credentials he has.

katieakita Posted 6 October 2015 Posted 6 October 2015 We can only have 11 on the pitch at any one time and due to the form of others he doesn't warrant a place in the side at the moment that does not make him a bad player just there are other better alternatives at the moment. It is a squad game and he will get a chance so hope he takes it. I was away on Saturday but can imagine FT went into meltdown at around 2 o'clock when the team was announced without Mahrez, was it the right decision? we won which is the idea so clearly it was. Ranieri has been around some time and despite some doubters on here knows a little bit more about the game than us here on FT and has a few tricks up his sleeve and is not afraid to change things during a game. Think we should be happy at the standard of our squad which is certainly stronger than last season and you need a decent squad, DD and Kante look class at the moment and King hasn't done much wrong to lose his starting place but it happens.Even If Cambiasso was still here it would be a big call to put him in the starting 11 at the moment
ozleicester Posted 6 October 2015 Posted 6 October 2015 There will be a time and place in our side for his quality, he doesnt appear to suit how we are playing now, but an away trip to Chelsea or Man City might be right up his street.
Stevosevic Posted 24 October 2015 Posted 24 October 2015 How long do we think this lad will be happy not playing? I am not saying he should be playing, but he would have probably signed expecting a lot more minutes than he has had. Maybe his time will come.
FoxinNotts Posted 24 October 2015 Posted 24 October 2015 He's been a victim of a bad (for him) chain of events. He signed too late to have a full pre season. So he didn't get to start matches. Then Danny and Kante formed a good partnership. So, he'll have to wait his turn. He should be professional enough to realise the situation.
kingpowerout Posted 24 October 2015 Posted 24 October 2015 Lets see how much he wants it by his performance against Hull on Tuesday night
Thracian Posted 24 October 2015 Posted 24 October 2015 I'd imagine Kingy feels worse than Inler. Kingy scored the winner and played like a star in his last game having hardly putting a foot wrong even by Claudio's estimation. The only way Inler will impress is by being ready to take his chance if it comes ...and he's had chances so he's no reason to complain. It doesn't always happen at once. Fuchs had to wait a while yet looks like a gem on today's and other recent form. I don't imagine Inler's happy about the situation - he'd be a strange footballer if he was - but the current team is setting its own standard and the only way to join them is to wait for a vacancy and hope to fill it and make the right impression. Cos Claudio's not going to see a lot wrong with being fifth in the Premiership.
Tuna Posted 24 October 2015 Posted 24 October 2015 He'll be concerned going into a tournament next summer if he's failed to break into the first team by the new year. Of course its up to him to prove himself but with James coming back, can see him going on loan in January possibly to one of the other teams who wanted to sign him in the summer.

Number 6 Posted 24 October 2015 Posted 24 October 2015 He can't have many complaints after watching Kanté and Drinkwater today.
LanguedocFox Posted 24 October 2015 Posted 24 October 2015 He can't have many complaints after watching Kanté and Drinkwater today. I thought they both looked absolute class today. If Drinkwater keeps this up, I can see him playing for England within a season or two.
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 October 2015 Posted 24 October 2015 I thought they both looked absolute class today. If Drinkwater keeps this up, I can see him playing for England within a season or two. I said weeks ago he should be in the England squad now. Today just reinforces that view. He's got more bite and energy than any other English midfielder at present. If he was still playing for Man Utd he'd have already won his first cap.

I don't give a toss what Inler's got in his diary for next summer. His only focus right now should be keeping himself fit and ready for such opportunities as arise and hoping that he does himself sufficient justice to stay involved.
