Inler

Maybe he just thought that as Stoke's threat comes from outwide and kante is our best ball winner then playing him outwide may be an advantage to us..who knows.

It didn't work...but his changes did and we got a solid point.

You're giving him too much credit. He did it because he wanted to fit all three in . He's not the only manager to do it. Most do on occasion. Pearson did it aplenty

Ranieri gave the impression he rated Drinkwater and King.

Yes, I do believe that his aim was to play Kante and Inler and, deep down, may still believe they'll be the first two he'll choose in midfield either sooner or later but I don't think he'll be secretly wishing an injury on anyone - just that he might have been surprised by the quality already in situ at Leicester and concerned about whether Inler can or will adapt and in what timescale.

To me his only defensible choice is to play the people in form and hope everyone else has the maturity to fight for the shirt by taking any chances that come along in the future.

People talk about players being "written off" but I don't feel that way at all. We'll need our squad whatever. I've never been greatly impressed by the notion of rushing people into a team when others are doing an excellent job and don't think anyone is better than anyone else just because they've got a sizeable price tag or have the word "international" on their CV.

Let's be honest, some fans are like kids with a new toy when a new signing arrives and just assume they should be in the team because they believe all the hype and "why would any manager sign worse than what he's got"?

Unfortunately both notions are flawed. And as far as Kante and Inler are concerned, Kante warmed to his slow, structured, introduction by impressing on every occasion, while Inler didn't particularly impress at all.

Indeed I'd rate the collective performances of Kante around 7-7.5 out of 10 which is excellent for a newcomer arriving from abroad while Inler would rate 5-5.5 at best.

That's a big difference and explains why one should be selected for our first team at this time and the other needs to lift and adapt his game considerably,

He needs dropping to the bench to re evaluate his game for this league, i think he came here thinking he was the big name charlie at a small club and everyone would clamour around his superstar status. Unfortunately for him this isnt the case, he is a quality player who will come good in the end im sure. Lets give him a chance before writing him off!

Not at all!

You can't possibly think ranieri feels Kante is our best left winger!? He played on the left of a four man midfield to help Jeff out against a very very good player in Shaqiri with Johnson supporting him as an attacking full back.

As others have said Kante has been monsterous defensively and wins countless tackles.

Granted we looked better when he moved centrally but it's hardly worth criticising. Kante played well enough from the left at Bournemouth.

It was a specific plan that altered mid way through, but he wasn't doing it to 'fit them all in'. It was a tactical decision based on how valuable Kante is defensively.

No I don't think Ranieri thinks Kante is our best left winger. I think he wants him in the team and knows he's best centrally. However, he can't drop DD who is playing well, and he wants to play Inler as he's clearly a good player, a big signing, and he needs games. Hence my point that Ranieri picked square peg round hole. You seriously think he thought Kante would be best wide left?!! Come off it

I think you are spot on and CR is almost willing Inler to get in the team and be a star ...    But he isn't and to be honest doesn't look close at the moment.  King was playing very well and I'm disappointed that he has been dropped.  We could see it coming though with all the local press saying such things as   "Inler - I'm ready !"  ...  the writnig was on the wall.  I wonder if the Mercury will now say  "King - I'm still ready and should not have been dropped !" ...   somehow I doubt it. Andy King is an International too, is often the unsung hero of the team and would undoubtedly help defensively (which would be a big help at the moment ) and still be up there in attack ....    get him in !!

(On a darker note I hope CR isn't subconsciously doing this to slightly unpick NP's team ......   no, course not !)

Of course I don't. You were the one saying he was trying to fit DD inler and Kante in. But I'm saying Kante was picked to help combat Shaqiri and Johnson down that side as opposed to squeezing them all in.

Kind of a square peg in a round hole but deliberately done. He played narrowly and it was done tactically. He didn't play as an out an out winger hugging the touch line.

But yes I agree, difficult to fit them all in and think it's clear for now Kante and DD should be starting as a central two.

I thought he was too pedestrian for most part up until extra-time. Basically just strolled along and let West Ham midfielders get past him with ease.

His performance in the 30 extra minutes was a different kettle of fish, though. He came up with a couple of lovely blocks - but he needs to work on his long shots, I counted five to six lacklustre attempts on goal.

If he stops attempting to shoot (and leave it to King, if he plays) and focus on his defensive side - he'll improve.

You won't be saying that when he rockets one in, he's built a career on unbelievable finishes. He's just getting his eye in, he'll probably miss a lot but if he gets 4-5 bull hammers a season then fcuk it

Kingy and Kante absolutely bossed the game during extra-time and there was so much understanding among the players during that spell that West Ham were carved apart for what would been a goals avalanche if it hadn't been for their goalkeeper and finishing that was so bad one of our fans thought we might be missing on purpose.

Ranieri must be so proud. Maybe we'll take the Cup even more seriously now although I wonder if our second team defence is better than the first and if the pairing of Kante and King is about as good as it gets. It was just so good to see the latter in attacking mode again.

Could you please continue your usual "Kingy Love-Fest" in the post-match thread, T? lol

He's made a career out of long shots, in the biggest stages. So ironic that these sentiments have weight to them. Inler will come good.

Thought Inler played ok today – but his passing was awful in the first 45 minutes.

Not worried though, as it's all clearly just down to bedding down. His positional sense was excellent and his tackling good.

The passing is to do with finding rhythm and getting used to the players around him – and them to him.

I think it's more conflict of styles, besides he joined in pretty poor form at Napoli so he'll obviously need a lot more time. Anybody expecting him to click yet is living in a dreamland.

Rubbish.

A 'class' player is a 'class' player.

How much time did Sanchez need to adjust at Arsenal? Oscar at Chelsea? Matic? DeBryune will slot straight in at Man City.

Class is permanent. If Inler is that good he should be pulling the strings and simply looking class now. He could improve with us and hopefully will. But don't get fooled by this 'He'll need ages to adjust' nonsense. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Inler joined us on the back of real excitement for many of our fans. So far, he's been disappointing.

Don't get me started on Cambiasso. It'll end in tears (or bans)...

Harsh but fair in terms of his current level of performance, I do think though he'll begin to gel and does possess class. I think the likes of Benny, Drinks, Fuchs, King, De Laet, Was, drift in and out of the squad in accordance with our playing style and how it fits their skills. Inler will be no different and it really is a different pace of game to Serie A.
