August 1972. Weller 3 Toshack 2. We trailed Liverpool 2-0 at half time due to two goals from John Toshack but a brilliant second half hat-trick from Keith Weller under the Filbert Street lights gave us one of our best ever comeback victories. Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end............

The 1995 comeback at Villa Park was remarkable in that we scored 3 goals in the last 13 minutes, after being 4-1 down.

Probably not the greatest comeback but the Craig Hignett equaliser against the invincible Arsenal team was special - it was a great action packed game, remember Ashley Cole getting sent off and the great scenes at the Walkers Stadium when we equalised.

Rather typically the majority are going for the recent Man Utd result (combination of short memories and younger posters), but that was probably against the worst Man Utd team in a couple of decades. So for me it's 3-3 against Arsenal, for the reverse reason that that was one of the best Arsenal teams.

My favourite "live" comeback-City vs Man. City in the 4th round FA Cup replay, 1968.

2-0 down after about 10 minutes, Fern gets one back just before half-time. Two goals from Frank Large and another from Nish to make it 4-2. Colin Bell got one back for them to make it 4-3.

We hung on like grim death to beat the champions of that season.

42, 000 and a great atmosphere at FB. If you were there you'd never forget it.

Although it ended in tears the comeback against Swindon in the Play Off final was incredible. Never been as gutted as when we eventually (robbed) lost that match. :( On a more positive not the Arsenal comeback takes some beating, what a ****ing match that was, had everything.

Yep, there is just something about that match, maybe it was because I was still young, or the fact it was at wembley, the way steve thompson just rolled that ball into the corner.

In terms of games we got something out of, the drama of the arsenal game, 3-3 was special, again maybe with it being under the lights etc and having fond memories of Filbert St.

In the context of things tho, last season at west brom, was still the best for sheer carnage in the stands.

Infact is the WBA even an option, poor poll

Swindon in the play off final was the BIGGEST roller - coaster of a game I've ever been to.

Tears were cried of joy...then sorrow.

Still grates now...

The poll is therefore duff..

This.

3-0 down and mate said to me 'I just want to see us score a goal at Wembley' (we'd failed to score in the previous 2 visits).

Cue comeback, when the 3rd went in I was incoherent, just screaming with joy.

Then Thompson missed a chance and I knew we'd lose.

1982 FA Cup 5th Round vs Shrewsbury. 2-1 down Mark Wallington off injured in the days of just an outfield sub,Alan Young goes in goal then gets injured, Steve Lynex then in goal as we play with 10 men briefly, then Youngy recovers enough to come back on and go back in goal with Lynex back on the wing. Won 5-2 with the superb Jim Melrose who was our sub getting 2..

One of those I was their games.

Man Utd game or Swindon in the play-off final. Even for someone who doesn't remember it at the time I can watch that Swindon one over and over again. 'It's unbelievable stuff now!'

Of course the Arsenal one in 97 was ridiculous.

One that I'm sure hasn't been mentioned yet which was great at the time was Bristol Rovers in league 1. 1-0 down with a minute to go and Fryatt pops up with 2!

Shame that was never filmed.

i remember one in League One.

We were 1-0 down against Bristol Rovers on 90 minutes and Matty Fryatt scored twice in injury time to win 2-1.

That was the game I felt like we were going up and Pearson was onto something.

FFS lol I was sure nobody would think of that one!

The reason I didn't put the Swindon game in was because we didn't actually get anything at the end; we still lost. But, evidently my train of thought is a little bit wrong!

Also, honestly do not know how I have forgot the West Brom game! Maybe because the end of that season is just a blur of emotions!

That says more about how good United have been the previous 20 years than it says about their side last September. Didn't they have Rooney Van Persie Falcao and Di Maria on the pitch at the same time?

I'm old enough to remember the Arsenal game; I remember listening to it on the radio and jumping up and down and screaming around the living room when Walsh's goal went in, and have held that memory dear for the last 18 years. It will still never be forgotten.

I agree that it was one of the worst Man Utd teams, but in context of the time it was also their most expensive - Di Maria himself was probably "worth" more than our entire transfer history all together. Their XI cost around £200m to compile compared to ours at £15m, and that's not including what they spent on acquiring Falcao. Also, they'd just beaten QPR 4-0 and the general hubbub in the press was that they were back to their best. All this, plus the manner of the comeback will always mean a lot to people - check out the One Year Ago Today thread to see what it meant to so many people:

Edit:

Wasn't far off...

my best mate is a bristol rovers fan and sat in our kop with me watching that. a pretty painful 89 minutes followed by a superbly fun 5 minutes and evening :D still dont let him forget that we did the double over them that season (two last minute goals at home and they missed a penalty in the away game, ouch) and that 6 years ago we were in the same league but last year we were 4 leagues apart lol

wasn't it one of the most expensive teams ever assembled? and we won instead of drawing? falcao, rooney, di maria and rvp all started up front and were all collectively outshone by non league jamie vardy man. short memories, young posters whatever you want to call it that was an unbelievable game and a better comeback simply cos we won, surely.

Probably the greatest atmosphere I ever experienced at Filbert Street. Stood in the popular side as couldn't get in the Kop. Man city had drawn at home in the third round and won the replay away 7-0. Bury I think. I can still see their fans in the away corner of the double decker singing like the game was over. What a 20 minutes before and after half time. The first time I was ever in tears at the final whistle! (next time was 1994 Wembley) The emotion in the crowd that 1968 night was unbelievable. Standing, crammed in, almost touching the players, unfortunately never happen again with seated stadia.

Keith Weller's hat trick against Liverpool in was brilliant, but I personally think cup fight backs are extra special, particularly if you were brought up in an era supporting a team who for 10 years averaged getting to the sixth round at least.
