Guest CityFan 06 Posted 7 January 2016 Posted 7 January 2016 I think Fuchs and Inler take good free kicks from what I've seen previously. Fuchs and Mahrez have both come close to scoring a few.
biggs Posted 7 January 2016 Posted 7 January 2016 Off corners, most of the time we lob the ball into the mix. I'd like to see our corners flicked on before the near post......it's about the only time I think we have a chance of scoring. Huth and Morgan always move up and get their chances but rarely on target. A flick from the near post causes problems for any keeper and defence
NewEnglandFox Posted 7 January 2016 Posted 7 January 2016 We draw very few fouls around the box. But we compensate for it by drawing the most fouls in the box. We also have the personnel that are good enough to go for it if the opportunity arises. So I'm not concerned by this drought. I do however wish we had better target's on our team for free kicks and corners. We have a good one but he spends a lot of time on the bench which makes our #1 and #2 targets the CBs.
Sampson Posted 7 January 2016 Posted 7 January 2016 I can remember De Laet scoring from a corner vs Villa and Mahrez vs Swansea off the top of my head. Not sure if we've scored any more, but I think our corners have been ok this season for the most part, certainly much improved on last season. Also, didn't Vardy score a header from a free-kick vs Sunderland on the opening day? Can't think of a direct free-kick since the Knockaert one though.

jammie82uk Posted 7 January 2016 Posted 7 January 2016 Just show the opposition this video and just let huth take the kick https://www.facebook.com/fuchslfanseite/videos/10153835974936202/
Zapp Posted 7 January 2016 Posted 7 January 2016 Fuchs free kick taking stats are immense on Fifa If he wasn't so gentlemanly letting mahrez take most of them he'd have banged a couple in by now
Vlad the Fox Posted 7 January 2016 Posted 7 January 2016 I'm sure I saw a stat during one of our games recently showing that we're the third most successful team from set pieces this season with 8 goals, I think palace were top. I found this had to believe, did anyone else see it or was a dream?

I found this had to believe, did anyone else see it or was a dream? can only assume they're including penalties in that as a set piece. We got two goals from free kicks vs sunderland and mahrez got one against swansea from a corner. Apart from those three though, cant think of any others
StanSP Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Cambiasso came close v Man City last season. is that where he tried to catch Hart out from about 35 yards out?
Collymore Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 is that where he tried to catch Hart out from about 35 yards out? ...with the thumbs up

I think without the pens we'd have been bottom haha.
IsItMuzzy Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Didn't Cambiasso score a low free kick last season?
itsaknockeart Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Scored three from set pieces this season, conceded seven. Not a surprise given the make-up of our team: http://objective-football.blogspot.com.es/2015/08/201516-open-play-set-piece-data.html
Stevosevic Posted 7 April 2016 Author Posted 7 April 2016 Now more than 2 years since AKs free kick against Sheffield Wednesday. Surely this is some sort of record?

We also have the personnel that are good enough to go for it if the opportunity arises. So I'm not concerned by this drought. That's because we don't dick around with it on the edge of the area, we just get it into the box as quickly as possible.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 We are so technically inept at free kicks that result in a shot at goal I now just see them as good for a breather for Kante, Okazaki ect. Same with opposition corners, I used to be scared shitless we would concede but now defense is so good at defending crosses now I'm supremely confident we will defend it.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 I actually think we've got some decent free kick takers in our squad. Fuchs, Inler and Mahrez are the three who come to mind. I know they're not scoring them at the moment but I get the impression the abilities are there. On a more general note though I've got a feeling we'll see a Fuchs/Simpson goal before the end of the season. I'd like either of them to score given how well they've done for us, and the effort they put in every match.
biggs Posted 8 April 2016 Posted 8 April 2016 A freekick in a scoring position, we really are at our worst. I honestly have higher expectations when Fuchs takes a long throw in
Koke Posted 8 April 2016 Posted 8 April 2016 2 full years without scoring a free kick is quite some stat. Bring back Gallagher. I liked his pens too.
erlee Posted 8 April 2016 Posted 8 April 2016 2 full years without scoring a free kick is quite some stat. Bring back Gallagher. I liked his pens too. wow that long?.... i think Fuchs should take it. Mahrez is only good for short range FK - like just outside the box.
lee7 Posted 8 April 2016 Posted 8 April 2016 I've been saying for a while now that I'm shocked we never look likely to score from a direct free kick. Especially when you see players like Payet banging them in for fun at West Ham. If it was down to me I'd be letting Fuchs have a go rather than Mahrez.
Fox92 Posted 8 April 2016 Posted 8 April 2016 I agree RE Fuchs. Let him have a go. He joined with a reputation for scoring free kicks didn't he? That's why I don't understand he hasn't taken one. That said, so did Abe, and I don't think he ever took one either.
