Palace Post Match Thread 1 - 0

For me Leicester needed a game like this. To prove to themselves they can play a tight game without giving up a goal. Besides Vardy's goal I was most impressed with the defense, they needed to show they can play as a cohesive unit; solid and unbreaking. It's a nice change from playing on the edge most of the season. I hope they can continue and improve on this play. We have a real opportunity these next 3 matches to solidify ourselves as a dangereous team to be feared.

I'd prefer him a lot more on the pitch if he played the ****ing ball forward once or twice

Don't think that was his main objective today, he was there to stop their plethora of tricky wingers from getting in behind and he did it perfectly. Only mistake I can remember was that overhead clearance that went straight to one of their lot.

Palace mate crying about 2 'nailed on pens' they should have had. Didn't watch the game so does he have a case?

Zaha was a dive. He had no intention of beating the players. He even did a flick of his right leg as he went down. However, clear handball by Fuchs

Really impressed with Simpson today, not the nicest character off the pitch but hard to argue that he isn't our best option at RB at the moment. Also love Fuchs, Kante and DD unreal yet again, happy bloody days!:D

Disagree. Still see him as a 'relative' real weak link and the last 20minutes palace tried to exploit it. Does not release the ball quick enough and the reason why albrighton struggled to get into the game at times. Undoubtedly gives his all and credit to him for that. But of limited ability compared to the rest of them. Which just shows how far we have moved on. Suppose it doesn't help him that the full back on the left is Fuch'n world class.

Followed city since the early 80s. We've had some good managers and we've had some bad managers.

But I don't think we've ever had such a brilliant tactician as Claudio Ranieri. He gets the tactics right and his subs are always spot on.

He didn't need to be bombing forward the whole time but every time he had the ball he passed it backwards our greatest threat is speed on the break and today Simpson never looked for that forward pass to release our attacking players.

The BBC write up calling it a poor game, thought it was a cracking first half to be fair. Not a lot of outright chances but we played some terrific football. Can only assume it was written by a palace fan.

Personally felt it was one of more complete performances of the season. Our midfield were excellent against a much praised midfield unit.

As for Palace, I thought they would be more of a plan B than stick lots of tall players on and hoof that ball in.

I thought it a terrific tactical battle, for all the dearth of chances and goalmouth incidents.

It was like two quality boxers sparring at times. Each jabbing this way and that in the hope of finding an opening.

Ranieri knew he had to either win the defensive headers from free-kicks and corners or stop the supply of crosses and what a splendid job he did.

I wonder how long it is since Palace had so few chances? A good while I'd guess.

We were so effective, a recording of the game could be used as a blueprint for coaches because our approach in doubling up to prevent crosses and denying big players space to jump and room to move into space was so well relentlessly and effectively executed.

How many crosses, challenged or unchallenged,  did Palace deliver and how many times did their quick, strong, attackers get behind our backline?

Very few and not often.

That didn't amount to a poor game but a really fascinating contest which we deserved credit for winning in such a clever manner.

Just because the BBC didn't see it as "box office" perhaps says more for the BBC's needs than the fans.

Poor that Leicester needs silly clapper and a tannoy to make an atmosphere

How else would you make an announcement then?.

Palace were effective in nullifying our threat in the break, Hangeland and Dann played so deep it was hard to get in behind and most of our through balls were mopped up, we tried a few aerial balls and got little joy there too, but I do think they were so worried about us they played so much deeper as a team and that meant they struggled to get much decent service to their forwards.

Couldn't care less what they think of our atmosphere, theirs is driven by the tannoy more than anywhere else.

When they score their tannoy announces the player's first name then they all shout his surname ffs. Worst away fans at our place this season.

That's the way I saw it too. Zaha looked intent on connecting with anything that would help him over.

And suddenly, I don't feel so enthusiastic with the prospect of us finishing 5th...

We are not gonna finish 5th! Coz things are only gonna get betterrrrrrrrrrrrr!

For me the midfield worked so hard to gain possession but then gave it away too easily at times.

Albrighton was worst in this respect lofting far too many aerial crosses that had no chance of being collected.

And Drinkwater was like a souped up version of Inler at times.

He did so much right and was always involved.

But too often he searched for the longer, more difficult pass without properly checking the radar.

The long pass can be a good one - especially with the pace we've got.

But it has to be hit like Alan Hinton or Davie Gibson. Either really hard and unerring or with the inch-perfect spin of a Ballesteros eight-iron. Otherwise it's so easily wasted.

Danny can do it, I'm sure, but it's not right yet. He needs to see the big picture as well as the team-mate.

They're still peeved at what Zelko Kalac did to them at Wembley without even touching the ball! Today Vards just reopened old wounds.

Excellent performance in an very difficult game. I felt it was quite scrappy mainly due to the weather conditions, also I felt both teams were trying to play same way and cause of that they were cancelling each other out alot of times. Great work from Mahrez to set up Vardy's goal.

Well did I read the score board right!? we kept a clean sheet!? bring in the pizza claudio!

Took my girlfriend today who is a Derby fan, she seemed quite impressed with Leicester.

Not the best of games, Schlupp looked knackered 2nd half, was surprised he took Mahrez off instead of him. I get Schlupp offers more going back but not when he's on his arse. Kante and Drinkwater played well, just need Danny to take a step forward with the ball! vardy his usual self. brilliant.

Very equal game. We edged it with Vardy and some great defending at the end. Would really like to see Dyer feature more though. Their fans were a total letdown.
