RIP Jonah Lomu

RIP.

Monster of a player in his prime and time

I remember an interviewer asking Will Carling after a game what it's going to take to stop him?

"An elephant gun" came the reply.

Two huge losses for NZ rugby this year, both so young.

So sad and a true gent, he seems to be in really good form in the UK and in interviews over the RWC so couldnt believe waking up to this.

I remember as a kid watching him play and feeling the same about him as I did about Brazilian Ronaldo, both out of this world.

He got to see a NZ retain the World Cup at least, would have made things even more devastating if not.

RIP Jonah. :(

Absolutely gutting. Genuinely completely stunned.

He's been ill for a very long time, knew he was ill and kept it from his coaches and team mates because he couldn't face being held back in his career. Absolute giant of the game in every sense and the most gentle of souls off the field.

One of the best players of all time despite the disease, tragic to think what more he could have accomplished without it.

Devastating. Rest in peace Jonah.

Sad news.

Ive noticed nowhere states how he actually died. Did he have an illness?

Yeah, he'd been ill with a kidney disease for most of his career but it finally forced him in to, first, a sabbatical for treatment and then, finally, early retirement.

His body rejected a latest kidney transplant a few years ago. Even so, this was still pretty sudden.

Such a shame. He was a true great for Rugby.

That match against England in 1995 will be one of the ironic moments in the game - a true legend.

He only just arrived back home from the UK the other day..

So sad and sudden.

If you get the chance, do try and watch him on 'my sporting hero's' on Sky catch up over the next 30 days. I just watched it tonight and was nearly in tears at times hearing how he dealt with his illness. What a bloke, what a player, what an inspiration. A true legend and so sad he passed away so young. Will be remembered forever. RIP
