Crazy Stat Time!

Recommended Posts

Can any one confirm: when we won the league, I remember hearing that this wasn' just the first time we won the league but the first time we had finished as the top Midland club for 55 years. We are looking likely to finish as the top Midland club again, and think that, in itself, is worthy of acknowledgement!

Vardy's penalty party

Jamie Vardy was brought down in the box by Watford's Molla Wague - and the England striker converted

No player has won more Premier League penalties than Jamie Vardy since the Leicester striker arrived in England's top flight in August 2014.

In fact, he's close to the record - only one player has won more spot-kicks in the time since statisticians Opta began collecting data on tumbles in the box in the 2003-04 season.

That is former Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham and England striker Andy Johnson - who earned 14 Premier League penalties. Johnson made his top-flight debut in 2004 and retired in 2015.

Most penalties won in Premier League since 2003-04
Andy Johnson 14
Jamie Vardy 13
Luis Suarez 13
Gabriel Agbonlahor 13
Raheem Sterling 12
Ashley Young 12
Peter Crouch 11
Darren Bent 11
Aaron Lennon 10
David Silva 10

Vardy was awarded a spot-kick for the third time this season as Leicester beat Watford 2-0 on Saturday - and a few hours later Raheem Sterling moved on to four penalties won as Manchester City beat Newcastle 3-1.

That puts Sterling top of the rankings this term - and, as you can see from the table above, he might yet rival Vardy for the overall crown, too.

Most penalties won this Premier League season
Raheem Sterling 4
Dominic Calvert-Lewin 3
Jamie Vardy 3
Wilfried Zaha 3
Aaron Ramsey 2
Glenn Murray 2
Aaron Lennon 2
Richarlison 2

Sure we did it a few times under O'Neil.

Edit: Just checked, Villa finished above us every season. You could well be right.

We still have more players in our squad with a Premier League winners medal than any other team despite Chelsea nicking two off us.

City 13, Chelsea 12, Man City 5, Man U 3, Liverpool & West Ham 2, Arsenal, Bournemouth, Burnley, Palace, Stoke, Swansea, Watford & WBA all with one. Can't see any at Spurs.

I make it 13 in the Chelsea squad.

Alonso, Fabregas, Drinkwater, Kante, Hazard, Pedro, Courtois, Moses, Willian, Batshuayi, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Luiz.

Also Man U have 5.

De Gea, Jones, Carrick, Young and Matic .

And Liverpool 3

Milner, Salah, Sturridge

As are West Ham

Zabaleta, Hart and Hernandez

Kelechi Iheanacho helped himself to a double in Leicester City's 5-1 rout of Peterborough in the FA Cup on Saturday.

In doing so, the Foxes number eight broke a record previously held by Yakubu Aiyegbeni, as he took his tally in the prestigious competition to nine goals in nine appearances.

Ex-Super Eagle Yakubu notched 8 goals in 20 appearances in the FA Cup wearing the jerseys of Reading, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth.

While it took the retired Nigeria international ten years to score eight goals in the FA Cup, Iheanacho became Nigeria's leading scorer in the FA Cup after only two years.

With 6 goals from 29 matches, Chelsea right wing-back Victor Moses is the third highest Nigerian scorer in the FA Cup, an honour he shares with ex-Arsenal star Nwanwko Kanu.

Top Ten Nigeria's Top Scorer In The FA Cup

1) Kelechi Iheanacho - 9 goals, 9 matches
2) Yakubu Aiyegbeni - 8 goals, 20 matches
3) Victor Moses - 6 goals, 29 matches
     Nwankwo Kanu - 6 goals, 24 matches
5) Victor Anichebe - 4 goals, 21 matches
     Danny Shittu  - 4 goals, 12 matches
     Emmanuel Emenike - 4 goals, 6 matches
8)  Kayode Odejayi - 3 goals, 26 matches
     Obi Mikel   - 3 goals, 32 matches
10) Victor Obinna, 3 goals, 3 matches

Jamie Vardy is the first ever player to score against Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Man Utd and Man City in the same season.

He's also scored in the last 4 consecutive games - his longest scoring streak since he broke the record.

He only cost us £1m.

What a ****ing legend.

It’s an odd stat really, because no-one one the “Top 6” can achieve this feat?!

Man City weren’t in the league for a chunk of that so it is a pretty tough thing to achieve.

If it stays as it is will Vardy be the first player to have scored against the top 6 teams in the league? 7 if Everton finish 7th

As far as I'm aware on Mo Salah of the players in the top 6 still has a chance this season to adore against the other 5. (Needs a goal vs Man United)

How many millions of pounds worth of strikers between them??

Some things that comfort me tonight after today's dreadful second half performance:

Before today, our aggregate record against Man City in the Premier League since 15/16 was 9-7 (0-0, 3-1, 4-2, 1-2, 0-2).

Our Premier League win was by a margin of 10 points. That's FIVE times bigger than Man City's two previous Premier League titles (0 in 2012, 2 in 2014).

We finished 15 points ahead of Man City in 2015/16. They're currently 16 points ahead of their nearest competitor. They've spent £500m since then.

I wanted to check the “half a billion spent by Man City” which we have all (me included) been using.

Transfermarkt says:

2017/18

315.8 million Euros spent

95.6 m Euros received

Net = 220.2

2016/17

213 million Euros spent

35 million Euros received

Net = 178

Total net spend = 398m Euros.

At today’s rates, converts to £350m

So we’ve maybe been slightly over egging the pudding.

They’ve still bought the league (when we won it with teamwork) and their fans are terribly quiet and quietly terrible, so screw them.
