Izzy Posted 17 December 2015 Posted 17 December 2015 I expect it was your broad East Midlands accent that confused him. Yeah, maybe I shouldn't have started the call with 'eh up me duck'
joedawg Posted 17 December 2015 Posted 17 December 2015 Odd, all the Italians I've met have mentioned Ranieri incredibly quickly. I really want to see some lcfc shirts on some people from far flung places, simply because it's Leicester. United, Arsenal, Chelsea all from big and impressive cities -- and Leicester, with the magnificent National Space Centre and the High Cross. That said, met plenty of Fijians who know about Leicester because of the Tigers - still, Rugby is hardly as global as football. You are correct about footballs rep although both the rugby and football teams playing well at the moment isn't doing the city any harm! Was in New Zealand in the summer and they all knew about Leicester because of the tigers, only met one person out there who knew about City, said we were dead certain to go down, Villa fan as it goes...

leicsmac Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 EPL gets shown all the time in Korea and as we're currently top there's been one or two features about LCFC on the leading sport channel here. Not got to the stage where I can walk into a class, ask about Leicester and everyone would be able to pipe up ala ManYoo, but it's getting better.
KievFox Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Friends over here in Kiev talking about LCFC, but there fav UK club is still Chelski, only because Shevchenko played for them. Dangerous going to watch Dynamo Kiev play wearing anything but a Dynamo Kiev shirt. Ultras are fcuk'd up here.
Merging Cultures Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 I get messages from across Africa on match days. When people ask where I'm from, they now know Leicester. It's exciting times!
MadKaw Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 2 and 3 years ago my kids would get bagged out when wearing their Leicester shirts, now all there mates think they know more about them than we do.. I wear my old Walkers Jersey's every so often to confuse ppl... Only ever seen 2 other Jersey over here, one was a year or so ago, a kid at a bistro who's dad bought it for him on a trip to Leicester, he had no idea about them. The other was at a Western Sydney Wanderers game last week, we had a chat and he was another Leicester lad. Got heckled wearing mine the other week from a couple of Man u supporters singing "who the f#@$ are Leicester" at me - its good to be known..! :-) Can't get any gear in shops over here, and most ppl think its just a flash in the pan - but we're making the most of it..... :-)
yankeeFOXott Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Living in Canada, and still keeping my eye on sports media from the states; I would agree that those that follow sport in general now know this team. Defeating Chelsea the other night was one of the top headlines on the ESPN website, as was Vardy's breaking Van Nistelrooy's goal streak. This is very rare for anything not related specifically to North American sport, and especially rare that a football related story is even one of the headlines. Though the US version of ESPN does cover European football; it's certainly not usually in the headlines. My friends that know I support Leicester have been asking me about the team more frequently, but most of them have at least a general knowledge of the Premier League, so I guess that's not too surprising. That being said, here in Ottawa, or anywhere else I've been in Canada or the states for that matter; I've yet to see someone else wearing anything Foxes related, or have anyone comment on my shirt. However, my wife basically had to sell the rights to our unborn child to even get me a shirt, so I'm not shocked. Interestingly, when I was in Brazil a couple weeks back, wearing my shirt on matchday someone did say something to the effect that he liked it, but the conversation didn't go any further once he realised my Portuguese was crap. Anyhow, with success will come more international followers, which should in turn mean more sales of merchandise globally, and more money for the team. Overall, it seems things are going in the right direction as far as gaining more recognition internationally.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Wore an 03/04 Leicester shirt in America back in March & had a couple of guys ask if they're the team that beat Man United 5-3. When I told them I was there they were like "No way, that's Osum!".
MC Prussian Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 I think the official LCFC Facebook page is a good indicator of how much we've grown in the space of only two years. You can find fans from Italy, Spain, Germany, Thailand, Japan, China, the Philippines, the US, Canada on there... ... and of course, all those bloody and highly irritating Algerians with their Mahrez Love!!!
sylofox Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 People in Norfolk know who we are now. Sadly Suffolk will take another 10years.
les-tah Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 It wasn't to long ago kids used to fight about being Junior Lewis on the park. times have changed.
joedawg Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 But hes the the one...Down under, just like his team......wuffGold
tom27111 Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Met someone for the first time yesterday, he overheard me talking about Mourinho being sacked and said "I'm not surprised, they lost to f****** Leicester haha who loses to Leicester? If you put money on that you'd have made a packet, nobody would have been stupid enough to put that bet on." I looked him right in the eye and said "I'm a Leicester fan. And actually quite a lot of teams lose to us now, we're top of the league and only lost once all season. Do you know anything about football?" The look on his face as everyone just looked at him and laughed was priceless.
4fuxsake Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Here in Sydney, surrounded by Liverpool supporters (about 20 of them, I'm the odd one out). Quietly shitting themselves due to the upcoming fixture. Would like a convincing 2-0 win. Everybody taking notice of us and vardy now that we a top.
leicsmac Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Korean featurette on Vardy on the main sport channel over here. We are massive.
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 I had a Google hangout session today with a prospective client based in Milan. We did the small talk bit first and he follows Inter home and away each week (so I assumed he knew his stuff). He asked me where I was based and when i said "just outside of London" he replied "so I guess you follow Arsenal, Spurs or Chelsea then?" I said, "well actually I'm originally from a city in the middle of England called Leicester so I follow them, and believe it or not we're top of the premier league!" I then waited for the gushing praise and reference to Ranieri but instead I got: "Leicester? no I'm not familiar with them..." followed by an awkward pregnant pause. So I guess we're not big in Milan quite yet! I suspect that because the Italians I've met think it is pronounced Lie-chester. Give that a go next time
americanfox Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Wore an 03/04 Leicester shirt in America back in March & had a couple of guys ask if they're the team that beat Man United 5-3. When I told them I was there they were like "No way, that's Osum!". Wore my Cambiasso kit on Monday when I played hooky and watched the match during late afternoon (I'm in East Coast US), bartender confused me for a Chelski supporter. I responded, "well they are relegation favourites now".
Bazly Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 I think the summer is going to be the biggest indicator when we venture abroad on holiday Are you really planning to head as far as Derby?
Langley Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 Have they heard about us in Hull yet? Haven't you heard? They know what they are. They're the city of culture...
bovril Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 For the first time ever, when I tell people my team I get asked "yeah but how long have you supported them?".
Richard Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 For the first time ever, when I tell people my team I get asked "yeah but how long have you supported them?".I genuinely got asked yesterday if I was a glory-supporting Leicester fan...Never did I think...
TeamRocket Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 I know Bolton aint global but I remember when I 1st moved up here i was wearing my lcfc kit and a couple of guys came up to me and said we're sh!t lmao was with the wife so just said were above you and walked off didnt wanna kick off and last week they came in where I work n couldnt stop going on how good we are love being a Leicester fan
Jordan Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 One thing I've noticed this season (and this seems to be corroborated by a few anecdotes here) is that Americans are not the only people that think Leicester is pronounced "LIE-Chester." I've heard Albanian, French, and Portuguese people say it that way.
-MaTaN- Posted 18 December 2015 Posted 18 December 2015 In Israel it's just insane.Israel is a country of football. Our local league is so bad, And some of the big teams (Like Maccabi Haifa and Beitar) are really bad, and because of it a lot of football fans are watching other leagues.A lot of 'em are fans of Barca, Real and Bayern, But the majority of them are fans of the EPL. You have a lot of Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea over here. A lot!So the EPL is the biggst league people are looking up to, And with the recent success, You can see a lot of people talking about Leicester almost everywhere, Mostly about Vardy and Mahrez. Here's something that the main channel who is broadcasting premier league matches showed before the game againt Man United: (WATCH IT!) https://www.facebook.com/sharon.davidovitch/videos/962538400460474/ I also was a guest in several TV shows as a Leicester fan and i helped some writers doing their research about us. Every football fan in Israel knows who is Leicester City and can name at least 2-3 players that we have.
