Look who's changing his opinion as often as others do their underwear. Surprise...

Tbf, once a month isn't very often..

Nah. Not having that. You can only base judgement on what you see. And over the last two performances I've seen where Inler can contribute. Until then I'd not seen much at all.

This thing about getting up to speed is nonsense too imo. How long has it taken Kante or Fuchs?

Inler is growing on me a little now. I can see where MC was coming from.

"Getting up to speed"- depends on which league you came from, surely?

Transfers from Italy and Croatia(?) seem particularly difficult.

I doubt you'd find a single manager who agreed with you.

I even compliment you and get flak! Can you not help yourself? lol

Two things for me.. class is class. Someone who is 'class' shouldn't take long to 'get up to speed'. Inler could have just as easily come into the side and looked a class above, as not. IMO.

Second...I'm saying in the last two games I've seen signs of improvement. Not that I'm yet to be won over..I'm not.

It's the formation that's accommodating him, not some sudden upturn in form. I still wouldn't fancy him in a 4-4-2. In a midfield three where he's got more time, he looks better. Ring any bells?

Gray came into the side having only played at a lower level. Yet looked to slot in lovely. How long will it take him to 'get up to speed' I wonder?

The midfield three is what's accommodating Inler. Clear as daylight.

Thus...I would keep him for when we play that way.

Gray has played about 65 minutes. Even if he settles in brilliantly, just because it worked for him doesn't mean it will work the same for someone else.

Did Vardy settle in straight away? Drinkwater? I'd say not. Did Mahrez and Fuchs, yes they did. Fuchs I might add has been a Leicester player for two and a half months longer than Inler. Had a pre season here, the chance to have him and his family settled quicker etc.

You could go through any team from the last 20 years and pick out players who were instant, players who took a bit of time. He might end up never really settling or fitting in, but it's not rubbish that players can take time for a huge number of different reasons.

Perhaps you are expecting far too much. If the bloke was still absolutely amazing he wouldn't be here even at 31, for me you're shuffling the baggage you have about Cambiasso and the stick you got onto him unfairly.

Inler was fine in a four for the whole second half wasn't he... when we were much improved over the first half 5 in the middle?

The argument between Kanté and Inler often neglects the fact that Kanté was signed two weeks prior to Inler and thus had two more weeks to get to know the environment, his team, the training facilities, etc.

"Getting up to speed" so to speak.

Even though both missed out on pre-season, that's somewhat of an advantage.

Let's not forget transfer negotiations allegedly took longer than expected in the case of Inler - who knows, he could've joined and settled in earlier.

Have a day off, for Christ's sake.

Gray has played about 80 games of English Football, where the game is played at a far higher tempo. Just watch one game of Serie A, it's almost a totally different sport.

Good game from Inler yesterday, some great passing ability and thought he looked every bit a player that could be useful for us for the rest of the season.

I think many were too quick to judge, although perhaps is true of those now trying to suggest the doubters were wrong.

He has great ability and perhaps needed some games under his belt to get to grips with the pace, but also to build his confidence.

I hope he builds on that performance and a lot of those who after only a handful of games wrote him off, will be the first to say they were wrong... (doubtful)

We still have to go away to Spurs, Man City, Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea. CR may be thinking of going for 3 in midfield for these tough away games, even if it's just to stay in the game for 60 mins, then look at changing things. Inler will get better the more he plays. He was good yesterday, I hope he stays and fights for his place.

This

It's pretty unrealistic to expect all signings to settle in immediately, different players take different lengths of time.

It took our players 6 months to get to grips with the premier league last season too are they not class either?

Grey came from fast paced English football.... he's used to the type of football we play here in England...

Plus Gray hasn't even had to move house. Inler has moved country, been here only 6 months with no preseason with us, no English football experience and only played a handful of games. I think we can allow him a little patience surely..

I'm with you a bit, Col.

When Inler signed I expected him to be in our first team week in week out. Now, I hadn't realised Kante and Drinkwater would be as good as they have been but I think you're quite right to say that a player of Inler's quality should have got up to speed fairly quickly, a month say.

I'd say there's still a decent chance he'll force his way into the 1st XI later in the season but I don't think you and I are being unfair when we say we're disappointed by what we've seen so far.

Posted

We've also got factor in that during his "adjustment period" he's had what, 4-5 full games worth of playing time. Let's not judge him based on 5 mins here and 10 mins there when we've had to hold on or just close down a game. In his full 90s he's actually given a pretty good account of himself and I think Kingy being ahead of him for first choice sub is both a credit to Kingy but also that he's more of a presser, keep the ball and play it simple like for like with DD. Inler, when he starts, or has time to settle in a game is a ball playing dictator, not a hustle and bustle guy. Good for squad and adds different dimension.

PS - as for Col's comment about he can only play in a middle 3, didn't we just dominate the second half against Spurs (who played 3.in the middle) with a 442 with Inler as big part of that?!

Kante has though and it didn't take him long. Inler's an international captain. People shouldn't have to make excuses for him.

Excuses or explanations?

Depends on your own point of view.

He's simply calling it as he sees it. Inler's been indifferent all season and is now making a contribution. Simple as that. it remains to be seen if he can keep it up.

One and a half good games, several ordinary performances or worse. I agree with the jist  of your sentiments but he's a way to go yet before he'll be justly labelled convincing.

"Heartening" is my own feeling because, if he can adapt and deliver his best form, it'll be like having another "new" signing to go with Gray and the now emerging Chilwell.

"Indifferent all season"? lol Your way with words - the journalist's shining through, I see.

Indifferent all season.... That after five, six games - two thirds of them bit parts.

I've tried to be pleasant over the last few days. But I see its continuing. Your bias toward Inler is verging on the bizarre.

Whenever anyone has questioned anything about his performances, his value to the team, his 'taking time to settle in' or whether he shouldn't really need much time...whatever...it just doesn't matter. You simply retort with sarcasm, or yet another post which doesn't discuss anything much about the player...just that he shouldn't be questioned.

I see, once more, there literally is no point. Again, I hope you are correct and he proves to be a valuable asset. With that, my discussion on Inler will cease. I'll just wait and see.
