Has Pearson gone West ?

He would be very lucky if he were to land the job, his reputation proceeds him. He is not top club material, plus he's a PR nightmare.

Bristol City would be the lucky ones not Pearson. Who cares if he's a PR nightmare if he pushes your club forward?

I don't even think it was that bad I just found it funny

He's been very unlucky not to land other jobs. 5 seasons or so in the championship 2 play offs and a championship winner and kept a team in the premier league.

If he came back here for a 3Rd time I'd be utterly delughted, how many of our previous managers could we say that about? Maybe 1?

Not very likely unless we have a change of owners.

I thought he was still taking a salary from Leicester City

He has started talking to the media and doing interviews since the new year, so it seems likely he's not being paid by our club anymore.

Well, he pushed us in the right direction and for now, we'll never know whether he's "top club material" or not - because he's not had a proper chance of proving himself at that level yet.

The PR nightmare thing is another one of those recent urban myths that, if regurgitated a million times doesn't make them true'r.

There were a few moments where he lost his temper - and I still believe, he was right to do so. Managers are getting so much stick at times, you can't just have it pearl down like water down your back all the time.

These "incidents" were far and few in between and on the whole, he's an excellent Championship manager who could potentially push for a Premier League job still.

I wish him well and do hope he can start at Bristol City and prove their own doubters wrong, just like he proved many of our fans wrong.

In any case, he's got to start somewhere. :D

I'd imagine he'd bring in Powell as assistant if he went to Bristol. I'd never rule out Walsh and Shakey moving on as they clearly have a great relationship with Nige, I'd just hope the lure of what could be down Filbert Way next season would be too much to turn down . Stowell has been mentioned on the Bristol forum but I was led to believe Stowell and Pearson had a major fall out so that wouldn't happen if what I was told is correct.

And most of the time under financial restraints and being saddled with big wage Charlies we couldn't get rid of for years. For me he's the best manager out there. There isn't another manager that could have done what he did for us. It was top notch, it really was.

Kept Southampton up when we got relegated to league one?

Managed to pull of the biggest of fire fights last year?

Add to that his days at Carlisle where he pulled off a miracle to keep them up too, that Jimmy Glass goal.

Completely nuts at time's last year,.

I'm sick of reading this bollocks.

One ill judged touchline action against McArthur (he playfully put his hand round his throat after he almost signed for us, but also had just took him clean out). The player himself admitted there was nothing in it.

Then the ostrich rant, which whilst bizarre, would be treated very differently if the media liked him like they once did Mourinho. In any case he apologised after.

That's it. That's him being 'completely nuts'.

Alan Pardew gets in worse trouble than that every season. He has actually laid hands on linesmen and 4th officials. Jurgen Klopp has already had several touchline indiscretions.

What people regularly forget is the complete dignity he has shown in his entire career before that. Careful not to slag off other clubs. Not to get too carried away with short term form, etc. Always down to earth and often talked complete sense throughout his career.

How are people forgetting the true class he shown whilst in the media spotlight after being faked sacked? He had to face the media and the questions and acted with complete dignity when it would have been easier not to.

Bristol City fans are fvcking mental if they think they are too good for him by overstating a couple of ill judged moments in his first season under a) the spotlight and b) whilst under the stress of undeservedly being bottom for so long.

He did what he did, and it was more than just a couple of incidents. Just because you weren't offended doesn't mean they were unimportant.

If he had been a manager at any other club nobody on here would have any sympathy for him.

Seriously? What other incidents are there?

Told a fan who had been abusing him and his staff for weeks to FOAD? EVERY manager has had an incident of similar nature throughout their career.

Even if it's something you would do, no other manager I know of has told one of their own fans to FOAD. He also called that reporter a pr**k, the public spat with lineker, plus the other things then it was quite a justified comment to say he was AT TIMES being completely nuts. That's different to him being completely nuts. Never said he was completely nuts just at times completely nuts. so you don't need to get your

Knickers in a twist....

Perhaps you percieve the FOAD bit to be worse than a simple FO? It's the same thing as far as I'm concerned. A throwaway comment where he is completely in the right. If such things were happening regularly then I would understand using it against him as a slight against his professionalism.

Calling a reporter who is acting like a **** a ****? What a monster. The reporter himself found it funny so why some of our fans use it to express fake outrage and offence to it i am utterly baffled by.

The Lineker thing was anything but a spat. Lineker had a pop at him, Nige had a pop back. Nothing wrong with that.

Even if you disagree with my belief that there is nothing to these indescretions, and therefore he is not 'nuts' then at least you should be able to overlook them in the name of being biased.

The majority of Man U fans and Chelsea fans don't have a pop at their managers just because they are of combative nature. It's overlooked because of the positives which outweigh the negatives at a ratio of 99:1. The same should apply here.

Sorry for the long post.

I think it's just that I find the term 'nuts' to be more derogatory then anything Nigel has said and its unfair to label him that when everything he achieved here (prem survival, two promotions, smart squad building on a tight budget and steady progression) is in complete contrast to the term 'nuts'.

'Nuts' puts you in the same bracket as Di Canio, the Venkys and Billy Davies lol

Come on Nigel, you can do better than that pal.

This. No offence to Bristol, but Nigel has proven himself an excellent team builder and good manager in the higher echelons of the leagues. Much of the infrastructure at the club that is now so lauded, was implemented during his tenure. There are many people who have and do contribute to its success, but he deserves huge credit

Posted

Because he's our second greatest manager of all time?

You're wide of the mark there kid. Not saying I don't appreciate what Nigel did at Leicester as I do and he will always be a Leicester legend but he's behind O'Neill, Gillies and probably Bloomfield at least. Maybe even Claudio if he gets us into the top four.

Bristol are similar to where we were when he took over us. He has the opportunity to build something there and I think he'd do a good job.

There is no doubt Gillies is the best. Took us to four domestic cup finals, winning one, while also nearly winning the league in '63 (if it wasn't for those four or five consecutive defeats). Lost in the FA Cup final that year too. How people over look this is beyond me.

We can't all remember the early 60s like you.

100% agree.

NP did a great job here, he deserves out respect and our thanks for turning the club around.

If he goes to Bristol City, a club in a rich part of England crying out for a decent football team, then I wish him all the best. If he was to take CS and SW then so be it. LCFC will always be bigger than any individual and I am confident that the owners would bring in the right people.

Posted

If NP does go to Brizzle I think we should wish him all the best (I can't understand how some people here seem to run down his achievements for us). I for one would like to see him back in football and Bizzle might suit him down to the ground IF he has supportive owners who are prepared to take the long view and not to panic when things go wrong. (as indeed City' owners were).

I'm surprised he didn't go to Villa actually, be he said once that the only wasy an Englishman can manage in the premiership is to take a team up. He wasn't quite right, but had something of a point even so.
