May be a little knee-jerk, but....

Agreed. We've forgotten what a good side we are when we get the ball on the floor. There were glimpses of that style in the first half, but then we were so negative in the second half it was unreal. I can sort of accept that against top sides, but Villa? There is absolutely no excuse for it.

I remember a couple of months ago being so proud about the fact we were winning games whilst playing great attacking football. We've gone backwards over the past few weeks - I put it down to Vardy being unfit but he looked fairly sharp today and we still didn't go about it the right way.

Really, really disappointing to see us try to cling on against one of the worst sides we've seen in this league for years. We're better than that and we need to go back to the basics that got us where we are.

Yes we're top, for now, but we've not beaten an awful Villa tonight and that is all our own doing. We must make sure we don't let our performances go on like this because we will pay for it.

This.

How long a break do the pla

Thinks it's common sense that the high tempo we've been playing that our players would burn out, it's coming to the point.

A few players need a rest, but unfortunately we don't really have great backs up, good enough, but not great, I know you don't get anyone fantastic in the January window but i'd have expected us to strengthen abit more than we are/have.

How long do they need? The majority had 10 days before Spurs. Why didn't we burn out in the Championship? I think these are just excuses for ultra defensive tactics that we employ. Like you say, it's nice when it works. It's absolutely atrocious when it doesn't.

Wycombe gave a better account of themselves against Villa than we did.

Feels like ages since that Swansea game, probably the last time I thought we played well and dominated a team. The chelsea performance was another clinical one.

Lucky not to lose Huth to a red and concede a pen today as well, a few reckless arms to the face of Kozak.

On the positives, was really impressed with with Shinji and Drinky. Kanté was his usual busy self. The defense played well in general, although you'd expect that with a wall of 4 men in front of you. Fuchs looked good going forwards as well. Vardy got himself into some good positions, was just lacking that final finish or ball.

I understand the concerns, but I don't really care how we play, i've always been the same, results are a priority for me, ok we've not got a result today but generally it is working, it has worked.

I think you're looking at this the wrong way. This is not about good football vs results. It's about the fact that when we were playing better football we were creating more chance and are more likely to get better results.

Like against other poor sides - like Newcastle and Swansea. Our style was much more positive in those games and we created a hat full. We beat both easily.

Tonight was negative and that's why we didn't win. Against Tottenham we won in spite of our poor performance. Don't get sucked into the idea that we are more likely to win by sitting back and blasting it up to short strikers. Anyone who understands football can see that this is not the tactic that has worked for us so far. Our goals have dried  up a bit since we started playing that way. That is no coincedence.

Our performances have certainly dropped in recent weeks and it's frustrating because results like tonight would not happen with us playing at our best. And at our best we are pure positivity. That doesn't mean passing it to death - it means pressing, throwing men forward, movement off the ball and looking to score goals first and foremost.

Pulis style football is good if you have shit players. But even theen, it will only take you so far. We have good players, mainly, and are suited to positive football.

Tonight was a missed opportunity and it will happen again unless we go back to playing the way we have for most of the season.

Maybe, our opponents have changed their tactics against us so we've had to change as well?

No. Tonight was there for the taking, Villa were plenty open enough and we should have battered them. To be fair, we may have done had we scored the penalty but that's no excuse for the second half when we were bizarrely negative.

Yes kneejerk, yes reactionary and its getting sickening and fvcking embarrassing now!Of course today is disappointing but look at our position, the season and get a fkn grip you moaning unrealistic and deluded fools. Bad days and disappointing results happen and stop acting like we're fkn Barca all of a sudden, we're not!!!

But we've not been getting good results playing this "brand" of football. Most of our good run was by playing the on-the-ground, quick kind of football, rather than hoofball. This 'new' way has resulted in us scoring about 2 goals in the last 5/6 games or so.

We're doing well, but only because every other team is currently screwing up. The gap is getting smaller from the pack, and the pressure increasing all the time.

Yes 9 points to 5 th place its worrying!

Wednesday we were excellent, now we're shite! Not saying you're saying that Charl, some are and I hardly think we're hoofball btw.

I don't think we've had a bad six games. We played well against Man City and Spurs twice or, if you have just league games, a 3-2 win at Everton. Half the performances have been poor but we've mixed them in with good displays against top sides.

Its important we don't lose in this little period. Think Claudio has realised this, with an easier run of fixtures coming after the man city game, where we can express ourselves a bit more.

Claudio is playing it smart, albeit cautious with our defensive displays, but come end of the season it could be an important factor.

For what it's worth, I don't think we were excellent on Wednesday.

I think we got a lucky smash-and-grab against the general run of play, with help from poor spurs finishing. A draw would have been a fair result.

We're so stuck up our own behind in wanting to play counter attack football that we forget to play the game in front of us. Villa were shocking and an average performance would have seen us three up by half time. The trend is worrying.

There does seem to be a lot of hoofing atm. We don't seem to be rushing to give players an option so they're forced to go long or back to Schmeichel. It's lazy, we won't win games if we expect the man on the ball to make something happen

Fwiw, I didn't think we played the same hoofball that we did 11v11 Bournemouth today.

Villa were dreadful until we missed the pen and gave them a lift. Think back to West Ham at home last season. In control, ahead and they looked disinterested. Nuge had his pen saved and the game changes.

we need a replacement for Leo or we will struggle to finish top 4. Simples.

Some of the passing today was slick. Tony pulls side? Pffft behave yourself. Move on

Agree. Some of that close in passing along the flanks was superb.

If you're a team that likes to break by putting the ball into space and that space is the other side of the pitch, then of course you're going to pass it there. It's your job.

This is the reason we have no possession in games and our passing accuracy looks awful statistically. It's not that our passing is bad, it's that we don't always play to the feet of the recipient of the pass.

Personally, I'd rather watch any team that plays this way to one that tippy taps the ball toothlessly

when vardy became not fully fit. he turned long balls into through balls, long balls into passes, hoofs into "playing it down the line". if he isn't busting a gut to get on the end of them then they look like what they are, aimless boots up the pitch.

What a load of whining mother fookers, there is no way we can maintain the high temp pace that we started the season with, CR is keeping it tight over this busy period to save players from injuries, once we are out of this busy period I'm sure the style will change again, get a grip we are still top of the league

Posted

We hoof too often, but when we have possession we've become slow, getting caught out too much, less direct and incisive. We were guilty of over playing today, looking for a brilliant pass, and too often going backwards.

Posted

What's going to stop us from being Southampton from last season is that we can play different styles like long ball. It worked against Spurs, but today it just meant being dragged into Villa's shit territory.

The quick turnover football will return against the top sides.

Posted

We just haven't got the players who can play out from the back, if we sit deep and manage to turnover the ball the only thing we can do is hoof it.

It's been a real mixture of late, if we are able to win second balls in midfield through Drinky or Kante that's when we get our passing & link play going, if we sit back and the game passes them by we tend to go for the hoof it route, just goes to show how influential Drinky & Kante are for the team.

We've run out of ideas to how to score goals... PLEASE.. WE NEED A STRIKER IN THIS WINDOW!!...

Or else our top 4 challenge will quickly fade into oblivion!

Today's game was boring

Villa dragged us down to their level.. And we let them!

It's the paradox that is a counter attacking thrill and a clean sheet philosophy and we're stuck in the middle.

Yes I agree with you. We appear to now be defending our position (top or top 4) and not playing with the same instinct and freedom that we did at the start of the season. This is a tremendous opportunity for us and I don't think we will get another one for who knows how many years. Now is our chance.

Why didn't we get Charlie Austin when we bid 12M for him in the summer? We knew that the Vardy run would dry up and we have few decent backup options up front at the mo.

I think we have been lucky in last few games to get the points we have got - so we must act now before chance disappears.

This does seem a ridiculous argument given where we were 12 months ago but our challengers are all in Europe and they could get tied up with those games - we must capitalise on these opportunities
