Stevosevic Posted 16 January 2016 Posted 16 January 2016 Does anyone know the average number of points needed for a top 4 finish? I think I read it may be 68 but this may be wrong. If that was the case however, it would mean needing something like 7 wins, 3 draws and 6 defeats from the remaining games. I think that shows we don't need outstanding form from here on in for a sensational season. Of course you can't always rely on averages based on previous seasons but I think some fans need some perspective on our current position. Yes the performances haven't been great in the last 5 but we only had one defeat.
Webbo Posted 16 January 2016 Posted 16 January 2016 On Final score, talking about Chelsea, they said 71 points on average made the top 4.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 January 2016 Posted 16 January 2016 I was looking at the table earlier and thought 72 was about what we'd need.
ScouseFox Posted 16 January 2016 Posted 16 January 2016 if we win all our "easier" home games we will get there for sure. West Ham are currently in 5th and are on for 61 points. obviously it never works out that easy but that means 62 would get 4th. we beat; Stoke, Norwich, WBA, Newcastle, Southampton, West Ham and Swansea at home and we're on 65 points with another 9 games to get a few points from, including trips to sunderland, watford and palace. we play, or get points, in anything like a similar way to the past year and we finish fourth AT LEAST.
Reg Vardy Posted 16 January 2016 Posted 16 January 2016 Last year 4th 70 points...9 wins from 16 6th 62 points 6 wins from 16 We have 12 at home10 away out of 22. Possible wins Home Norwich, Newcastle, Southampton, Swansea, West Brom , Stoke, West Ham,Liverpool,Everton, Away Sunderland,Palace,Watford Others United, Chelsea, City, Arsenal Quite possible.....
Socks Posted 16 January 2016 Posted 16 January 2016 We wont finish in the top 6 never mind the top 4 As we've seen from the past 5 games our bubble has burst. The pundits might have been right about us. I hope is it just tiredness and we regenerate (but with our sports science dept being one of the best how can it be tiredness?) But part of me thinks its cos we are safe players minds are in the wrong mindset now Ranieris tactics seems to have changed as well. Yeah hes sorted the defense out but the attacking force seems to have gone away. I mean why bring de leat on today like he did? Didnt make sense Today was a dreadful game. Worst all season

Worst all season Our bubble hasn't burst. We are top of the league. Our last 5 fixtures have been pretty hard. I don't think it's the "safe" mentally, quite the opposite, I think the "pressure" is getting to the players we don't seem to play with the same freedom. I would say this is don't to changing yeh full backs. With Simpson and Fuchs at the back we are more solid but with De Laet and Schlupp at the back we were more attacking but also concede more. Swings and roundabouts I suppose

LCFCFOX6190 Posted 16 January 2016 Posted 16 January 2016 Need to sign a few quality players or I fear we'll drop like Southampton.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 January 2016 Posted 16 January 2016 Desperate for us to come top three. If we come fourth we'll get a stinker of a CL Playoff game and go out. Need to qualify automatically In third
gw_leics772 Posted 16 January 2016 Posted 16 January 2016 Great article here which goes some way to answering your question, but then goes a step further and makes things look even more positive (even after todays game) http://www.espn.co.uk/soccer/barclays-premier-league/23/blog/post/2787039/leicester-dont-need-luck-in-race-for-champions-league-places
Vardinio'sCat Posted 17 January 2016 Posted 17 January 2016 It's going to be a lower total than the recent average, for sure, given the way things are going. I'm going to suggest 66-68 should be enough.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 17 January 2016 Posted 17 January 2016 Spurs came 5th with 62 points in 2010-11, which is worth thinking about. So it depends which teams manage to raise their game in the remaining games, with Man U, West Ham and Spurs leading the chasing pack. This is from the excellent article posted above.
ScouseFox Posted 17 January 2016 Posted 17 January 2016 note that southampton "dropped like a stone" for two reasons. a) their last 15 or so games of the season wasn't just not as good as their earlier form, it was relegation form. b) they were never close to the position we are currently in. after 22 games they were 4th, but only 2 points ahead of 5th, only 4 points ahead of 7th. we're 9 points ahead of 5th, 12 points ahead of 7th. we will (hopefully) not start playing like relegation scrappers and even if we do we have 7 more points of "room for error". they are totally different situations.

Worst all season One of the most miserable posts I've read in ten years on this forum. Our bubble has not burst however the fine margins aren't quite going with us. And arguably if we hadn't missed two penalties we'd have been 5 points clear at the top.
Blue army boys Posted 17 January 2016 Posted 17 January 2016 Cant believe what I'm reading.. We're 13 points clear of 8th place and some people really think that's where we're gunna finish. Yes, we have dropped points in the last five games and we haven't played as well but we are still top. This happens to all the top teams, if it didn't the league would be pretty boring. I believe the top 4 is more than possible.

Worst all season Wow, glass half empty? I personally am still enjoying this season and loving the fact we are TOP OF THE TABLE TODAY. Over achieving? Yeah maybe we are, but **** it I'm enjoying it. Should've won yesterday? Yes of course, fine margins meant that the penalty miss changed the whole complexion of the game. No moaning down at the ground please folks, get behind the team, raise the roof, don't be like the many at the Bournemouth game that sat back waiting for us to win, get on your feet sing your hearts out, do your bit for the team. Come on City.
Spence Posted 17 January 2016 Posted 17 January 2016 We may not have been playing our best or in fact playing very bad football the last few matches, but remember in mid-week we did beat spurs… a team Paul Merson said are able to win the league. thats taking 3 easy points against another team in the top 4… not so bad for a team playing like dog shite. A point against villa is not the be all and end all, villa will make a lot of teams scrappy and they got the better of us last night but theres no need to say we're going to be finishing out of the top 6 because our form is soooooo bad. I think a few fans are starting to get a little high maintenance forgetting where we are and how we've got there so quickly expecting 3 points and 10/10 performances week in and week out.

Our bubble has not burst however the fine margins aren't quite going with us. And arguably if we hadn't missed two penalties we'd have been 5 points clear at the top. Agreed. Plus Mahrez's and Kante's level has dropped - they can't be world beaters every week - and for 6 weeks we've been playing with a half fit main striker, but we are still top. When Vardy gets up to full speed we will be a potent attacking force once again I hope. We do however need another striker to have any chance of top 4.

Worst all season Terrible post. If Man City or Arsenal don't win it's a blip, we don't win then our bubble has burst. I'm not buying that our players are such losers they've switched off because they have 40pts and aren't too bothered about winning the league or getting Champions League. If we don't win the league or get top four it will be because we're not good enough and lack the quality of the big teams not because we couldn't be arsed to win it.
49er Posted 17 January 2016 Posted 17 January 2016 The average points haul in the last fifteen seasons has, according to my calculations, to finish in the top 4 has been 69 so another 25 to go.
NewEnglandFox Posted 17 January 2016 Posted 17 January 2016 I've seen 3 projections that say 65 points, which is lower than normal. 21 points in 16 games should be easily obtainable and the minimum target for even the teams in the relegation battle. I'm not fussed about going into where we're going to pick up the points as of now. I think we all get the fine line between complacency and "perspective" lately.
