MON and Gary keeping it in perspective

‘It's been a great, great season, said the Republic of Ireland boss, who was in charge of the east Midlands club between 1995 and 2000.

'They'll be disappointed about the manner in which they've gone out, but they've got big things to look forward to.

‘Let me put it this way, I think they'll get over it rather quickly. Very quickly indeed. Like about 15 minutes.'

Gary Lineker, who was hosting the BBC coverage on which O'Neill made the comments, suggested the players would be all right as soon

as they got out of the showers, and O'Neill agreed.

‘Disappointed for about 13 and a half, then let's go and get the pizza!’ concluded O'Neill.

In other words neither of them think they were that bothered or that committed to winning last night...which is exactly what I thought too. Just a run round the park for the pups and strays as far as I could see.

It still disappointed me though. We seem to be out of adrenalin. I think of us as a spoiling team now rather than fast, fearsome counter-attackers.

And we're so short of capable reserves in almost every department. But then I knew that after the Hull defeat. Gray and Chilwell look promising but both'll need toughening up.

Said it all along and I'll say it again, I'd rather win the FA Cup than finish top 4.

Same here mate.

It seems the only people who care about the FA Cup now are a minority of fans. That is until we get to the latter stages of the Cup and then everyone is crying when they don't get a ticket. But it doesn't help when then pundits an ex-players and managers are laughing it off as though it doesn't matter.

I'm all for keeping things in perspective and this season has been incredible so far, but I was furious with the team we put out and the way we set up last night. As soon as we saw the formation we knew what the outcome would be. A defensive, timid display.

any other season than this yeah. it's more likely we can win the FA Cup than get into the Champions League.

I agree top four is great but you remember a cup final more than a top four finish.

We get into the Champions League .... brilliant achievement, well done and then we get knocked out.

Win the FA Cup .... brilliant achievement, well done and it's in our trophy cabinet forever.

Champions League football can change the club for the next decade, an FA cup win does not.

I'd rather get the chance to play in a tournament we may never ever get to again, then win a tournament we play in every single year.

More likely to get a lucky cup run in future than to remain consistently in top 4 for a whole year (much harder). Now is our chance

Get in the top 4 means we get more money and then comes better players wanting to join then comes a better way of us actually winning the fa cup! Top four for me is still priority

The most frustrating thing for me is that there is absolutely NO evidence that a Cup run can negatively effect your league form. Yet pretty much everyone is bought into that way of thinking. Sad to see so many Leicester fans that were actually pleased we'd been knocked out.

This precisely. I'd love us to win the FA Cup but this season I'm not too fussed about it because if we get top 4, immediately you've got a higher calibre of player willing to sign for us, thereby making it (in theory) more likely for us to build as a club and increase our chances of league and cup success in future. Champions League is something very exclusive, whereas you can have a stab at the FA Cup every year no matter what league you're in. You're right about the FA Cup not changing a team - how are Wigan doing these days?

For me personally, FA Cup is an odd one as it's pretty much the only competition I can enjoy even as a neutral. As long as Spurs don't win it I'm happy

Alright I get that side of it too but considering I'd love to see us win the FA Cup I thought that this season presented us with a great chance considering we are playing so well.

FA Cup happens every year so we can just try again, and if we got through and beat Colchester then draw a team like Arsenal at any point in the run to the final although we're high in the league it doesn't show our depth in quality in the squad.

Teams which have play in Europe or are regularly challenging for European spots will have a Europe league squad to use in the extra tournaments through the season whereas we're limited to putting out anyone who hasn't played in the league with a couple of first teamers and younger lads.

I would rather have our efforts in the league so far be shown with a top 4 finish than win the FA cup. Then depth, and quality, in the squad will see us push further in both the League Cup and FA Cup.

Yeah it's a bit of a missed opportunity, but let's say we put out a full strength team last night from the off, one of Kante/Vardy/Mahrez/Morgan picked up a hamstring injury and were out for 8 weeks and we still went on to lose - that would have been a huge blow. Ifs and buts, but Spurs are a good side and there's no saying we would have won however we approached the game. Maybe next year

Top 4 in the PL? How would you know?

Look at the bigger picture. If we reach the Champions' League, we become a more famous and richer club. Then we can really strengthen the squad and become stronger contenders to win the FA Cup every season.

We may never get another chance to finish top 4 in our lifetimes. It's extremely unlikely that we do so well while 3 of the biggest clubs all have poor seasons at the same time ever again. I don't understand how people could fail to see this. If we ever perform this well again, chances are there'll be at least 4 clubs doing better. If there's ever another season where 3 giant clubs struggle, chances are we'll be nowhere near the top of the table.

We get a shot at the FA Cup every single season.

It's a no-brainer.

You may get a chance to win it every year but we haven't and we've been in it a "few" times, it's frustrating when you see the likes of coventry & wigan have won it and they weren't even in the top 3/4 leagues when I started watching LCFC.

Besides I don't really see why you can't compete properly for both if we get into the Champions League we'll need to be competing in 4 competitions.

I just believe we went into this game with a defeatist attitude after all virtually the same team gave a much better performance away so there was really no reason to think we couldn't have won this but it was obvious to me that spurs wanted it more although probably more to do with avoiding the embarrassment of not beating us in 4 games you could see that by how happy they were at the end.

True, but wouldn't you remember a European Tour, and Champions League games at the KP more than 1 day out at Wembley?

We have a chance of winning the FA Cup every season, this may well be our only chance for a very long time of playing in the Champions League. Even if we go out in the groups, it'd be phenomenal for the club.
