chicagofox Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 We failed to bring in a striker which was clearly a necessity, of course someone is to blame. It really shouldn't come down to the last few hours of this deadline day, we've had plenty of time to negotiate a deal. No it was not clearly a necessity
EnglishOxide Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 Where did I say you should stop holding opinions? Sorry, it wasn't aimed specifically at you. It's just a trend I've noticed alot lately on here.
J.Lisemore Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 No it was not clearly a necessity We play 4-4-2... we had 4 strikers...we now have 3. Yes, we needed a striker. There's only so long we're going to get away with injuries.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 A couple of months ago, our bubble was going to burst and we were going to lose Vardy and Mahrez (maybe Kanté too) in the January window. We are now in February, clear at the top of the league, kept our first team together, added Gray and Amartey, and Shinji has been finding his best form since he's been with us. We've binned off one striker who didn't get a look-in and hasn't made the bench a lot of the time and we have a recall option on him if things get desperate. We also have a reserve striker who scored a hattrick in the league cup this season. I'd say we are doing OK.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 And you have to say that, along with Okazaki coming into form, Vardy has looked sharp since his op - clearly 15 goals before then we're pretty good, but he does look reenergised since December. The chip that Shinji bundled in and then his goal in the last game were moments of a striker in form.

Vardy and Ulloa up front / Vardy and Okazaki / Ulloa and Okazaki / Mahrez behind either Ulloa, Vardy, or Okazaki / Schlupp up front with any of the above / King in the attacking midfield role behind a striker. We have options. It's 15 games. Calm down.
Merging Cultures Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 No panic, i think our players will play their guts out. However, I believe we have a problem with transfers. Who is in charge? Is it Rudkin? From what I've read on FT, I'm not sure he has the experience to pull off last minute transfers.
AyewJoking Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 leaving a lot to chance never mind, if we lose vardy and end up finishing outside the top 5, Dwight Gayle would be considered a coup
chicagofox Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 From what I've read on FT,. That invalidates your post right there mate.
Merging Cultures Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 That invalidates your post right there mate. ! I guess that includes your own arguments then?!
ozleicester Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 If Vards gets injured - weve made a mistake. If Vards loses form - weve made a mistake With the possibility of Champions league football at our doorstep, not paying an extra couple of million $ (if that was the stumbling block) then we have definitly made a mistake, i mean, if we fininsh in the top 10, we will already earn more than we expected for the season, its like losing the house of your dreams, for the sake of a few extra dollars, long term its worth the extra spend! Disappointed we didnt get a quality experienced striker in the door.
Merging Cultures Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 I find the argument, "if you pay what they are asking, other clubs will rip you off too" a silly argument. Musa, whether he'd have been any good or not, had a release clause. It was there for a reason. It was pointless negotiating, why would they take less than the release clause? For players that do not have those clauses, yes negotiate, and negotiate hard. If, and it is not a huge if, Vardy gets injured again, or loses form again, then our goals are likely to dry up, again. We've already seen we do not have strength in depth, to keep scoring. Plus, I think our style has either been figured out, or CR has made us more defensive. So we need to have strikers who bring options. As I said before, no need to panic, but I'm not impressed with how we did this.
Leicester_Numan Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 We play 4-4-2... we had 4 strikers...we now have 3. Yes, we needed a striker. There's only so long we're going to get away with injuries. A top class striker coming in would have been great but we couldn't get one without a degree of reckless spending, one chose Inter Milan, hardly a surprise and one was involved in a battle with his club. Kramaric's loan on the other hand should be viewed with a bit of sense rather than worry. We haven't needed him all season and it can only be a positive thing that he's out getting games and hopefully goals elsewhere than sitting moping about the club doing nothing in the event that we do have to recall him. Worry about injuries if and when they happen and not until, we're 23 games in and top playing with 3 strikers, one of which has been carrying injuries pretty much all season but hasn't missed a game and is the league's top scorer.
J.Lisemore Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 Vardy and Ulloa up front / Vardy and Okazaki / Ulloa and Okazaki / Mahrez behind either Ulloa, Vardy, or Okazaki / Schlupp up front with any of the above / King in the attacking midfield role behind a striker. We have options. It's 15 games. Calm down. The only one out of that lot I have faith in is - Vardy/Okazaki, that is why I feel we needed a new striker. As brilliant as Vardy has been, I don't expect him to be scoring every week, Ranieri touched on this by saying he needed someone to take the weight off his shoulders. We will never be in this position again, and to not even get somebody in on loan, is a bit of a piss-take
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 For the first time I find myself agreeing with virtually everyone in a thread, even if they disagree with each other. I can definitely see everyone's point that we got here without a big name striker, Shinji is looking like he might be able to do some damage now, and it could take a while for a new player to settle in to a new squad anyway especially with our style. And most strikers available in Jan are going to be out of favour with their current club and not getting game time, possibly for not being good enough or just for being unfit. But I also find myself nodding in agreement with those saying that this is a once in a lifetime chance to do something truly amazing this season and you'd think we'd have a bit more guile and ambition to secure someone. But who at the club has any experience in this situation? It's unprecedented in Leicester history. It's new territory for pretty much everyone as far as I can tell, it looks like we didn't really know what to do.
AyewJoking Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 you can trust the current players to carry us through... but the manager/scouts must be frustrated. they wanted a striker, tried to get one but failed. you can say we refused to be held to ransom or we were overly cautious and tight fisted. not suggesting i know the details of our scouting network but we had a month to bring a striker in, missed out on targets (if the rumours were true) yet still didnt push the boat out when we must have known it was our last chance to sign a striker with the deadline looming. maybe i'll feel better after a win versus liverpool but rightly or wrongly i feel disappointed so forgive me if this post is a little wide of the mark.
Candidcamera Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 I think Demaria Gray will be the player to take the chance as we go into the second part of the challenge. It is wrong to say we signed no striker as we play a quick cultured player could make all the difference.

Basically, we kept the car together and it's running smoothly. But our insurance policy is practically non-existent in some areas now.
MC Prussian Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 I think the point is that we could be doing much better than OK. Basically, we kept the car together and it's running smoothly. But our insurance policy is practically non-existent in some areas now. It does, we've just sold the insurances for some temporary extra cash (or at reduced costs, depending on how you see it), with the option of re-calling them if need be. It would take a monumental cock-up for us to lose a Top Four spot. But I think it'd be best if we came back to this discussion and this thread at the end of the season in order to assess whether the club made the right decision to chase after or rather not chase after an additional striker and/or a new right-back. For all we know, they may as well have tried to get someone on board, but unsuccessfully. Or they decided against it because of the inflated prices in January. Who can tell right now? All in all, we ought to look forward to the remaining 15 fixtures and allow it to unfold as positively as possible. We've been part of such a tremendous ride, I can't see it stopping that soon. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Aus Fox Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 Does anyone remember the year Newcastle under Kevin Keefan were flying later in the season. They had a huge lead at the top and brought on Faustino Asprilla, everyone said they needed another option forward. They ended up blowing the lead and many Grordies blamed it on the Asprilla signing, they slightly changed the way they played and lost a bit of harmony in the dressing room. No doubt he was a great player and scored goals but he upset the apple cart a little and the rest is history. So before we say we've blown an opportunity, maybe we've dodged a bullet.
Chrysalis Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 We have managed to weaken ourselves this window I am pretty disappointed myself. This is why you dont let players go until they have been replaced, better to have too many than not enough.
The Doctor Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 Vardy has no injury, Ranieri has explained this about 582953489341 times. He had a slight problem in mid january which he had a very small basic operation to fix, and the operation was 100% successful. He is totally fit, I don't know why its hard not to notice when he was running like 100 miles an hour against Villa and Stoke in the last prem games. People aren't saying he is injured though, they're saying what if he gets injured, which with the way tackles fly in on him isn't an unrealistic question to ask - we saw loads of teams try to nobble him in the 11 game run, and that eventually lead to the groin problem that had him off the boil for a month
Aus Fox Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 We have managed to weaken ourselves this window I am pretty disappointed myself. This is why you dont let players go until they have been replaced, better to have too many than not enough. 3 players who rarely made the bench out 2 better players in. Can't see how this has weakened us? Especially with recall options.
