shen Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 It all started wonderfully and with some absolutely pulsating games. I felt quite comfortable after 6 games that we were not going to be in any relegation battle this season. It continued until the Arsenal game which made it easy to let go of unrealistic dreams. I mean, at that point I was thinking a top 8-10 finish would be fantastic. Their position was being noticed by my Barcelona supporting boss and he was somewhat impressed. I watched the Man Utd game with my Arsenal supporting friend and a few of his Man Utd supporting mates in a fiercely (unbeknownst to me) Man Utd-centric pub. I went apeshit on my own in this packed place when Vardy scored and didn't care one iota if it offended all the United supporters in there. They were probably taken a bit by surprise that anyone would support Leicester and I got a few dismissing looks when I belted out Vardy's havin' a party! This was probably one of the best and proudest moments of this season for me personally. After that, when we beat Chelsea and Everton, my Arsenal supporting mate (who's as pessimistic a supporter as you'll find after having had so many hopeful campaigns amount to no 'major' trophies since 2004) was saying we'd probably end up winning the whole shebang! I played it down, but couldn't resist thinking about what if. Since then, I've really struggled not to tell people about it, even those in my family who care fukk all about football. The wife loves that I'm passionate about Leicester so she's loving the smiles and blankly accepts that if a Leicester game is on, all other things have to wait. My boss started to check up weekly on the results since Christmas and every time we're one on one, he talks to me about them, asking me "How do they do it?", "What are the doing different?" and "What the heck is going on in England and the big clubs?". The attention from the media, from friends and colleagues, it's just crazy. After the exceptional relegation fight last season, I wasn't expecting anything to surpass it for many years, I mean, that was a Herculean effort in itself! But I just cannot get my head around the fact the ultimate Football Manager scenario is actually happening, and not because we've bought the league Man City style, but by actually being the most unfancied side in the division. It's obsessing, it's exhilerating, it's terrifying in a sense. In a weird and strange way, I would like things to go 'back to normal' after this season because I don't know how I'll deal with things knowing I'd be supporting a regular title contender. How will we ever surpass this or even come close to? As Manwell Pablo pointed out, I'm not sure this is actually healthy to go through, just like last season wasn't. I'm just grateful that I get to experience this before I inevitably get disenfranchised with football entirely what with all the watered-down international competitions, talks of super leagues and the constant farce that is FIFA. In a selfish way, it feels very rewarding that I "picked" Leicester as my team, having no rational connection to the club at all. I could easily have been supporting any of the big guns or even local clubs in Belgium or Denmark, but none captured my imagination like Leicester did. I'm glad I stuck by them like any proper fan should.
Mikey Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 I just spend the day daydreaming about what's happened and what will happen in the rest of the season. Trying to change career paths and currently finding it hard so just thinking about Leicester takes all the pressure away. It'd be a lot, lot worse day to day if we were doing bad!
stripeyfox Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 I'm constantly cycling in my head between: "Oh my god, what if we actually win the league? What if we win it with a game to spare. How amazing would that be?" then "Don't be ridiculous. We're Leicester. We don't win the Premier League. That's for the big clubs. Yes we've done well, but we'll crack, and finish 3rd or 4th. But that's ok, it's still a great season" and then back to : "Oh my god, what if we actually win the league? What if we win it with a game to spare. How amazing would that be?" ...
ARM1968 Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 It's not healthy. It's extremely stressful. It creates huge mood swings and hours of nervousness. It's Great!!!

I have a Norwegian friend who supports Leicester and I imagine the downside of this season is that your countrymen probably think you're a new fan and not been with us through thick and thin.

I actually notice a couple of acquaintances post stuff about Leicester on Facebook/Twitter and giving off the vibe they've become fans (Great, I say!), but I've not encountered any glory hunter accusations so far. To me, it's always been a somewhat private thing anyway. I'd wear my Leicester scarf during winter or even the shirt when joining mates for a kickabout, but it's hardly recognised or noticed. Until Schmeichel arrived, we've largely been unknowns in Denmark, with only "hardcore" fans of English football and ageing football pundits remembering our success under MON. I'd imagine we're even more obscure in a country like Norway where football culture was never that big in the first place.
BirminghamFox Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 I'm praying and hoping they change our last home game to the Sunday. I'm performing as Sweeney Todd on stage and have 2 performances that Saturday! I'm already missing April rehearsals on Sundays and putting in the extra work on alternative days!

VinceNoir Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 Brilliant, I didn't realise you were Danish, I thought you were an ex pat. I have a Norwegian friend who supports Leicester and I imagine the downside of this season is that your countrymen probably think you're a new fan and not been with us through thick and thin. This happened to us the other day when we were watching the Watford match. My dad, brother, a few mates and I went to one of the local pubs which we've been to over the last many years, and obviously when Riyad scored, we went nuts. This led to some guy coming down to our table and sneeringly asking how long we'd been Leicester fans, before he went off to the bathroom. My dad, who is a fairly quiet man, has a bad knee at the minute, and he was relatively subdued because of the pain, but that guy riled him up big time. He proceeded to follow him and was gone for a good two minutes. He came back to a round of applause from everyone at our table, before we all started belting out the generic "We were here when we were shit". The other guy then came back from the bathroom and apologised to each of us personally before he crawled off. 100% true story. It was funny as fuk.
NewburyFox Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 I had a season ticket this season but in September booked a flight to Australia to travel for a year. I left after the 0-0 against Manchester City in December. Never did I dream, even after our good start, that I'd be missing out on a season like this. I watch most of the games (sometimes it's not been possible due to location and kick off time) but I can't help feeling slightly disengaged with the whole thing, like I'm not as attached to it all as much as I was when I was going to the games. I'm having a fantastic time here, a once in a lifetime opportunity I guess, but I'm now missing out on what might be a once in a lifetime season. I went to the games with my dad and will likely have a decision to make in August time as Champions League games will be on the horizon, with the away ones particularly special. I can't imagine how great it would be following us over Europe on proper campaign rather than a one off tie. On a side note, it's brilliant telling people I'm from Leicester as they always ask about the football. We truly are a global sensation at the moment.

erlee Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 i am constantly being cynically ask "hey you're only wearing that shirt because Leicester is now on top of the EPL.." i m like "WTF... can't you see this walker crisp sponsor is already old"
Pegosteve Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 Love this thread and just thank christ I'm not the only one with all these thoughts!
VLC86 Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 Normally when I'm doing 80 mph down the motorway to work I say to myself 'Best get back down to 70, I don't want to miss us winning the league'. Lost it.
stripeyfox Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 If we win the league and my heart packs up in the process, I'm thinking "I wonder which minute they'll have a minutes applause for me?"
cambridgefox Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 Do you know I've enjoyed the attention around these parts being the lone Fox,and most know who I support. My Customers are rooting for us and the first thing they mention when i go in to see them is Leicester with big grins on their faces but today I went to see a new client and they were mob handed, the conversation moved on to football ( they started it)and who do you support( 2 X Arsenal and a Chelsea) when I told them Leicester, one said" and how long have you been supporting them for ?since Christmas?" Now that sort of comment cuts deep but I'm sure I can add 10% to my usual margin.
hackneyfox Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 I'm drinking twice as much as I did when we were just little Leicester.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 This season is amazing, and I don't want it to end. But just remember for ever how this feels, because we may never experience this again. And I don't mean we may never challenge like this again, I mean we may never in our lifetime ever feel this first time experience of something so monumental. I'm old enough to have seen so much, but young enough to have missed what is arguably English footballs finest moment, but in truth I'd have said I'd have more chance of witnessing an England championship victory (be it world or euro) than what we are witnessing now. Whether we go on and complete it I don't know, but please savour it.
Heskey2011 Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 first thing people ask me if I haven't seen them for a few days is can we /city,do it? I say something about hoping for champions league etc, went to a wedding a few weeks back and I should have just prerecorded, touch wood /don't jinx it, had the same conversation like a dozen times.
Heskey2011 Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 Also anytime I'm mumping about something, work being shite, taffic bollocks, I just think **** me we're top of the league, ****ing actually top and our team is amazing top to bottom I wouldn't swap anyone, its all about the characters, attitude desire, we have Jamie vardy he's obviously the best striker ever and kante and Mahrez and Claudio dig a ling a ling, I love it, Im spinning out here.
red fox Posted 10 March 2016 Posted 10 March 2016 I'm a celebrity in my local greengrocers in Manchester and i've not had a good Friday nights sleep for months.
