I know nothing about cars but considering getting myself a second hand Jaguar S type.

Does anyone know much about them?

Are they much more expensive to service than most cars? Any specialist problems?

Cheers

I don't know a whole lot about Jags myself, but the impression I get from owners of owners of older examples is that they're great to drive but ultimately a money pit.

Lexus are a lot more reliable if you're after something luxurious, but I can see that they don't really have the same appeal

I'm looking at getting a small runaround to go with the bigger car.  Looks like a load of fun to me but is it worth shelling out for over the standard ST-2 or 3?  Good deals to be had on these Fiesta's with the new, and uglier, model coming in.

Have you ever driven a go kart? I'm being serious. These are serious fun, but the suspension is rock solid and unless you have a back made of iron, it'll start to grate after a while. The focus ST is different gravy, but of course, not as small as you might want.

If you get the Fiesta ST, go for the top spec with heated seats, sat nav and whatavya... it's worth paying the extra for. The exhaust note on these is magic though and the gearboxes as slick as you like.

Never owned or drove one but that looks bloody gorgeous.

The Fiesta has never been as good as it is now.  Especially at the top end.  These ST200's cost around another £5000 on top of the ST3 though.  Not convinced it's worth it mind.

Ford always do this with the end models - then they turn out crap for a few years on the new spec.  The new Fiesta looks terrible, especially from the back.

Here's something we can all contribute to. What was your first car?

Mine was a Mazda 121. I think the 121 referred to the amount of pence it cost to make !!

It was a 1992 K Reg in maroon, not the one that was a fake Ford Fiesta but the one with the bubble shaped roof (see pic below!).

It was bloody awful and lasted about 18 months before I blew it up. You don't see many of these on the roads now. I wonder why lol

That's nice daz, I'd like on myself but my pleas to the bosses are falling on deaf ears at the moment.

They just ordered me a mondeo estate :revenge:

Ouch.

But yeah, it's nice mate, thank you.

It's like driving a sofa about it's so comfortable. Can spend 8 hours driving in a day and still not feel like shit when you get out of it.

What a pile of shit it was. Spent many an hour with my old man repairing all the holes from rust

Well I never ...   mine was a Talbot Sunbeam (same colour as the one below) and it was a pile of sh1te too !!....   and my dad helped me fix all the holes ...   we used newspapers, a bit of mesh and some filler.  Only bought it cus I had had a bad crash in Whetstone on my bike and on the way to hospital my girlfriend said enoughs enough.   I loved my Suzuki GS1000 ...   and I hated my Sunbeam ...    should have ditched the girl and kept the bike ...

Like this f***er but a year newer and in blue. Mine was a great example of a shite car. I'd have cheerily have traded the central locking, electric windows and sun roof for a decent driving position and no crippling back problems.

Amazingly, the example in the picture was for sale not long ago for five grand. Hardly a classic, is it?

My first car was a MK5 Fiesta and then bought a ZR160 which was pretty much standard when I got it. Ended up doing a load of work on it - just got it looking peachy and then got a job with a company car.

This is the MG before I waved goodbye to it - many hard hours of work and money spent on upgrades, none of which added any value, really. :(

Ever since then I've had company cars - Audi A3, VW Tiguan (briefly), BMW 1 Series 2.0, BMW 1 Series 2.0 M-Sport and now the Jaguar.

Won't ever plough any money into a car again if possible - company cars all the way.

Ford Anglia with that odd sloping rear window. (the car pictured isn't mine!) About as basic as you could get with no radio, single speed wipers, 2 speed heater. I think the handbrake was an optional extra!

Cost me £200 from a mate at work in 1975. I scrapped it after bending the front wing round a lamppost trying to be clever in the snow. I then bought a mini van to carry my mobile disco gear in. That was a fun car to drive.
