Kitchandro Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 You can't be serious. These players signed contracts when the club's expectations were far more modest that what these players achieved. Mahrez and Co. helped the club earn a helluva more revenue and prestige than expected, and deserve to be paid accordingly. Leicester City FC has an incredible personal connection to many of us but let's not forget that these are are people and jobs we're talking about. They are being paid accordingly. £100K a week isn't enough for them? This isn't about personal connection. It's about respect. It's about greed. Mahrez and Kante may well be greedy but they're certainly showing a lack of respect when things are pretty great for them. And as good as they are, things are great for them because we took a chance on them and made them part of our rise. One of them alone couldn't have won us the league and they'd do well to remember that. Maybe 'playing hardball' wouldn't necessarily be the best tactical decision for us. But any decision we make should be for the good of the club. If, and I mean IF that means making them rot on the bench then so be it. The players signed contracts and it shouldn't be our problem if they now want out. The man's right, contracts should mean something.

Its the way it is and its about lots of things - yes money plays a part but so does career, dreams and ambition. Im sad to lose anybody to a bigger club - but they are bigger clubs, CL or no CL, PL winners or otherwise. I thank them for their service but don't necessarily wish them well if they are going to be playing in the PL!
foxes_rule1978 Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Reading the first few lines on transfer gossip, Kante going , mahrez to quit, drinkwater no contract and Schlupp to west brom... what a load of rubbish
Nick Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Slimani rumours have gone quiet. Yeah I'm sad about that too.
ithuriel Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Players come and go, the club is now into its third season in the Prem, with a decent manager, owners and infrastructure in place and is ambitious. So long as we stay up, continue to build and strive to win things, I'm perfectly happy.
dpjfox Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 If he hasnt got a release clause then its different to Kante situation. I can understand Raneri stating if a player wants to go then he wont stand in their way, but IMO the players are getting too much power. At the end of the day they are only employees, its time the club did an Everton and say strongly "not for sale"
Foxy_jim Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Think about Southampton. If their fans were like ours most of them would have committed suicide. All their best players left to so called bigger clubs and they didn't even have a trophy or the 'oh well at least we won the league.' If people leave the club then so be it we have achieved the unthinkable which will stick in our memories forever and always have that against our name. We have enough money and great owners and staff to ensure we continue to do well. We will replace these players. Southampton did it and as long as you gave good staff and coach (we obviously do) we will be fine. We are an attractive club to many players so all us not lost if we lose one or two. We can't recreate last season anyway it was a one off in many ways. No injuries, other teams struggling our amazing form etc etc, so we wil finish lower next year I'm sure. If Mahrez leaves say for 40m then that's 70 mil to reinvest with young guys like Gray and Amartey screaming out to play and be the new Mahrez and Kante. The futures bright for us, if some don't want to be a part of it then **** them, others will
EnglishOxide Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 I'm certain Kante and Mahrez are playing hardball on their contracts, just like Vardy. If they do leave though, it's no great disaster. Gray seems a like for like Mahrez replacement. And we have plenty of midfielders to cover the role of Kante. King, James, Inler, Amartey and Mendy are all capable of partnering Drinkwater, or even forming a midfield 3.

I can't believe what I'm hearing from our fans and it's exactly what I am worried about. The pride of sticking two fingers up to these big clubs is well and truly ebbing away. We shouldn't be so accepting of players treating us like this. It's the English, Premier League mentality. We're shit, we're nothing, and we accept the bigger clubs and players bullying us. The club have shown ambition, it's time for the fans to do the same. Kante, for example, is treating us like shit. great player or not we should show a bit of pride in our club. We're more important than them, don't forget that.

So long as we stay up, continue to build and strive to win things, I'm perfectly happy. Yes, good food for thought. We has fans,1st time as champions, take up our favourites, and get upset when those favourites are chased by other teams, and sadly take up that temptation. like you say, its how the club from here carries on and ambitions and infrastructures, are developed and drove forward. The title brings other challenges, also for the character of all the players who honour their old and new contracts.Have they enough in them, to take up the challenge and play like champions, and show their sporting peers, we are still here and ready to take us those few more steps further. We can be sad when a favourite goes, but in these special times, with a top manager in place, we should not be fearfull.....We put the copyright on fearless.!!! Its our club, our fans ethos, not that of what any single player gives us. We are the collective...its the Vardys, the Drinkwaters, the Schupps/Albrightons and Morgans, that enabled us to spread the fearless suprises, the icings can be changed at the last moment, its the base ingredients, that give us our solidity and meaning. If it to be we lose our odd favourite, remember this where were they, how was their game when our great run began, and who would you rather have at this moment.. A couple of the favourites or Claudio Ranieri with this management . This is where our owners have come into their own.. We might lose a favourite, but our owners have shown finances with thought are there to fish new ones out of the pond. We kept our special goalscorer and added another talented proven netbuster. These type of players one misses...

BlueSi13 Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 If we lose Kante and Mahrez and West Ham United keep hold of Payet then something is seriously wrong with our negotiation strategy IMO.

dylanlegend Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 If we lose Kante and Mahrez and West Ham United keep hold of Payet then something is seriously wrong with our negotiation strategy IMO. I do find it strange that Payet is staying as WH as he wants to play in the Olympic stadium (even though he's 29 and one big contract left) but Kante and Mahrez are happy to leave the PL champions who have champions league football next year. To be fair 80k a week is an insult to Mahrez. Are we showing a lack of ambition or just Being cautious?
st albans fox Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 I'm pretty sure that if he signs a deal at 100k, there will be a release clause around 40 mill. If he signs for 80k then expect the RC to be as low as 30m. If we pay him more, the clause will go higher. Would be amazed if he agrees to sign without a RC
mozartfox Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Amazing that we cannot ship out dross, if we so wish, but can lose a player at the whim of a greedy agent. So heavily biased against Clubs nowadays with contracts being seemingly worthless to the detriment of Clubs. We should not blame Rudders as he is not the ring-master in the Circus. Gordon Fvcking Taylor needs to shut up next time a Club gets accused of shafting a player.

Guest MattP Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Like it or not, London is a massive draw... You could live in London and play for Leicester, we are just over an hour away.
EverybodyDannsNow Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Unlike the Kante situation, if we don't want to sell Mahrez then we don't have to sell Mahrez. I know Ranieri has said that he doesn't want unhappy players but there has to come a time when you put up a fight, else at this rate we'll have no one on the pitch in August.
fuchsntf Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 You could live in Leicester and play in London, its just a different planet. For a Chelsea/W.Ham..etc young foreign players within ten minutes, heaven is waiting.. Within 1 hour you could have lived so many lifes.!!,

I know Ranieri has said that he doesn't want unhappy players but there has to come a time when you put up a fight, else at this rate we'll have no one on the pitch in August. Again like I said in the Schlupp there, if he has a release clause (and hey what player do we have that doesn't have a release clause, so it seems?!) we unfortunately do. The fact no club has activated a release clause with Mahrez suggest's he hasn't got one, but it doesn't sit easy with me that our players seem litter with stupidly low release clauses.

In the same way as a club buying a player from a club to stop that other club from having better players (e.g.sterling), we could stop arsenal getting a quality player by keeping Mahrez and drop him down to the development team never to be heard of again, it's not in anyones interest, but it wouldn't half piss his agent off, and it seems money is no object anymore.
