Tielemans63 Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 According to this wholly reliable source we have pulled out as Norwich want £20 million and we don't want to pay that: http://ht.ly/r7zY30238AB
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Overpay and sell cheap... it's been the Leicester way for as long as I can remember. Overpay? Mahrez, Gray, Amartey, Drinkwater, Huth, Fuchs are all bargains of recent memory. To be honest I cant think of anyone we've sold in the recent past that has proved to have been bad business? Personally I think our transfer policy is excellent compared to other clubs.
Aus Fox Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Overpay and sell cheap... it's been the Leicester way for as long as I can remember. Sell cheap Like we did with Nuggent or Wood, the only two I can remember us selling recently, made profit on both. Overpay like we did with Mahrez, Kante, Vardy, Morgan, Albrighton etc etc. Kramaric is the only player recently who fits this mould and I'm not sure we overpaid for him, just didn't work out for him here.
Rusko187 Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Rudkin: We'll pay 11m Norwich: 12 Rudkin; 20 Not forgetting the obligatory £20m buyout clause.

This. Was it ever clarified what we actually paid for Kramaric?
Devonfox1884 Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 This. Was it ever clarified what we actually paid for Kramaric? I thought it was £7m with add-ons?

Perhaps I should stipulate that I'm talking more in general over the last 37 years of supporting us, rather than just the last few years. But many of them I'd put down to good scouting, rather than us managing to actually negotiate a good deal on someone. If we sold a Mahrez, do we think we're doing to wangle a great deal for ourselves? We already know about the release clauses for Kante and Vardy which, whilst providing us a profit would actually have been shockingly under value in today's market. We never seemed to get as good deal as we saw others getting for their players. Especially on the selling side of things, that's something I've thought for years. Inler, Benny, Kramaric, Ulloa, Okazaki certainly aren't going for more than we paid. They were all shit deals and we overpaid for all of them. In fact they all cost about as much as we'd have got for Vardy and Kante if we sold them this summer.

Ulloa and Okazaki were fairly priced and considering their performances and what they've contributed and what we've achieved in the time they've been here, 'shit deals' seem incredibly harsh.Regards Inler, we'll never know if he was any good as he didnt get a chance to play as others seized their chance. I wouldnt say £5m for an established international captain was too high either. Benny and Kramaric i'd concede but it certainly isnt a trend I personally see. Over the years I cant think of many players I thought we've let go cheaply and regards other clubs, I must say I dont really take too much notice of what other clubs pay for players apart from the headline signings and there are certainly plenty of those that have been far too high. Carroll to Liverpool Shevchenko to Chelsea Robinho to Man City Di Maria to Man Utd Johnson to Forest McCormack to Fulham Etc etc. Maybe its just the case that nobody is particularly bad or particularly good. The market is just what it is?
foxes21 Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Ulloa, Okazaki certainly aren't going for more than we paid. They were all shit deals and we overpaid for all of them. Ulloa helped us stay in the league with his goals. Okazaki and Ulloa then both played key roles in helping us win the league. On that basis I wouldn't call them shit deals, or overpaid. I'd have paid double the 16 or so million we got them both for, as without their contribution we wouldn't have won the league.
mozartfox Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Adi Akinbiyi was a snip now looking back at what we paid for him.
MPH Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 It horrifies me the thought of paying 20 million for him. But we have to ask the questions.. will it help us to achieve our goals this season? or are there just as good options for the same price or cheaper that will want to come to our club?
Babylon Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Ulloa helped us stay in the league with his goals. Okazaki and Ulloa then both played key roles in helping us win the league. On that basis I wouldn't call them shit deals, or overpaid. I'd have paid double the 16 or so million we got them both for, as without their contribution we wouldn't have won the league. Look, I'm just going off opinion at the point of signing them. People did not like what we paid for them, going off what others were going for at the time. We paid more than their market value really was. McCormack put in almost twice as many goals as Ulloa did and only went for a million or two more (Ulloa was in his last year as well). Okazaki was nearing 30, that's very good money for an unproven prem striker of that age, and whilst we might have won the league, I'm not sure he's lived up to that fee in performances... despite people claiming he helped set up loads of goals by running around a lot. It all worked out great, I'm not saying they are bad signings, but it won't change my mind that we overpaid for them somewhat.
Grewks Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Don't want to pay £20 million for a player who isn't an improvement on what we have. Will he improve squad depth? Yes. But is he really an improvement on Albrighton and Schlupp? I'm not so sure. Would rather sign a specialist full back than another utility wide man, if Chilwell leaves of course.
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 It's a sellers market. Expect fees like these and more... Actually, following the Prem is making me feel highly immoral. I'll still do, I love football, but it feels almost dirty. To get back to Robbie Brady...like Keane, he's young and will probably only get better. If that's what we have to pay, that's what we have to pay. I like Brady. I like his effort and his attitude and his wand-like left foot.

You started off by saying they were all shit deals.Stop back tracking you dry slice.

Brady is not better than Albrighton and Schlupp currently. I don't see how buying him for his potential to improve is sensible given that that potential is not really any bigger than Albrighton's or Schlupp's is, neither of whom are necessarily at their primes yet either. It's an utterly nonsensical fee to pay for a player who will probably be 4th or 5th choice winger like Nathan Dyer was last season and could easily barely even play for us.

Neither you nor I have much idea how he'd be used. And I trust the club to be signing the correct type of player. Apart from the Sven years we've done amazingly in this respect.I reiterate, it's a sellers market. What was value last season has moved on a notch. If people are making these posts out of concern that the owners are suddenly going to ruin the club, I've not seen any evidence of this. They have lots of money. Obscene amounts I simply think we are building a bigger squad. And to do so, it appears that at present, you've gotta pay.

Yes, but we're not going to pay £20m for Robbie Brady when we've handed CSKA Moscow £16m for Ahmed Musa. It's all about relations. It may be a seller's market, but we've unearthed gems before and we will continue to do so (in patches).

Maybe the club feel we need a replacement on the left side, or maybe they just like the bloke. Maybe they just want more home grown players for the Champs League? I'm assuming Norwich don't want to sell him or if they do they are going to push the asking price up. I have no idea why Musa went for 16 mill, have you? The point I'm making is two fold. 1. Unearthing gems can only happen if there are gems to unearth. 2. I trust us to get who we want and to pay what we need to pay. Personally, I'd pitch Brady as a 10 million quid player. But I ain't holding the purse strings or running the club. I imagine last year's 10 mill equates to this year's 15-20 mill. It seems that way.
Soar Fox Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Imagine spending nearly £40 million on Robbie Brady & Michael Keane lol
simon789us Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 No thanks decent players but we are in champions league man can and hopefully do better
mozartfox Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 I will be glad when we can close this thread down. it is worrying that Norwich think we are mugs enough to pay so much for so ordinary ability.
Buzzell Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Imagine spending nearly £40 million on Robbie Brady & Michael Keane lol We nearly spent £30m on Troy Deeney!
