Phube Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 I know we were so successful last year with 4-4-2. But looking at our signings and who we're supposedly looking at and assuming we don't loose people. It smacks of going 3-5-2 (at least in some games). I also know Claudio came and bought last year expecting to play 3-5-2 (Benny and Inler etc.) Now look at our CB's: Huth, Morgan, Was, Hernandez. Looking at Keane. Surely 5 CB's is a lot for 2 places. As mentioned in the Mendy thread: CM's- Drinky, Kante (please!), Mendy, James, Inler, King. 6 a lot for 2 places. Then there's the utility wide men: Amartey, looking at Brady. I could easily see a team (in the tougher games or Champions league) like this: GK - Kasper RWB - Amartey/Albrighton CB - Hernadez CB - Huth CB - Morgan LWB - Fuchs/Brady DCM - Mendy CM - Drinkwater CM - Kante CAM/CF - Mahrez/Musa/Slimani etc. CF - Vardy Would give us a very solid defence but still with a rapid counter. Thoughts?
Phube Posted 3 July 2016 Author Posted 3 July 2016 No. And Amartey at RWB when we have Albrighton? I forgot Albrighton... He could easily do a job on the right as well!
AyewJoking Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 No. Won't work in the champions league imo theres a separate thread for Man utd.
Ashley Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Schmeichel Simpson Huth Morgan Fuchs Marhez Kante Mendy Drinkwater Gray Vardy
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 3-5-2 is such a sexy formation when it works it REALLY works and the football is great. Problem is when teams go one up top it kinda makes 3 CB's redundant but if teams match us with a 4-4-2 like Liverpool away and are doing a job on us would like to see this in our locker.
sdb Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Wouldn't be against it as an alternative but be strange to change it up given we've just won the premier league I'll never tire of saying that
tsintskaro Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 I thought about that watching Konte's Italy yesterday Hernandez-Huth-Morgan Kante Mendy Mahrez drinky Musa ??? Vardy oh you wrote same, did not read
Phube Posted 3 July 2016 Author Posted 3 July 2016 I'm not saying it's what I want, but we do seem to be overstocking on CB's and CM's, more than just squad strengthening?
davieG Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Remember the wise words of Mr Hodgson formations don't win you games.
Webbo Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Didn't Ranieri say he didn't like that formation when he tried it pre season last year?
lgfualol Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Kasper New RB Morgan Huth Fuchs Drinkwater Kante (pls) Mendy Mahrez Vardy Musa Subs: Zieler, Schlupp, Hernandez, Amartey, Brady, Ulloa, King CL winners Is what I want
ThaiFox Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Remember the wise words of Mr Hodgson formations don't win you games. spot on........playing players in the wrong positions, letting the P/L leading scorer take corners, picking players out of form or lacking fitness, picking players from your favourite teams......now THAT wins matches. Look how we slaughtered all those teams at the EURO's to win the tournament........
Babylon Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Didn't Ranieri say he didn't like that formation when he tried it pre season last year? Yes... No chance of it happening IMO.
themightyfin Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Not a chance of switching to 3-5-2 4-4-2 is here to stay
filbertstreet Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 ranieri's going to bring back the old 2-3-5 formation back
ramadaone Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 For the final time 4-3-3 Can't say as I agree with it but that's what I'm being told will be our preferred formation this coming season if we can get the right personnel in Answers on a postcard with what's wrong with 4-4-2
It'sblueupnorth Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Ranieri has always played 4-4-2. Don't think he will change it to be honest
KFS Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 For the final time 4-3-3 Can't say as I agree with it but that's what I'm being told will be our preferred formation this coming season if we can get the right personnel in Answers on a postcard with what's wrong with 4-4-2 Are we to expect many more incomings after Musa?
Dodgy Bob Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Can't see the point in going 352. You take away a significant amount of the wide attacking threat in order to play an extra centre back. Conceding goals isn't our problem anymore so it would be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. If we go 433 I'd expect it to be quite fluid and with emphasis on maintaining width. We played close to a 433 at times last season with Okazaki dropping back and at least Mahrez and sometimes Albrighton pushed forward. I can't see the point in changing the formation at all though. If it isn't broke then don't fix it.
