sphericalfox Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 We signed that Spanish lad a few weeks back, you see the odd one signed specifically for the U21's. But when we're buying them in late just for the U21's, they've generally not done much... although you only need one to worth to make it all worth while. I'd imagine we want to focus on getting better quality in very young and developing it better. That has to be the aim of the Cat 1 status. Not following the Man City and Chelsea route of paying millions for 18 years olds. So we might have just signed on the next Ronaldo for the under 10's, but we'll never hear about it. We at the very last under 21s game saved our bacon from relegation. That needs to be addressed. I totally understand that it will come through long term via the 18s (and hopefully even further below), but it does feel like there's a gap that will need filling in the interim. We've not got the youngest team in the world at the minute.
Babylon Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Not bothered by this at all, I'm happy to get a fee for him. I went to all our League Cup games last season and despite his brilliant goal and hattrick against Bury and his goal against West Ham I wasn't impressed with his play as daft as that may sound. I think in five years time he'll be mid table Championship level at the very best but probably League One standard. He's a year older than Demarai Gray and not anywhere near his level. Dodoo wasn't going to make it at Leicester so any fee for him is half decent business. I agree, his general play wasn't great in those games. Watched a few u21 games and I was quite impressed at times. Was one of those that was brilliant for 5 minutes and gash the other 85.

I think our issue was we had a very old u21 team compared to others, they were often playing u18's and we'd have your 3/4 pros in there as well. Last season we lost quite a few of the older guys, loaned a few better ones out and I didn't think we used as many pros as we had previously either. So there seemed quite a bit of change. 100% agree it's not quite right at the minute.

Realist Guy In The Room Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Dodoo and Waghorn up front. I hope they tear that league apart.
foxinsocks Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Spl is like div 1.... with us he is in yhe shop window. .. look what rashford achieved. He would be mad to take a perminent move

He would be mad to take a perminent move He's no Rashford though. I bet he starts under half a dozen games for Rangers this season. He's probably being rated on his Bury hattrick and West Ham goal.
baldeagle Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Or we offered a contract so that if he joins a lower league club in England we'd get a fee?Either way if we rated him we would have offered him a decent contract to stay and if he had confidence in his own ability he would be up for trying to push his way into the first team for cup games etc . And as others have said there are others the same age or younger at a higher level

sm1 Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Like others have said, he was anonymous in our title winning celebrations even though the likes of kramaric, Benny, Moore and Chilwell were there. I think he made up his mind awhile ago he was leaving, hence didn't want anything to do with the team.
Gerard Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 You're telling me an attacking player is being rated on his goals? No way A very small sample size though. Robson Kanu could have scored more goals than Bale in the Euros but it doesn't mean he's the better player if he did. Dodoo also got no goals in four games for Bury on loan last season.

Freeman's Wharfer Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Bit of a shame we couldn't tie him down for a year or two, send him out on loan and see how he did. Seemed like a goalscorer to me last season - all round play might not be great but he was taking chances and putting goals away when they came up for him.
mozartfox Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 not bothered in the slightest about this. Great if we lock this thread.
Wymsey Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 A shame he won't be staying with the coaches improving his game here and eventually even maybe competing for squad place. The young reserves seem to be the victims of the club's success.
MikeyT Posted 19 July 2016 Posted 19 July 2016 Yep signed for Rangers on a 4 year deal. Rangers FC @RangersFC 10m10 minutes ago #RangersFC are today delighted to confirm the signing of attacker Joe Dodoo http://rng.rs/2adDqSO #GoingFor55
BigWesMorgan Posted 19 July 2016 Posted 19 July 2016 Didn't see him ever getting into the 1st team so a good deal all round.

weller54 Posted 19 July 2016 Posted 19 July 2016 How much did we get for him I wonder? Release clause... £50?
