Quite concerned about us not having got an attack minded CM really, vital to how we play, can't expect all creativity to come from the wings. Maybe King can step up and I'm hoping Matty James will play his part sooner than later as he's a top talent

James and King!..

We're PL champions and competing in the CL..

Those two are Championship standard players!

I believe Petrovic will be playing for our B team. Otherwise we need that squad depth if we want to stand a chance in the Champions League.
Don't forget we just ditched some "dead weights" who were wheighing a lot on our wage sheet...

True that.

Still, I wonder how things are gonna be now. I, for one, won't boo him, but I know I won't cheer for him the same way.

Jorge Jesus threatened to quit at Sporting if they sold Adrien apparently. Gone for one hour and people are going nuts.

That's bullocks. Jesus is more than used to losing players every transfer season, he knows how it works, but more importantly, he knows our president won't make any deals that don't benefit the club.

I'm thinking about all the games. There's loads to play.

James was always just ok when completely fit. He was part of a two man central midfield that nearly got relegated. I don't think he's the answer for a team who are seeded in the Champs league.

Amartey looks good, but just on the one meaningful showing. Mendy could be good...but who knows?

I maintain if Drinkwater gets injured, it's in that area we could well fall short. It would have been so good to really get quality in there. Not someone fighting to regain fitness, not someone to 'grow into the role', but an established, quality central midfielder.

Are you telling me Jesus wept?

Look no 1 can tell me we needed a striker more than a cm surley the club could see that we could of just payed the 25 mil for nzonzi instead of spending 30 mil on a striker i really dont think we need

Look, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Out of all the position that we needed more players i think striker was the the only position i think we had enough strength  i thats the 1 area we go and buy another player there crazy

Trying to stop myself feeling disappointed about not bringing in another CM. Thought we'd go for a RB too, but the way we play means we can get away with having fairly limited players in the back line.

That's not the case with CM though, our system revolves around high intensity, regaining the ball quickly, driving forward before the opposition can reset, creativity, directness and dynamism. A couple of injuries, and we'll be down to an often ineffective King, unfit James and unproven (although he was excellent at the weekend) Amartey. And we'd have to play them 3 times a week. Surely we should have just paid the N'Zonzi release clause? After the Slimani deal and Silva rumours, that £25m would actually look like a shrewd bit of business lol

James is as injury prone as Wilshere, players like him never hit their potential because they don't get enough game time. I didn't rate James in the great escape season and I can't see him ever improving due to his injuries. I'd ship him out on loan like Wilshere has done.

He played consistently for three years before a bad injury. Hardly comparable.

Sorry, disagree completely. People would have said that about Drinky. James and King are more proven than Amartey at thia level, but he's foreign of course.....

Can everyone shut up? I'm getting sick of refreshing this and just seeing bullshit posts?!

Yes I'm aware this isn't helping, but still. Can we hold our tongues so something worthwhile can be posted. lol

£20m for Cattermole should do it.

King is fine if you want someone to come on and settle things in the last 20 minutes. He is not top premier league, nor champions league standard in my eyes. I love the guy but he is not attack minded.

Posted

What bugs me most, is that being in the Champions League and current Premier Champions, with money to spend - I really don't think we will get a better chance to attract some TOP players and I feel we have missed a great opportunity as Champ Leagues football is such a pull for top players. I think it is bad business from us to go after a player so hard, and not have alternative targets. CM was the position more than any other we needed to strengthen and there are a lot of players out there and I am so surprised we didn't sign one. Frustrating!

Those people would have been morons then.

Drinkwater was the best CM in the league when we were promoted and it was a big shock how poorly he performed in his first Prem season. He's obviously stepped up and done what we believed he could do.

James was playing to his standard before he got injured which is bang average. I like the guy but we've moved on.

King is only here for sentiment. He probably wouldn't even start for WBA and that's not even being sarcastic.

That's about the most childish response you've given in ages.

I think this thread is probably getting to you to be honest, you'd be best to ignore it.

why are people suddenly shitting it if Drinky gets injured? Was it not the same scenario last year where we had no one who was like for like who could step in?

More games to play. Could go out the CL if we have to play King or James.

we weren't in the CL or trying to compete expecting to compete at the top. If drinky had have got injured we likely wouldn't have won the league
