We've signed Mendy and Amartey to cover midfield and Hernandez to cover defence. Why is it you are totally unprepared to give them a chance? Is it because they didn't cost enough? Because you hadn't heard of them? Personally I'd have sacked of Was and got another in, but we chose to stick with him as 4th or 5th choice. He's never let us down too badly.

So many reports of a double swoop and us meeting the release clause and also his earlier comments about joining us. I'm guessing their President had a lot to do with it. Maybe breaking a promise to Silva that if a Prem club came in for him, he would be allowed to go. The release clause was about 10-15m too high but I hope we don't regret not just paying it! Maybe our only appearance in the Champions League. Would have been nice to have been as strong as realistically possible and a Silva surely would have improved us. Ah well. Step forward Amartey!

Kaputska and Mendy can both be attacking CM, it is not just Amartey, King and James. We have cover.

Don't confuse wanting to keep improving with being short. We aren't short of players, Mendy, Amartey, King, Drinkwater, James, Kapustka all capable of playing there we're told... Three of whom have played what, a grand total of what 145 minutes for us in CM so far.
STUHILL Posted 31 August 2016 Posted 31 August 2016 We kept hold of Jeff and Ulloa, which is good, as they will be needed no doubt, especially if we have any injuries. If we can make it to the January window with Drinky and Amartey/Mendy doing the business, then it's all good!

NeilLCFC Posted 31 August 2016 Posted 31 August 2016 Shame we didn't sign a CM, but I think we'll be OK. We have a number of players who can fill this position, granted they aren't proven, but I have enough faith in our scouting, that at least one of them will step up if required.

4everfox Posted 31 August 2016 Posted 31 August 2016 Is it just me who thinks a centre back should have been our priority? As a few posters have already mentioned we have Drinkwater, Mendy, Amartey, King, James and Kapustka who can all be utilised in the central midfield role (although one more big signing wouldn't have been harmful as Kapustka is naturally a wide player and James is apparently far from full fitness). In the centre of defence we have got Morgan and Huth as our only two competent players. Phil Jones would have been perfect.
