Another fantastic match report from Martin Samuel at the Mail, who wrote beautifully about us last year.

The Mail's foul politics notwithstanding, they don't reach down to the sports desk, and the sport editor obviously encourages his reporters to really write. Other papers please watch and take note

SUPER STAT

10 - English teams have participated in the Champions League - Leicester are the only one to win their first ever away game in the group stage.

That's a fantastic piece of journalism! It is very pro-Leicester, but it's also pro-underdog and about the beauty of the game. The thing that makes me most proud of our achievements is that we did it without spending Billions to achieve our success. There is a large core of our team that played in the Championship together and that team spirit still shines through. Our story is genuinely motivational... if it had happened to another mid-table club like Southampton or Stoke or West Brom I would be happy for them. But the fact it happened to us... I feel lucky to witness it.

I was really impressed by our controlled nature of play. That's a real sign of maturity and great to see. It means we can dictate play and make the necessary adjustments during a game. What did annoy me was the amount of headers from defence headed back into the middle when a simple ball out to the line would have retained possession.

Amartey done fine but then was not under the kind of pressure he was on Saturday. But all part of his learning and I think he's going to be a big player for us. When he's settled in he'll get forward for a few goals of his own.

Albrighton was brilliantly effective and demonstrated why he's one of the first names on the Teamsheet. He always has the right attitude.

Slimani brought pretty much what I thought he would. When he's had time to know the lads and improves his fitness he'll be a great addition. The simple wall pass where he set up Mahraz with a chance. That's the kind of interplay we've badly been missing. As it a simple move but does take defenders out of play and crearts goals.

I was also really impressed with Gray when he came on. He showed real maturity and proves he's learning quickly. I'm pleased we didn't let him out on loan because we can coach and manage his development without the added pressure of him having to perform every game.

Mussa also showed another side to his play and was unlucky not to score.

Hernandaz is a strange one as he doesn't look as good as Benny who never really got a chance. On the other hand his long trows are such a weapon that could create 5 to 10 Goal a season. If we had a top defender I'd say play the defender but we don't, we have decent defenders with different qualities. And so in some games anyway i see it as a risk and reward. Simpsons defending against Hernandaz's throw In's. Such are the fine margins Managers have to make decisions on.

Nice article although i think he does a disservice to Slimani by scoring him a 5.5. I thought Slim did everything expected of him and if Mahrez had let him take the penalty as Claudio wanted, he could have scored as well. Loved these two paragraphs.

"Just five minutes gone, and they were ahead. It was one of those goals that purists sneer at, an old fashioned long throw causing chaos. Yet Leicester are long past caring about the snobs. It is not for the champions to temper their game to some aesthetic vision of European football. It is for the continent to find a way of dealing with this unique challenge."

"If the Belgians had underestimated them, they are fools. There are no bad champions of England, no weak holders of the Premier League title."

Vardy was absolutely immense last night. God I love him. He tore them to pieces. Slimani looks like he's going to make a wonderful partnership with him up front. The Burgges defensive players faces had the look of shock and despair after playing against Vardy for 75 mins. Their Captain Simons got destroyed. What a brilliant night.

What a game. I was lucky enough to be there, a fantastic experience all-round. Up there with Man City last season as my favourite ever away trip.

We even managed to score a free-kick! :scarf:

tonight again shows Jamie Vardy is a footballer like absolutely no other there has ever been. He absolutely ruined them. You can do all the prep and think you know everything about his game but that first time you play against him as a defender or a goalkeeper you're going to resort to bringing him down after he gets to the ball first in a seemingly impossible situation.

Nobody in the conference could deal with it. Nobody in the championship could deal with it. He'll never be able to do that in the premier league up against cultured, accomplished defenders. Nobody in the premier league could deal with it. We've got global recognition now people are wise to that. Turns out nobody in the champions league is gonna be able to handle our not even very secret weapon. What a hero.

He is ridiculous at what he does. It wasn't even that wayward a pass for the penalty but as soon as he took his first touch it was either goal or penalty and he was 40 yards out.

I reckon about 500 without tickets. I would be surprised if any got in. No evidence of touts. Very drunken in a small square behind the main square but zero police evidence and no trouble apart from a few drunken handbags. Wonderful to be part of it it, and all good

Loads more than 500.Must have been 250+ in the pub we were in.

Brilliant result. Made up big time for Anfield. Bruges were shockingly bad but we controlled the game really well. My only concerns were Hernandez getting outpaced and Slimani's (and Ulloa's) heavy touches, which would have been punished by a team better at exploiting 'turnover' possession (e.g. Liverpool).

Organisation and discipline are important but what makes the difference at the top level is real quality (as Celtic found out v Barcelona), and in Vardy's pace and Mahrez's skill we have two massive assets. Keeping those two at the club was more important than any new signings. If they can repeat last season's form (and they did against Bruges) we will worry any team we face. In any competition.

Kante's still a huge miss, mind. I wonder if he was watching last night. A penny for his thoughts...
