Blue ROI Posted 15 September 2016 Posted 15 September 2016 That was a majestic night. Had Brugge taken that first chance the story might have been different but when we got going we played some great stuff. Didn't know what to expect and was a bit nervous on current form but it was one of the most satisfying nights I've ever had as a Leicester City fan. Better yet the only supporter out on the town and a few onlookers shouting come on Leicester and a pub playing Return of the Mack. I expected more from Club Brugge given Belgiums youth system but they were well below par. Albrighton had possibly his best ever game for Leicester and was I thrilled for him to get a goal. Vardy's pace was something that Brugge couldnt deal with and while Mahrez isnt quite where we hoped he would be this season, well you cant argue with the 2 sublime finishes. Drinkwater his usual self and Amertey also quite good. I wasnt too impressed with Slimani I have to say. A Collymore like start was asking for a lot but his touch looks a bit off and you would expect him to do more given how mediocre Brugge were even if he was still playing for Sporting Lisbon. Hopefully he'll come good soon. A better team will also take that opening chance and heads could drop like at Anfield. Hernandez struggled and I'd have my doubts if he can become a reliable player for the club. All in all very decent. Tough game ahead against Porto regardless of how they did last night but a great way to start.
brucey Posted 15 September 2016 Posted 15 September 2016 At least Ranieri made it clear in his post match interviews (at least 3 of them) that he didn't think Leicester's performance was that great (even if the result was).
brucey Posted 15 September 2016 Posted 15 September 2016 http://www.voetbal24.be/wasilewski-daagt-fans-van-club-brugge-keihard-uit/ When Polish defender had to warm up, he did so ostentatiously with his socks down, because then everyone could see his tattoo with the Anderlecht logo on it. The Club fans responded with boos, but a few seconds later Mahrez curled the 0-2. Wasyl responded with a grin on his face and showed his two fingers zero towards the Bruges audience.
Dan Posted 15 September 2016 Posted 15 September 2016 I normally always find something that would've improved the day. I'm struggling to think of a single one. What an amazing experience. So excited for the next two and happy that we're almost certainly going to have more afterwards. Fantastic. I felt so proud after yesterday.
NewEnglandFox Posted 16 September 2016 Posted 16 September 2016 €1.5m bonus from UEFA for winning a group stage game. Crazy stuff.

The Mail's foul politics notwithstanding, they don't reach down to the sports desk, and the sport editor obviously encourages his reporters to really write. Other papers please watch and take note http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3789621/Club-Bruges-0-3-Leicester-City-Foxes-perfect-start-Champions-League-debut.html Thanks for posting this. I am in Malayia now and just bought the local daily and they have devoted 2 full pages to us under the heading of 'Flying Foxes'. Amazing the exposure we are receiving compared with 12 months ago. Just hope we can beat Burnley now.
Koke Posted 16 September 2016 Posted 16 September 2016 The lad Slimani pushed unnecessarily is now out for 6 months. Bit of a **** move by Slimani. It was not needed.

Yeah, I thought that was a bit naughty at the time. Looked like he landed on the tip of his shoulder ,(did the same coming off my bike, fcuked it right up)

I don't know if the rules are as bullshit as they are in England. But, as he was booked, does that mean he can't be retrospectively banned? Was a really shitty thing to do. Completely needless.

Hope he gets an LCFC one.

Give the guy a chance.

Yeah, quite the d*ck move by Islam, but then again, what about all the uncalled for tackles by Bruges players throughout the game? Referee turned a blind eye there. I've seen Club Bruges fans calling Slimani names on Facebook - go sweep in front of your own door first!
brucey Posted 16 September 2016 Posted 16 September 2016 hope at least that will make Slim think twice about engaging in stupid unnecessary violence in the future, and reduce the risk of unnecessary cards / sending offs

Slim gives the guy a little push and he fell funny. It must happen hundreds of times every weekend and 99.9% get up without a scratch. Not like he did a Roy Keane and tried to break his legs.

It was a quite obvious and malicious push that sent the player into the goalkeeper. Definitely warranted a yellow which he got.
KFS Posted 16 September 2016 Posted 16 September 2016 Take out a player weakening the opposition for the return leg at the expense of a yellow card? I'd do it

I'd do it Engels will be out for three months, possibly longer! http://clubbrugge.be/nl/nieuws/22434/blessure-update-bjorn-engels But I get your point - fantastic strategical thinking, was probably instructed to do so by Wasilewski beforehand.
ealingfox Posted 16 September 2016 Posted 16 September 2016 Unnecessary violence sylo is right, it was barely even a foul and happens in loads of games. You must have noticed the ref wasnt going to book him until the bloke started crying and the Brugge players started whinging. He landed on it awkwardly and thats what caused the injury, not the push itself. As long as he can retain control over it and be clever, I think it could be good for us having a forward with a bit of menace to be a bit of a bully here and there. Not sure about all the people hyping up his performance though, aside from a couple of good flick-ons he was average at best. Not going to judge him yet of course.

Had Slim pushed him and scored and obviously not seen by the ref most would not care. But some would like it to be none contact and played by ballerinas.

Funny how some see games so differently, Huth in one paper was our lowest rated player but he makes the ESPN team of the week.
