Manwell Pablo Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 I can't see a thread for this anywhere apologies if I have missed it. This is tomorrow night. Surely minimal involvement from anyone currently involved in the first team setup or imminently going off to play in the international break. Maybe Benny will finally turn up and Matty James might get another run. England U21s have a game Thursday so Gray/Chillwell probably not involved, Kapustka probably off with Poland....similar situation to the last round of fixtures I know why we are playing this week but it does seem rather pointless to have Prem/Champ U21 teams in if our most promising younger players can't play.
lgfualol Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 Love how Kapustka cant get on the bench here but will be starting for Poland

Seems to be doing alright for Poland and from what i saw against Southampton, he cant do any worse than anyone on that pitch if he gave more than 10% effort.
Fox92 Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 Had a 'soft spot' for Grimsby ever since I went in 2002 and saw Izzet score the best Leicester goal ever in front of me. Blundell Park in a league or cup game? Yes. But for this 'u23' competition? No.
foxy boxing Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 one time I went Grimsby away the match was called off and we didn't know until we got there, we thought about having a look around the place but we just decided to come straight back. at least I've got the memory of that day and can laugh bout it now
CosbehFox Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 The scheduling (every international break) is one of the major factors some of the top sides didn't bother with fielding teams in it. A club like Liverpool will have youth squads who have various call-up's. So in reality there's no development of young players as they can't even field them. Chelsea got special dispensation to play their games away from the allocated dates.
Dan Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 I thought they were getting rid of the youth teams from this? Or is that next year?

I don't think they've said for certain either way. Although one would like to imagine common sense will kick in and they competition can go back to how it was. As I say don't see what the lower league teams get out of it and if we can't play our best youngsters because of the international break can't see what we get out of it.
Dan Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 It's a typically short-sighted structure. The fact they've binned it already says it all really. There's no conviction behind it what so ever.
weller54 Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 Drinky will probably play the full 90..and extra time if needed?
Webbo Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 It'll give fringe player some match practice and some youngsters some experience. Why all the moaning?

Most of our fringe players are away on international duty. Musa, Kaputska, King, Okazaki, as well as Gray and Chilwell with U21. Hernandez, Zieler and Ulloa might play though.
sylofox Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 I personally think it should be used to motivate young and up coming players. Pull your fingers out or say good bye to the KP. Then look forward to playing in this sort of ground every week.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 3 October 2016 Posted 3 October 2016 James, Kapustka, Musa, Wasyl all to play please

Filbert_Ross Posted 4 October 2016 Posted 4 October 2016 Looking for a couple of references for this.
Ted Maul Posted 4 October 2016 Posted 4 October 2016 I still can't get my head around clubs being able to field youth sides. For half the football league, it is their only chance of a Wembley cup final. Must be pretty frustrating to have the competition diluted like this.

So we'll play our future, and not quite good enough to be, internationals instead. It's basically a reserves match, what's the big deal?

Yeah to us, spare a thought to the League One and League Two clubs having a cup they like competing in completely devalued The big deal is it's pointless for us if we can't play our better youngsters, and football league clubs and fans don't want U23 sides in it, so no one is gaining anything out of this and the competition has no value at all.

Presumptuous knowing the lack of common sense of the people behind running this game. You'd of thought they'd of made sure or the academy's they wanted involved were actually interested but they didn't Even if so they've realised now, and the fans never wanted it I can assure you.

Have a word with yourself they'd played 7 games in 21 days with very little rotation, Claudios mistake he said so himself! So unless you're a supreme athlete and can show them how it's done I'd think about what you're saying.
