justfoxes Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Listening to the BBC football forum tonight thinking is this a bit much or is it Marty Elliott correct and he would leave Mahrez out even Vardy out of the next game against Sunderland and give some others a chance to shine your thoughts?? im all for playing our best players but we have some decent players in the wings such as kapustka who's been giving some great performances for both his country and u23's so when is it time to give him a chance??
Matt Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 I'd put both on the bench for a game or two definetly. People are abit split on Slimani but he's doing more than Vardy. And what has Gray/Kapustka/Musa gotta do to get in ahead of Mahrez, How poor has he got to play? How long are we going to give him?
ithuriel Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 I'd drop Mahrez to the bench and start with Vardy, benching one is a warning to both so there is little point in benching both at present. If Vards does not do the business, leave him with no doubt Slim will take his place second half. I'd tell the other players who are after those positions they are yours to take if you put in the performances once given the chance.

Let's not forget that on their day they are our 2 best players especially with DD out. I'd drop Mahrez too Gray deserves a start and Mahrez needs to be dropped to make a point. We need Vardy to get a goal and his confidence back quick
davieG Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 What about the other 9 plus players that are under performing ?
NewEnglandFox Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Drop. There is no such thing as resting under-performing players.
lgfualol Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Vardy hardly needs a rest from jogging around for a few games. I'd keep Mahrez in the team and see how he plays with Slimani against Sunderland. I'd like to see some nice balls whipped in for Slim's forehead.
Loves2spooge Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 I'd rest vardy Leicester's record when Islam Slimani starts: 5 Wins 1 Draw 2 Losses Without Slimani 2W 4D 6L He does all the little things that don't show up on the stat sheet , pressing and winning back a couple balls. has 5 goals and 2 assists in 703 minutes in 10 appearances in all competitions , he's involved in a goal every 100 minutes plus mahrez maybe incoherent but atleast he does stuff on the pitch , he tries and creates occasions lately more than vardy , and I like Jamie a lot but he needs to get his Szhit together
Milo Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Honestly don't think Mahrez has been as bad as people are saying. Would happily drop Albrighton and stick Gray on the right, though. Vardy has been shocking...anyone have his running stats compared to last year?
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 I wouldn't drop either. You don't drop the only creative fella in the team and the quickest striker at the club. Keep with em. And hope it all clicks.

But a more logical thing to do is dropping vardy instead of mahrez??. Because, 1- mahrez is our top goal scorer and in his worst game can take the attention of 2 or 3 players from the other team. 2- he is our only creative player in the squad. And 3- the replacement for vardy's position is better then mahrez's (slimani)

Bettsj2 Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Absolutely. Gray, Musa and Slimani look infinitely more dangerous at the minute.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Vardy and Mahrez are still the two players in our squad that can do damage to any opposition in this league. Without the key ingredient to allow them to that damage I.e. A quick turnover of possession, they either need to adapt in the same system or we need to find ways to make them as effective in an alternative system. I don't think there lack of form is simply fix by dropping them if they come back to the same handicap. I Would look to adapt the system to suit them. If that doesn't work, yes drop them but we do not have the luxury of being stubborn in our approach and not accommodating our two most influential players.
Durnerz Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Keep Slim up top and bench Vardy, the guy couldn't find the net at the moment even if we chucked him in it.
Buzzell Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 How's about starting with Mahrez up front with Slimani with Gray on one wing and Albrighton on the other against Sunderland?
Ricey Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Vardy and Mahrez themselves aren't the problem, the problem is that we have become too predictable with them in the team. Mix things up a little bit in regards to how we try to create chances and hopefully it will free them both up. They both need space to work with and they have had very little of it all season.
Ted Maul Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 I'd certainly drop Vardy, just doesn't look like he's bothered or that he will make anything happen. Mahrez, I think would start to improve once we change tactics and start playing better- once other players start causing defenders problems, he will get more space and create more openings. It's just not coming off for him at the moment, but he's trying and there are flashes of brilliance still.
ozvaldo Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 I'd do this (or something like this when we have a fully fit squad): 3-5-2 Kasper Hernandez, Huth, Wes, Albrighton, Mendy, Drinky, Amartey, Fuchs, Okazaki, Slimani - Slimani is a fantastic header of the ball. I'd like to see Albrighton and Fuchs whipping balls into him, whilst getting back to defend when they need to. - I think Drinky needs Mendy & Amartey either side of him to free him up & allow him to be the playmaker he needs to be. - Okazaki will drop deep when he needs to, to offer more support to the midfield. Musa, Gray, James, Vardy, Mahrez, Chilwell & Zieler

Musa, Gray, James, Vardy, Mahrez, Chilwell & Zieler I like the logic of your selection, and very much hope we get a look at that line up in a few weeks' time. Then of course you have the likes of Vardy, Gray and Musa to run at weary legs as they are introduced between 60 - 70 minutes. Chilwell might thrive in that set up too instead of Fuchs. He looks good going forward, so he can bomb on knowing he has a back three sitting deep, and Amartey to sit back when he goes forward.

I think it would offer much more stablility around the park - just what we need to get us through a tough patch.

Mahrez could also play where Okazaki is and drift anywhere he likes, because we have the protection behind. Question is, how far will Claudio take his stubbornness for 442? Will he outdo Nige?

Exactly. If it's a game where we need Okazaki to grind down the opposition, it suits him. Or if we can afford for Mahrez to play his expressive play, it also works.
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Drop them both. Yes, the midfield is our problem area but we are not in a position to drop from there or defence due to to having a shit squad. Up front we have plenty of options. Mahrez may do better in a free role so he can avoid the attentions of two of three defenders in his usual position on the right, but as someone said how bad does he have to be to get dropped? If you have three players around you that creates space elsewhere IF you pass the ball, but he just WILL NOT do that, and that is costing us. Did I read somewhere that all season Mahrez has passed to his forward team mate Vards once in terms of creating a chance for him? If true given the time he spends on the ball - that's shocking. Vardy for his part needs a wake up call - jogging around is no use to us whatsoever.
