Genk play an attacking 433 formation, and this fella so far seems to just sit in front of the back four and doesn't stray too much from there. Certainly not a dynamic Kante for us type game where he's all over the place. Perhaps more like Kante playing for France. The ball has bypassed his area a lot of the time, but when it has dropped near to be fair he is in quickly and does seem pretty nifty at getting a foot in. When he's on the ball he lays it of quickly and keeps the game moving. He also likes a quick straight forward pass to a strikers feet. Certainly not all safe balls, some good risky passes found their mark... but I'd expect a few strays if he's taking risks. Will watch more later! I just got a semi.

(Info from Kristof Terreur - Belgian sports journo). They get linked with every single young talent in Europe and never sign any of them. Having Manchester United in the title generates clicks and views etc.

I hate how people think he's some sort of long shot God. I just watched Amarteys highlights on YouTube and he scored about 3 amazing long shots. It's fair to say I haven't seen anything since.
Wymsey Posted 2 December 2016 Posted 2 December 2016 Would prefer a Yaya Toure-type midfielder, able to tackle successfully and drive both the ball and team forward. Though Ndidi would be fine as hardly the current DMs are strong in the tackle and often pass unnecessarily sideways.

Itsthejoeker Posted 2 December 2016 Posted 2 December 2016 Now that Steve Walsh has gone, who gets credit if a signing is good?

notnow john Posted 2 December 2016 Posted 2 December 2016 This lad might turn out ok but given our recent record of developing young players,I'm not that optimistic. Amarty Grey Kaputska Uche are not yet premier league standard and here is another player in the same mold. bought from a weaker league, where they were outstanding. Why are we devoid of coaches with the ability to fulfill the potential of young talent? I would prefer us to ditch "the project" and buy players who would make us a better team now!

Steve Walsh may well of had him marked down as one for the future.... and IF Steve Walsh was in any way involved then that might explain us moving quick to get him snapped up....
Barky Posted 2 December 2016 Posted 2 December 2016 An ability to "drive forward" seems to be a bit of a buzz phrase on here because Kante did it and now we miss it. But in reality, how many times did Kante actually do that? When he did, it looked amazing, it was an incredibly aesthetic thing to watch, so I think that's why it's sticks in the memory, but I don't actually recall him doing it that many times. Perhaps a dozen times over the whole season. It helped us create a few goals, but it wasn't what made Kante such an effective player. What made him an effective player was the extra layer of protection he provided the defence through his work rate and sixth sense at getting himself between the opposition player with the ball and where that player wanted the ball to go. Driving forward is great, it looks great, but it's not the main reason why we need to replace Kante.

If he's crap it'll be rudkin and ranieri.

Could even be a case of Genk actually holding him back. France & Chelsea (up until a couple of months ago) completely wasted Kante.
