Southampton (A) Post Match thread 3 - 0

So today was poor, we can't blame Zeiler, Amartey.

Tactics changed again with the formation................. as requested by many on here may I hasten to add.

I had a good feeling when I woke up today that todays the day.

Garbage

I'm only happy when we win ..................... No I don't want Claudio to go but I fear he will.

And those on the Field will be left with us .......... My respect for them is quickly vanishing as is the memory of last season.

Without Kante marauding just ahead of the back-four, the Foxes have shipped 37 goals already this year - one more than in ALL of their title-winning campaign.

In fact, Southampton had 17 shots against Leicester in their 3-0 win on Sunday, proving just how key now-Chelsea man Kante was at keeping opposing sides at bay.

What dickhead wrote this?

Very fitting that the game was on Sunday morning cos that was what is was a Sunday morning game after a night down Baileys.

Did we have a decent shot on goal? Didn't look remotely like a team just a bunch of lads charging around.First few minutes they were hurting us down both flanks and Cr did nothing about it .Okazaki was pants .Vardy a little better than recently .For any forward players to do 90 mins and not even get a shot on goal away is very very poorG ray has a lot to learn.DD looked to have the miseries with  everyone.Kasper was slightly out of position for the first beaten from well out with a pass really.

All in all dreadful.Only hope is Mahrez and Slim can help us scrape into safety best we can hope for.

Right then, just back as well, that certainly wasn't pretty observed from the half way line. First half we were poor, only spark of light was Vardy winning a few headers and generally trying to make something from very little, and Gray until the final product. I thought we were better first 20 of the second half, but without really threatening. Then we fell away again, though Morgan blazed our best chance over, and we'd have a chance if he scores. After that we were pathetic again.

Not many players come out of the whole 90 with any credit. Gray faded second half, and he ultimately failed to deliver in good positions. The defenders were all over the shop, Fuchs particularly just not at the races, Chilwell deserves to start ahead of him. Ndidi and Mendy both too defensive to start together, and Drinkwater was terrible. Albrighton showed he wasn't really the answer when he came on, Okazaki played the worst I've seen from him. At least Vardy had some spirit, but never looked like he thought anyone would help him.

What do we need? Stop conceding sloppy goals would be one, have more players who can hold the ball going forward for another, and more players capable of scoring wouldn't go amiss. We're only going to get out of this hole by all working hard for the team, and it's not happening at the moment.

Man, you remember Bailey's?

What a place that was. I used to go every week. Saw Mud, Slade , Four Tops, 3 Degrees, Paul Daniels... so many others. There should be a thread for it.

Para- I played for Baileys in the Hinckley sunday league morning after the night before .Used to meet on the Foxhunter car park and try to put together a team from those who were sober and not wanted by the law.

Like to think we put a bit more effort in than some did today.

When things aren't going well we need to stick to what we know we can do.

Today it was the right players.... but we needed to be tight defensively and let them come on to us so we could counter.  Thus means shingi pressing from the front as this sometimes turns the ball over or atleast worsens the ball in to mid field.  But we were trying to be far too open... and hence 2 down by ht.  I think we need to adopt the simpler plan....

Just a quick question for everyone who went today who are now rightly saying angry things.... why did the majority stand there and applaud?

I was in the Bristol city end at forest yesterday, they've lost 9 in a row and they rightly gave their players and manager shit!

Something has to be said.

If Ranieri doesn't know what's wrong and Drinky doesn't know what's wrong it's time to make some suggestions.

a) We've abandoned so many of the things which made us effective and eventually successful last season and failed to replace those things with anything of any merit or promise whatsoever.

b) Despite having money to burn we've failed to improve our quality in any notable way, never mind collectively. Put alongside the wasted wage increases our value for money return is a massive minus.

c) We started the season with entirely the wrong preparation and have never recovered.

d) So many things seem sloppy at the club now - people turning up late, poor preparation in various phases of the game, too many players focused on other things a rot has set in which, rather like woodworm, is difficult to eradicate.

e) We have no clear playing philosophy or pattern to our approach and virtually no collective cohesion as in moving backwards and forwards as a unit.

f) Our passing and ball control under pressure is sluggish and unreliable.

g) We have no chance of scoring sufficient goals because we never have enough potential scorers on the pitch at any one time.

h) As confidence has dropped there seems to be no-one in managerial or coaching authority to lift us psychologically - and no-one with sufficient wit to make a difference either on or off the pitch.

i) We don't pressure teams sufficiently or consistently and week in, week out we are constantly outfought or out-thought for the second balls. Today was an horrific example and the times we left opposition players on the edge of our own box with yards of clear space to shoot or thread a threatening pass was embarrassing.

j) Our set plays are totally lacking in accuracy and imagination together with virtually all of our final passes even on the rare occasions when there is sufficient threat - individually or numerically to be effective.

k) We last won points when Kingy was a starter and have started losing more abyssmally than earlier in the season with his recent absence. That's because Drinky's in perhaps the worst spell I've seen him have at Leicester and both his other central partners take far too long to control the pass the ball and even when they do they are inaccurate - which makes three indifferent performers in the engine room.

l) With so little pace - especially with Vardy's indifference this season and Gray's apparent lack of energy after about 25 minutes - so little goalscoring threat (including the sidelining of potential 10-goals a season Ulloa) and so little in the way of passing and moving we invite opponents to attack us at will. Today it was down the flanks and we were cut to pieces with Southampton often having five or six potential scorers either occupying our over-pressed central defenders or lining up on the edges of our area both centrally and out towards the flanks.

I'd like to say this is the sum of our problems but it's not. It's just the start.

If I were a coach producing what I saw out there today and what I've seen far to often this season so far I'd voluntarily get my coat and give someone else a chance.

Losing is bad enough ... but hardly ever scoring or having a shot on target is unforgivable as is the lack of support for the player on the ball, the lack of movement, accuracy and imagination is dangerous places, the failure to pressure, the bland thoughtless approach we have to corners and free-kicks (do we even have a free-kick specialist in the club) and the space we give people in places when they should never have a moment's peace?

Put simply our owners are getting shafted and they don't deserve it.

2-0 down and we were still knocking the ball long to one striker lol

And Morgan and Huth were doing their damn hardest to give the game to Southampton,we were nothing but shocking, I had high hopes coming into this game following a few Decent performances earlier but was surely Disappointed as fook 20min in it looked as if they didn't give a flying fook about the game !

Buck up your ideas Leicester before you completely fook up the season !!

Having watched the game in the flesh (although it felt like St Mary's Cemetery), largely squinting into the sunshine, I just wondered whether it came across even worse on telly.  What were the pundits making of it?  Who did they identify as our strongest and weakest players?

In my view, literally not one of them played average or better.  It ranged from poor to disastrous.

I fear there's some serious shit going on in the dressing room, because the absent team spirit is palpable.

None of the former, lots of the latter.

Gray got a few positive comments early in the game but that was it. Pundits all talked about lack of effort and desire, and essentially suggested they all think they're better than they are after last year.

Why CR won't bench some of these players I don't know!! Clearly we don't have back up in certain areas but not all of them. Drinkwater, Okazaki, Fuchs can all be left out and there are replacements available. Mendy, Ndidi need playing time to adapt. We need a replacement CB to give Morgan a rest and some competition if a rest isn't it.

I'd hate to see CR go after last year but I think we need to see a ruthless streak appear, and stop persisting with players based on performances not seen for 6 months.

i agree and weve been like it most of the season. i said at watford away i cant see where our next win is coming from. i along with many others have no idea what is wrong but it needs sorting asap. yes kante was a massive loss but there is more than that. how can a team which played with so much passion and togetherness last season go to what we are this season. players are constantly having a go at each other etc. we very rarely win the second ball, we cant string 2 passes together and the players dont seem to want to go into tackles. kasper shiuld be made captain,we need at least 1 CB because morgan is woeful but my worry is that whoever we bring in will almost be brought down to our current level which i hate to say. i am not sure if its happened yet but i think the owners, the coaching staff and the players need to sit down and have a crisis meeting to air any issues that they have with each other. people blame the new contracts and bmw's etc but it isnt that, when you ar paid 60-70 grand a week and get a 20-30 grand rise then that is nothing in relative terms. i am deeply worried at the minute that we will get relegated and then the team ripped apart and will not return!

If a neutral switched the game on at any point, the thought of 'who's been sent off for Leicester?' would definitely have been there.

Southampton had so much space all of the time in the middle, at the back, out wide and in our box, it really did feel like we were a man (or two) down.

At the beginning of the season the excuse was that we were losing to all of the top teams.  Then it became about the Kante replacement (Mendy) not being fully fit.  What's the excuse now?

How they could just waltz through our midfield today when we supposedly had 3 DM's in there is beyond me.

Watching the game today confirmed what I already thought and that is that the manager has lost the players.  Countless times the camera panned to him on the touchline to see him barking out orders only to then throw his head back and let out a groan of frustration.

Throughout the game, Fuchs, Huth, Drinkwater, Simpson, Morgan, Gray and Vardy all displayed obvious signs of frustration, dissatisfaction and dissent for what they were supposed to be doing.

The players have a degree of responsibility for what we're seeing but they cant be sacked and they sure as hell cant all be sold.

Its awful to say as he gave us the greatest season we'll ever know but if Ranieri stays in charge, we will be relegated.  For some, that doesnt seem to really cause an issue as last seasons highs would still outweigh that kind of low.  Personally, I would hate it and would rather a change be made to try and turn this around rather than sleepwalking into the bottom 3 using last year and the CL to justify it.

Having not been able to see anything of the match today....

was there any positives at all?

how did Vardy play?

what do people make of Benny being on the bench? (I guess this means he is now Premier league registered?)

Not really. Gray provided a few good runs.

Looks a shell of his former self. Tried harder than usual but a toddler would have been able to defend against him today.

Not sure.
