But generally I'm less bothered about signings than about the attitude now. The squad is capable of staying up. The mentality isn't. We're only desperate for signings because a) everyone is playing far worse than last season and b) all of our summer signings were garbage. I'm sure we will sign a centre back. Other than that, yes I can think of several positions we should be strengthening, but I can't see why we'd need to to stay up. I'm afraid it's too late for us to hope for anything better now. The club that we supported last season is long gone.

I would take Sakho over no one at all. Suprised if he doesnt find a club by the end of the window. Could still be us. Zouma and Smalling both a stretch too far for us I think, mainly because both will not be allowed to leave on loan I suspect. Scott Dann starts every week for Palace and Big Sam is adding, not selling, so can't see that happening. I would say Ramirez is on the same level as Bojan in terms of reputation and quality btw. Sakho is the only realistic option there and most would be very unhappy with it. I think it just shows how difficult the January window is, especially to sign players already at Premier League clubs.

Bojan isn't even starting or wanted by Stoke and their fans seem to think he has not been the same since his bad injury. Both seem to have very similar records and Ramirez is known for working hard and defending from the front, as well as being more physical than Bojan, which I think is real positive for us.

The back four have been terrible and we are crying out for another CB and a RB, especially now Hernandez has gone. I don't like the idea of Amartey having to play RB. Cover as CB maybe but would much prefer it if we brought in a genuine RB and CB. Seems to be that the recruitment policy at the moment is to target one player (Acerbi) for a position and if you don't get him, you just make do. Same happened in the summer with Silva, where we should have had other targets to go after and not be left with no one at all. Ramirez, a CB and a RB, even if both only on loan, would surely be a big boost for us.

He has had some good games for Stoke, but more often than not, he has struggled to make an impact. Stoke are hardly a high flying team either, so if he can't get a game there and they are happy for him to leave, then he is not really the top player that some are describing him to be. He would be a useful addition, but I actually prefer the idea of Ramirez here, due to him being more physical and known for working hard for the team.
