Did you see Liverpool v Wolves?

I compared that game with Derby v LCFC.

The two striking differences

1) The intensity of play

2) Pace of the match

Observation:

LCFC intensity and pace both slower than Wolves.

I am beginning to wonder if the money has ruined some of our players...

Absolutely, thats what they reminded me of. YSouness replicate that season on season, and I'm unsure if we tried to go back to the tried and tested method of last year that Mr Souness suggests, that it would work.

Think this is a bit unfair. Wolves playing with a high intensity against Liverpool is the same as us playing at a high intensity against Porto, Copenhagen or Brugge, which we did. Wolves are 18th in the league, similar situation to us really.

Yes of course. Got everything they want now.

Go into a supermarket and see Vardy and his wife on the cover of something like Closer.  Good grief.

Wolves played with the passion and spirit that we had last year, great result for them. Hope to be playing them in the final to get revenge for the 1949 3-2 loss (I'd have been 1 year old then, so no memories of it (other than what me dad told me).

Or the incredibly outrageous 4-3 league win against us in 2003, after we were 3-0 up at half-time. Completely fell apart in the second half at Molineux back then.

I remember listening to that on the radio, buggered off out at 2-3 for a walk round the village, came back just in time to hear the winner go in. Absolutely gutted!

We conceded so many last minute goals to lose or draw games in that season it was unreal.

Off the top of my head, we threw leads away in:

Southampton 2-2: 2 up at half time on the opening day. Set the tone, really.

Wolves 4-3: madness.

Boro 3-3: 3-1 up going into stoppage time- almost as ridiculous as the Wolves capitulation.

Spurs 4-4: fought back from 3-1 down to 4-3 up, then conceded a last minute equaliser due to a mis-hit Davidson clearance.

Charlton 1-1: late penalty following a Di Canio dive. Not a lot we could have done really.

I'm sure there were more than that though? If we could have held onto those we would have stayed up comfortably.

Factor in other horror shows such as the drubbing by Villa and Walker rolling over the ball against Bolton, and there were so many results which were difficult to take that season. Shame really, as we scored for fun at times.

Ditto Spurs game home 1-2, Everton away 2-2.

Surprising given all the geriatric's in the side we didn't have the mental strength to see out games.

It's easier to raise your game against a big club. Wolves obviously don't produce this every week as they are 18th in the Championship.

I'm sure we could compare our match v Man City against many of their league games and we'd come out favourably.

Got a few friends that are staunch Wolves fans and jokedbif we beat Derby what's the betting we get Wolves in the next round ?

To one of of them cheeky bugger replied hope so that will be an easy game for us how your lot are playing lately!

If we had signed 1 decent centre back in his prime, we would have probably been a good side.

Interesting that @Blizzard should point this out. The other week I watched Arsenal vs Burnley and it was quite visible to see the difference in intensity that Burnley had compared to us.

It's true we're lacking some intensity going forward but if it were us playing that second goal would never have happened. Liverpool would never have left themselves that open if we were the opposition. We command more respect from teams this season than last

I don't know how true it is but I remember hearing that if games were 80 minutes long that season, we'd have ended up in the UEFA Cup places.

Smaller clubs will always play with more hunger and determination especially when they can see bigger clubs not taking the competition seriously .

The comparison is surely wrong...

I expected when picking up this post, how a top talented team a pundits darling, lost twice

to lower opposition, in 2 different cup competitions...Liverpool.!!

Then I see posts talking about Wolves....strange.!!

I've heard that but a quick flick through and I'd make it 40 points we'd have picked up. Net loss of 7 points from late goals. So, maybe just staying up.

I just find it very disappointing that some so called big clubs do appear to disregard the FA Cup as no longer a prestigious trophy ... but then again, Gods teeth if it is such an inconsequential cup surely we'd have won it years ago!!!

But then you've got to subtract points from those teams that took them from us, and other games ending at 80 minutes.
