Claudio to move 'upstairs' ?

Recommended Posts

I think the most realistic option for the owners now, is to move Claudio 'upstairs' - to a Directorship of some sorts - and bring in a Team Manager / Coach ?  It would satisfy the 'Thai sense of honour' and reward him for what he did last year, but also (and more importantly) SAVE OUR SEASON !

I for one would welcome this - and be interested to see if many on here agree.

If it were to happen, for me the man to bring in as Team Manager (if he would come - big IF !), would be Roberto Mancini.  He's available, claims to always be a bit of a City fan (after we introduced him to English football) and has the Italian (and Inter Milan) connections, to aid a working relationship with CR.

He will never ever move upstairs. He's a football manager.

It's not like they've never sacked a manager before.

I don't see the point. You can still respect the man and laud his achievement from last season even if you let him go.

Someone's already mentioned Dignitas! I don't wish that on him, but with his having singularly failed to take us forward from the position of a lifetime, I can't imagine why any fan or any manager would want him directing our football.

Where's the argument for it?

We're sinking fast as a team. We've wasted millions on sub-standard players, we're not scoring through our established players or our new ones, various positions acknowledged as "weak" for months have not been strengthened, the once incomparable spirit and atmosphere at the club has evaporated, our feeder teams are underperforming, we're developing far too little through our Academy so what is it exactly that qualifies Ranieri for such a vital and influential appointment?

Why would you move him upstairs when he is clearly not good enough to do the proper job. We'd be paying him a salary to do **** all. Which isn't far from what he does at the moment. He needs to be rid of our club end of.

Claudio needs help!  Watching his body language showed that he was as helpless as us fans and he's the manager who spends every day with these players getting them prepared.

can we bring someone in to coach the players and inspire them just until the end of the season.

sureley there has to be someone out there.

can we drag the likes of Matty Elliot and walshy in to oversea team talks and give the players some hard words of advice.  Time to use every trick in the freakin book because we are fast sinking in the sand.

What would he do?

Needs getting rid of altogether not making a job up for him.

This.

Giving him a job "upstairs" is just ticking a box.

He has to go, and completely.

Move him upstairs? Some of you are completely delusional. If he's sacked he will be offered a job again at another football club and would not need to be 'offered' an executive position "upstairs". The reason why he was offered such a lucrative contract at the end of last season was because he could have quite easily walked into any job he wanted somewhere else. I am as unhappy as everyone else about the slump in form and the prospect of relegation but that's down to a number of different reasons, not just the manager. Everything he did last season turned to gold. He could do nothing wrong. This season is the opposite. Essentially, he is an old school Italian coach who prioritises defensive solidity over attacking flair. Last year we won games with very little possession and goal threats, but we took our chances ruthlessly and defended solidly. When that was happening did we care about the style of football? Hell no. This year we have created fewer chances and leaked a lot more goals but the style of football isn't that different: we're still set up as a counter-attacking team. But now we are boring and shit to watch. The main difference is that our players are not as good as they were last year. It's that simple. They peaked last year but this season they are on the slide. Huth, Morgan, Vardy, Mahrez, Fuchs and Drinkwater had the season of their lives but are at nowhere near the same level this season. And we lost Kante. A huge gaping loss which for a small team like ours was always going to be impossible to fill, no matter who we bought. A lot of games last year were won by very fine margins (Spurs 1-0 away being the best and most important example). This year we have lost some games narrowly. And with each defeat, confidence has been eroded. (The opposite of last year, where with each victory, confidence grew.) Many of the fickle fans posting here claim that Ranieri was lucky last year and has been found out this year are wrong. He was the one who moved Vardy to a more central position. He was the one who played Kante (who no one had ever heard of) from the sixth game onwards. Only Ranieri could have won the league last season. But I also accept that the way he approaches games tactically means that we could just as easily go down. To the wider footballing world, what he achieved was miraculous. But to some of you posting here, you make it seem as if winning the league was a natural progression from the season before! So please, before you vent, put things into perspective.

Let's be honest though, will anyone actually listen to him?

A new manager will want to be his own boss and have his own ideas and ways of thinking.

I'm sure he doesn't want to have to hear Claudio's "fight" and "warrior" speeches every week.

And what value does he bring to the boardroom? It's very different from being on the training ground
