What does Gray have to do?

He needs to be in the team now. Think we should play with 6 back and four forward to give us done attacking options and cover the centre of defence.

Amartey and ndidi holding midfield and drinky pushing on as he's class going forward. Mahrez and gray on the wings.

He needs to work a lot harder when we have not got the ball and track back with his man but the same goes for Mahrez and Musa, I really feel sorry for Simpson because whoever plays in front of them never tracks back.

seem to me, that they got it spot on, playing from the bench best way to play him , he still young and plenty of time ahead of him to be starting games, seems to me when he does start he isn't as good.

You saw how incoherent and lost the attack was without Gray. You also saw how much he changed the game when he hit the pitch. Wouldn't you rather have two halves of scoring opportunities rather than 35 minutes? Gray can attack that way the entire game, much rather have him on the entire time so that we aren't always playing from behind.

People loving workhorses. That's why nothing was won since 1966.

Gray changes whole complexion of the team going forward when he's on, but it's a massive risk defensively starting with both him and mahrez. Tho musa not exactly great defensively either. Shinji would have been better starting last night imo

I don't see it as a risk playing Gray and Mahrez at the same time attacking. We literally do not have an attack. Our defence is dogshit anyway and is always going to concede goals so we may as well try playing more top-heavy and actually creating some sort of attacking threat. Can't get any worse.

He's a showboater who, for all his skill, provides little end product. We were shite against Southampton but what a different game it might have been if at 0-0 Gray had opted to clip the ball to Vardy in 10 yards of space at the back post instead of blasting over the bar. It doesn't matter if one in twenty goes in, or his runs make the highlights reel, when we've got one of the league's deadliest strikers screaming for it at the back post, and he can't or won't play one of the simplest, most obvious passes in football, which I'd bargain Vardy will score most times. In fact I feel sorry for Vardy this season, mostly due to the fact that he simply hasn't been given the ball. There's not a lot he can do in this situation, unless he's expected to pick the ball up in his own box and run the length of the pitch. Something Gray, funnily enough, could do, but would be unlikely to score when he got to the other end.

EDIT: I realise he's only 19, but passes like that ought to be instinctive by the time you're twelve.

Good player... who could be a brilliant one if he learns to use his left foot..defenders know he is going to cut inside onto his right foot and block him off ..whereas Mahrez does occasionally go onto his right.. nb last seasons goal v. Man city, puts doubt in the defenders minds

needs to think a bit more, he ran straight into a player last night....He needs to have a plan when on the ball.

Gray is ok when teams aren't sat deep and he has space to work with. I think he'd do well against Liverpool but poor against Hull, simply because Liverpool will give us space whereas Hull will be compact.

He was terrible tonight, completely ineffective and out of his depth attacking and barely involved defensively.

Gray offers so much more. sure he doesn't defend as well, but you have so much less defending to do when you have decent wingers who can move the team forward.

Seriously, what was the point of selling Schlupp and playing Musa in his place?

Nobody was offering us money for Musa....

He needs to keep his head down and keep working hard. He's got a great amount of talent but he is still inconsistent and his final product often isn't there. He is slowly becoming an integral part of the team and has had a lot of minutes recently.

I too was surprised he didn't start last night but theres still alot he needs to work on. His defensive side to his game especially isn't always up to scratch and may well be why he didn't start last nights game.

I agree a winger should help out their full back. The problem is, we expect them to do it all game with no support coming the other way. What's the point in having quality attacking players if their main role in the team is to be a second full back?

Ranieri is far too defensively minded to set out our team to attack  and press high. If we actually attacked other teams then we wouldn't have to spend so much time worrying about Gray and Mahrez marking a full back on the edge of their own box.

Away tie in the last 16 of the Champions League - I think we would go defensive no matter who the manager was.
