What does Gray have to do?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if there is already a similar topic (feel free to move this if there is) but what does Gray have to do to start. With the exception of Kasper, he has been our best player this season. Always looks threatening and we always look like having a chance of scoring when he's on the field. I cannot understand why Musa and even Albrighton/Mahrez are ahead of him in the team.

It does make me wonder about his attitude/ training. It can be the only thing why he's not the 2nd name on the team sheet every week. Either that or Claudio really has totally lost the plot. We looked much better tonight when he came on. Musa was terrible tonight and has been for most of the season with the exception of Everton and a few other glimpses he's shown.

As much as we have all slated the players this season for poor perfomances/lack of effort and passion etc, Claudio''s team selections and tactics have been the main reason why we have struggled so badly this season.

He came on second half with something to prove and had a decent impact. Maybe that's good management?

A few of the games he has started this season though, he's played down the middle with Vardy. Doesn't matter how good you are, when you have 2 strikers under 6ft having long balls knocked to them, up against over 6ft centre backs they are not going to do much. He needs a good run in the team playing his natural position on the wing. And to say putting him on today was good management is giving Claudio way too much credit! Everyone could see that Musa was poor and that we had a quality replacement on the bench. Doesn't take a top manager to see that

Hope he's around next season

My worry is that he won't be. He's only 20 and has so much potential but I think could all understand if he wanted to leave when he's being benched for the likes of Musa. There will be many teams wanting to sign him in the summer

He should start. He looks dangerous no matter who we play against.

Musa was awful tonight and should get no where near that starting 11

You're entitled to your opinion.

Good management is not just the substitutions you make but also the team you put out. We've seen Claudio get it wrong many many times. How many times have we looked terrible in the first half and go down a goal or two before he's made changes.  We've been better after a substitution than we were before the started many times this season. He needs to do a better job picking the XI. A goal is huge in this game. When we constantly give up the first goal, we're going to lose most of our games. That has nothing to do with substitutions.

put laxative in Albrighton's mince pie

He was terrible tonight, completely ineffective and out of his depth attacking and barely involved defensively.

Gray offers so much more. sure he doesn't defend as well, but you have so much less defending to do when you have decent wingers who can move the team forward.

Seriously, what was the point of selling Schlupp and playing Musa in his place?

Tactically, we are all over the place. We have a poor set up and will have to be settle with be reactive, rather than proactive until the summer/next season. The thought process behind Gray's exclusion, I think, is because Albrighton tracks more. However, apart from past champions league experience, I can't understand why Musa started. To bring Gray on, shows that reactive nature. By giving Sevilla something to think about at the other end, it took the pressure off our defence. We looked more a unit. A threat and better all round team.

I actually think Gray is better off the bench than starting at the top level. Although he's miles better than Musa who is dog shit.

Helped change the game tonight

I agree that he's better of the bench, but even so I still think he should be starting over Musa.

Amartey should've started and us played a 451 variation with Amartey & Ndidi protecting defence & Drinkwater getting forward

Gray is much better off the bench

You have to be able to change things off the bench

But why Huth is in over Benalouane is beyond me

Nailed it.

Our best outfield player this season (not saying much, but it's true). He's selfish, often makes the wrong decision and looks like he has an inflated ego. But I'll tell you what, he's made a huge difference when he's come on looking like one of our only players that can hurt the opposition.

We are going to have to play to win against Hull, Crystal Palance and Sunderland. That means we need Gray.

We don't have to sell him though, he's on a long contract. Time to get tough with some of the wannabe butterflies.

He needs to look up and make better decisions, but that will come with experience. He's still far better then Musa or Albrighton and should be ahead of both.

Shockingly bad decision not to start with him and I don't say that with the benefit of hindsight. When he's been given the opportunity, more often than not, he's looked good among some utter dross around him this season.

seem to me, that they got it spot on, playing from the bench best way to play him , he still young and plenty of time ahead of him to be starting games, seems to me when he does start he isn't as good.

To start, he needs to be a shit, inconsistent liability. Then Ranieri will be all over him.

He will also be in the England first team
